Chapter 160: Harvesting Part 1
Chapter 160: Harvesting Part 1
Krimson’s P.O.V
The night hung heavy around us as we tore through the city streets, the engine's roar mingling with the howling wind. Del and I were on a mission—racing against time to reach Silver's apartment. It was imperative that we find Lilac before anything sinister unfolded.
"Alpha Krimson, step on it!" Del's voice cut through the adrenaline-charged air, urgency lacing every word. His grip tightened on the door handle as we swerved through the dimly lit alleys, the neon signs blurring into streaks of color.
"I'm pushing it as hard as I can!" I shouted back, my eyes fixed on the road ahead. The weight of worry pressed on me like a leaden cloak. We had to reach Silver's place, and had to find Lilac safe and sound.
Finally, screeching to a halt outside Silver's building, we leaped out of the car. Breathless and tense, we dashed up the stairs, each step echoing the pounding of our hearts. As we reached Silver's door, our hopes soared, but a hollow silence greeted us instead of Lilac's laughter.
"No... this can't be happening," Del muttered, his voice tinged with disbelief as he rattled the doorknob in vain. With a shared glance, we knew there was no choice—we had to get inside.
I readied myself, my heart hammering in my chest, and with a swift, forceful kick, the door burst open. The apartment laid still beyond, shadows dancing in the scant moonlight filtering through the windows. It felt eerie, too quiet for the bustling place it usually was.
"Where is everyone?" Del's voice trembled slightly, a mixture of fear and determination.
I could scent Lilac’s unique perfume inside this room, and it had been recent. So it gave me a glimmer of hope that at the very least, we were at the right place and not wasting our time chasing useless trails.
We began our search, combing through the rooms, calling out Lilac's name, hoping for an answer that never came. The apartment seemed devoid of life, almost like a deserted stage set for a play that had ended abruptly.
Then, in the living room, our eyes fell upon a lone empty cup resting on the glass table—a tiny beacon in the otherwise vacant room. It was a small detail, yet it sparked a surge of questions and worries. What had happened here? Where were Lilac and Silver?
I picked up the cup, a thousand thoughts racing through my mind. "Del, this cup... it's recent. Someone was here."
Del's brows furrowed in concern. "But why leave in such a hurry? And where could they have gone in the middle of the bloody night?"
We exchanged a glance, our concern deepening. It was a puzzle, a maze of uncertainties, but one thing was clear—we needed to find Lilac, to trace her steps, follow any lead, no matter how faint. Time wasn’t on our side, but we weren’t giving up, not until we had answers.
I cautiously picked up the cup, the scent wafting from it unfamiliar yet strangely potent. As I took a whiff, a sharp chemical tang hit my senses, immediately alerting me to something amiss. "Something's off about this," I muttered, holding the cup up for Del to inspect.
Del leaned in, his brow furrowing as he caught a whiff of the contents. "What is that smell?"
"Sleeping drugs," I confirmed, my mind racing as I connected the dots. "Lilac didn't just leave this behind. Someone lured her, drugged her."
"Drugged her? But why?" Del's concern deepened, his eyes flickering with worry. "Where is she now? And where on earth is Silver?!"
"That's what we need to find out," I replied, setting the cup down carefully. "Someone took her, Del. And it couldn’t be anyone other than Silver Moon."
Del's fists clenched at his sides. "Why would she do such a thing to Lilac? What has she ever done to anyone?"
"It's not Lilac they're after," I explained, trying to piece together the puzzle. "It's her father. Silver’s entire pack had been slaughtered by the Dawn Wood…and now, she wants Lilac to pay for her father’s sins."
"Why would Silver go after Lilac for her father's deeds?" Del's confusion mirrored my own. “Isn't her father already dead?”
"It's a twisted way to make someone pay," I said, frustration simmering beneath the surface. "Silver's not one to play fair, especially when it comes to settling scores."
Del paced the room, his agitation palpable. "We have to do something, Alpha Krimson. Lilac doesn't deserve any of this."
"We will," I assured him, determination solidifying in my tone. "But we need a plan. Silver's cunning, and we can't rush into this blindly. We also need to find out exactly where she is holding Lilac."
Del stopped, turning to me with a resolute expression. "What's our move then?"
"We start by figuring out where they've taken her," I said, looking around the room to find any clues about any place that Silver might frequent. "Then, we find a way to confront Silver without putting Lilac in even more danger."
As we delved deeper into our strategy, the urgency of the situation weighed heavily on us. Lilac's safety depended on our next steps, and unraveling the tangled web that Silver had spun around her would take everything we had.
As the fire crackled in the hearth, casting dancing shadows across the room, I found myself recounting a tale to Del, one that had long been buried within the depths of my memories.
