Chapter 194 The Preservation Alliance's Final Move
Chapter 194 The Preservation Alliance's Final Move
DAMON’S POV
I thought we'd won. Project Nightshade subjects were saved. Treatment was successful. And alliance attack in Canada was repelled. Our security had ben tightened.
But I was wrong.
The attacks came simultaneously across five territories. Blackwood's pack in the Pacific Northwest, was bombed at their primary meeting hall during a Council gathering. Twelve dead, thirty wounded.
Chen's territory in the Great Lakes suffered a coordinated assault on a progressive coalition meeting. Eight dead, leadership decimated.
Victoria Stone's mountain pack, assassination of her Beta and three senior warriors. The strikes crippled their command structure.
Two more progressive packs hit within the same hour. Different methods but same message.
“As long as you rule, we wage war.”
Intelligence reports flooded in. Marcus worked responses from the war room, his face grim.
"This is everything they have left," he said, analyzing attack patterns. "The Alliance is committing all remaining resources. Every operative, every weapon, every wolf willing to die for their cause."
"Why?" I demanded. "They're already beaten. We've destroyed their facilities, captured their leaders…"
"Because they know it's over if they don't act now," Lena interrupted, joining us. "The constitutional government is stable. Phantom acceptance is growing. They're losing the ideological war. This is desperation."
I mobilized response teams immediately.
Medical support to Blackwood's territory. Security reinforcements to Chen. Investigation teams to Stone's pack.
But we were stretched thin. Five simultaneous crises across the continent.
Ivy appeared in the war room, understanding the situation instantly.
"They want us scattered," she said. "Responding to five attacks means we can't defend properly against the sixth."
Our eyes met across the room.
“This is a distraction,” my wolf said with sudden clarity.
"The real attack is coming here," I said aloud.
"Crescent City," Ivy confirmed. "They hit our allies to pull our forces away, then strike at the capital with everything they have left."
Marcus verified within minutes.
Border scouts reported movement. Large force, three hundred wolves minimum, advancing on Crescent City from multiple directions.
The Preservation Alliance's main army. Guess they really are staging their final play.
"They're betting everything on this," Marcus said. "If they fail, the Alliance is finished. No leadership, no resources, no support base."
"Then we make sure they fail," I said.
We had maybe six hours before they arrived. I recalled every available warrior from the outlying territories. Reinforced defensive positions, and worked with allied packs who could send support quickly.
The twins were secured in the most protected section of the palace. Elena, Maya, Lucas, Kira, and Adam with them, all non-combatants in one location under heavy guard. Phantom warriors took strategic positions. Regular wolves manned the walls. Rogues who'd found home here prepared to defend it.
Everyone knew this was it. The final battle.
As sunset approached, I stood on the battlements watching the Alliance army appear on the horizon. Three hundred wolves, maybe more. They weren’t using subtlety or tactics, just overwhelming force. And it was clear that they were willing to die to eliminate the Phantom Queen and her family.
“Fanatics,” my wolf observed. “The most dangerous kind.”
Ivy joined me.
"This is their last stand," I said. "They're going all-in because they know if they fail here, it's over."
"Then we don't let them fail on their terms," Ivy said. "We end this decisively. Show everyone watching that fear doesn't win."
She called our defenders together, warriors from every faction who'd answered the call. Rogues, pack wolves, and phantoms. Everyone was united in ways the Alliance would never understand.
"The Alliance thinks fear will win," Ivy said, her voice carrying across the assembled forces. "That if they kill enough of us, we'll surrender."
She paused, meeting eyes throughout the crowd.
"But we've survived worse. We've survived betrayal, conspiracies, sieges, and wars. And we're still here."
Howls erupted. Agreement, defiance, determination.
"We're not just defending a city," Ivy continued. "We're defending the idea that outcasts deserve belonging. That Phantoms deserve to exist. That power doesn't have to mean tyranny."
More howls. Louder this time.
"They can bring three hundred wolves. We'll stand with three hundred and one. They can bring weapons and hate. We'll bring unity and purpose."
The defenders were ready. Not just to fight, to win.
As night fell, the Alliance attacked.
The battle was fierce from the first moment. Alliance forces hit the walls from three directions simultaneously. But we'd learned from Storms's siege, from every battle we'd fought.
Phantom warriors disrupted their coordination with selective suppression. Ivy's abilities affecting key leaders, causing chaos in their ranks. Regular wolves held defensive positions with disciplined efficiency. Marcus's training showing in every of their movements. Rogues fought with desperate ferocity. Protecting the home they'd finally found.
The Alliance was fighting warriors. But we were fighting for something bigger.
“An idea,” my wolf said. “That's what Ivy meant. They can't kill ideas with violence.”
The first assault broke against our defenses within an hour. They retreated, regrouped, attacked again.
And broke again.
They were skilled, determined, willing to die. But they were divided by fear and hatred. We were united by hope and belonging. The difference showed.
By midnight, their forces were wavering. They leaders were falling disrupting their coordination. By two AM, they were retreating in disorder. By dawn, the Preservation Alliance was finished.
Their leaders were either captured or dead. Their remaining members scattered in full retreat across multiple territories.
The threat that had haunted us for years, gone.
I found Ivy in the aftermath, surveying damage to the outer wall. She was exhausted and blood-spattered.
We'd both survived. Our family survived. Our people survived.
"Is it over?" she asked quietly.
"The Alliance is finished," I confirmed. "Marcus has teams tracking scattered remnants, but they're not a threat anymore. No leadership, no coordination, no resources."
"So it's actually over."
"Yeah. It's over."
Ivy leaned against me, and we stood there watching the sun rise over Crescent City.
“Finally,” my wolf said with exhausted relief. “Finally done.”
"We need to help the injured," Ivy said after a moment. "Check on the twins. Contact our allies who got hit."
"I know."
"And then we need to sleep for about three days."
"That too."
But we didn't move yet. Just stood together, feeling the weight of battles finally ended.
The wars were over.
Now came the harder work, building peace.
