Chapter 158: Not What She Seems Part 2
Chapter 158: Not What She Seems Part 2
Krimson’s P.O.V
His eyes widened in surprise, his shoulders dropping in defeat as he looked at me helplessly.
"Right. Of course," he managed to mutter, his voice barely above a whisper.
“Tell me, boy, do you know where Lilac is?” I asked again, urgency coloring my words. “She hasn’t been home yet and I need to know if she is safe!”
“Like you said, Lilac is no longer mine to look after, Alpha Krimson.” Del snapped at me, almost in a mocking tone. “Shouldn’t you be more aware of where your mate is? Shouldn’t you be using your mating bond to find out her location instead of going from door to door in the middle of the night?”
Lilac was missing, and every second felt crucial in finding her. So when Del tried to poke fun at me, I just couldn't entertain it.
“I didn't have the time for those jabs right now, boy.” I spat at him. “Not when Lilac might be out there, who knows where, needing my help!”
I could see the shift in Del's expression, the way his playful demeanor quickly turned to concern as I mentioned Lilac's disappearance. He knew her well, perhaps even better than I did.
Del's worry mirrored my own as he asked which of her friends I had already checked with or where I had looked. It was a good question, one I wish I had a more reassuring answer to. I shared with him that I had started with her dorm. It was the first place that made sense, the first place she'd usually be, but she wasn't there.
The weight of the situation seemed to grow heavier with each passing moment. Lilac wasn't the type to vanish without a trace. She was dependable, always letting someone know where she was or what she was up to. The fact that she wasn't where she was expected to be raised alarm bells in both Del and me.
The sense of urgency became palpable between us. We both knew we needed to act fast, to cover as much ground as possible, to reach out to anyone who might have a clue about her whereabouts. Del and I exchanged a glance, a silent acknowledgment of the gravity of the situation. Lilac's safety was paramount, and we were ready to do whatever it took to find her.
“What about Silver?” Del said suddenly, making my attention snap to him. “Have you checked with her yet?”
“Silver?” I frowned, not recalling that name in my memories.
“Silvia Moon…the woman who used to be the previous Alpha of the Secret Circle before Lilac showed up?”
"Wait, since when are they friends?" I asked, my eyebrows furrowing in surprise. Del had this knack for dropping bombshells in the middle of a conversation, and this was no exception.
"Since Lilac joined the Secret Circle," Del replied casually, as though it was the most normal thing in the world.
My mind raced to process this new information. I leaned in closer, trying to make sure if I had heard him right. "Silver…she used to be the leader of the wolves?"
Del nodded, his frown deepening. "Yeah, she's got this aura about her, a commanding presence. It's no wonder she's at the helm of her pack."
My heart raced as an ominous feeling settled in the pit of my stomach. It was that inexplicable sense of unease, the kind that creeps up on you when something feels incredibly wrong. The hairs on the back of my neck stood on end, and a knot formed in my chest. I knew, instinctively, that something was amiss, something beyond our understanding.
Turning to Del, my voice edged with urgency, I implored him, "Del, we need to go to Silver's house—right now." The gravity in my tone betrayed the urgency I felt. Every passing moment felt like a brick added to the weight of impending dread.
But Del wasn’t done with his questions. "What's going on, Alpha Krimson? Why this sudden urgency?"
I hesitated, grappling with how to articulate the inexplicable suspicion gnawing at me. "It's about Silver," I began, my words cautious but determined. "She's not what she appears to be. She's not just a wolf, Del. She’s part witch as well, and she is far older and stronger than any of the students here."
Del's expression shifted from curiosity to concern, mirroring the intensity of my own apprehension. "A witch? Older than Lilac?" His voice wavered slightly, betraying his disbelief mingled with the realization that our world might be far more complex than we'd ever comprehended.
I nodded, my jaw set with determination. "I don’t have time to explain. Show me to her house, now! Or it would be too late to save Lilac!"
The urgency in my voice seemed to resonate with Del, and without further hesitation, we made our way swiftly toward Silver's dwelling.
The truth awaited us behind her door, and I braced myself for the revelation that could potentially upend everything we thought we knew about our pack, about Silver, and about the intricate tapestry of our supernatural world.
