Chapter 169: Irreversible
Chapter 169: Irreversible
Lilac’s P.O.V
"Why?" I asked.
"Lilac," Silver's voice quivered, her eyes shimmering with a strange blend of sorrow and determination. "I delved too deeply into dark magic. To raise those wraiths, to erase your pack from existence... I relied on powers I shouldn't have and now that they're gone, the magic I used, it's consuming me from within. It's irreversible."
My eyes widened in shock and disbelief, my breath catching in my throat as I listened intently, the weight of Silver's words settling upon me like an ominous cloud.
I glanced at Krimson and one look at him told me that we were both thinking the same thing, there was no way to save her.
"No, Silver, there must be a way to undo this. We can find a solution together." I said, trying desperately to reach for the woman who I had considered my friend.
Silver's expression softened, a bittersweet smile playing on her lips, one that told me that she had completely given up.
"I wish it were that simple, Lilac but this darkness, it's grown too strong within me. I can feel it tearing me apart, piece by piece. I won't let it consume me entirely."
Tears welled up in my eyes as Silver's words sank in. This was the end, the grim finality that told me that nothing else could be repaired.
"Please, don't do anything rash. There has to be another way. We can seek help, find someone who knows how to—"
"I can't let it happen," Silver interrupted, her gaze steady yet filled with an unfathomable resolve. "I won't let myself become a vessel of darkness, wreaking havoc upon everything I hold dear."
Before I could react, Silver's hand moved swiftly to grasp the dagger at her feet, the one Krimson had dropped. Gasps echoed around the chamber as Silver raised the blade, a hauntingly calm expression on her face.
"No, Silver, please!" My voice trembled with desperation, but Silver's resolve seemed unshakable.
With a swift, heartbreaking motion, Silver plunged the dagger into her own heart, a sudden hush falling over the room. My cry of anguish mixed with the stunned silence of those gathered around as they witnessed the unthinkable act unfold before them.
Silver's body slumped to the ground, her life slipping away in a poignant sacrifice that left a profound sense of loss hanging heavy in the air. Shock and sorrow gripped my heart as I knelt beside my fallen friend, feeling the weight of Silver's sacrifice settle upon my shoulders.
She lay there, her breaths shallow, eyes dimming yet radiating an odd sense of peace. Krimson was beside me, his expression a blend of sorrow and acceptance, silently acknowledging Silver's farewell.
"I'm sorry, Lilac. Krimson," Silver's voice quivered weakly. "I wish I could have done more, been more."
Krimson kneeled closer, his hand gently touching Silver's trembling one. "In your next life, I hope you are able to live life the way you always wanted…with your loving family by your side."
Tears blurred my vision as I watched this bittersweet exchange, feeling a profound ache for Silver's suffering and the looming loss.
Silver's breaths grew labored, her gaze flickering between us. "I hope… in this life, you both… find your happy ending." Her words hung in the air, heavy with unspoken longing and regret.
Suddenly, a surge of dark energy rippled through the room, crackling like lightning. We all felt it, the ominous presence stirring within Silver, seeking escape. Panic rose within me as we realized the danger.
"We have to get out of here, now!" Krimson's urgent voice sliced through the tension, his arm wrapping around me, pulling me away from Silver's fading form.
Together, we staggered towards the door, the weight of impending doom pressing down upon us. The air crackled with malevolent power, and as we reached the threshold, the cottage erupted into a chaotic symphony of destruction. Flames roared, wood splintered, and debris flew in all directions, propelled by the unleashed darkness.
The force of the explosion knocked us off our feet, the sheer impact sending shockwaves through the ground. I clung to Krimson, shielding my face as debris scattered around us. In that moment of chaos, the cottage collapsed into a vortex of swirling energy, unable to contain the unleashed power.
As the cacophony of destruction faded, the realization hit me like a heavy blow—Silver was gone. The cottage lay in ruins, consumed by the unleashed darkness that had finally found its freedom.
Panting, disoriented, we turned to look back, a mixture of relief and sorrow washing over us but our respite was short-lived. My heart clenched as I saw Krimson stumble, blood staining his clothes, his hand pressing against the wound on his chest.
"Krimson!" My voice cracked with fear and desperation as I tried to reach for him.
With a gasp, Krimson collapsed, unconsciously claiming him. Dread coiled in my stomach, a deep ache of loss mingling with the fear that this might be the end for him.
