CHAPTER 90 — FIRE AND DESIRE

CHAPTER 90 — FIRE AND DESIRE
DAMIEN’S POV

We ran through the narrow streets of Milan’s historic center, the sound of sirens and gunfire echoing behind us as my father’s men gave chase.
Violet ran beside me, her hand tight in mine as she navigated the cobblestone streets.

“This way,” I said, pulling her down an alley that led to the riverfront. “We’ve got a boat hidden under the Ponte Vecchio, it’s our only chance to get out of the city before they seal all the exits.”

Donovan and Alistair ran ahead of us, clearing the way and keeping watch for pursuers. I could see the tension in their shoulders, the way they kept glancing back at Violet and me out of concern.

We reached the river just as my father’s men rounded the corner behind us. Donovan turned and fired three shots, taking out the streetlight above them and plunging the alley into darkness.
“Go!” he shouted. “Alistair and I will hold them off, get Violet to the boat now!”

I didn’t argue. I pulled Violet toward the dock where our speedboat was hidden under a tarp, cutting the ropes with my knife and pulling the cover off as she climbed aboard.
The engine roared to life on the first try, and I jumped in beside her, gunning the throttle as we shot out into the river.

Looking back, I could see Donovan and Alistair fighting their way through my father’s men, their movements are brutal and efficient as they made their way toward the dock.
“They’ll make it,” Violet said quietly, even though I could hear the doubt in her voice.

“I know they will,” I said, keeping my eyes on the river ahead as we raced toward the open sea.
“They’re my brothers, they’ve survived worse than this.”

We ran the boat hard through the night, the wind whipping Violet’s hair across her face as we left Milan behind us. When we finally reached the open Mediterranean, I slowed the engine and dropped anchor in a hidden cove where we’d stashed some supplies,  just in case something like this ever happened.

We sat in silence for a long time, watching the stars reflect off the water and listening to the gentle lapping of waves against the hull.
Violet curled up beside me, her head resting on my chest as I wrapped a blanket around us both.

“I can’t believe he’d do that,” she said quietly, her voice muffled against my shirt.
“Your own father, willing to kill you boys just to get what he wants.”

I pressed a kiss to the top of her head, my hand stroking her hair gently.
“He’s always been like that,” I admitted. “We just never wanted to see it. We always thought there was some good in him, some part of him that cared about us more than power.”

“And Laura?” she asked, looking up at me with tears in her eyes.
“She risked everything to save me, even though she hates me.”

“She doesn’t hate you,” I said gently. “She’s just hurt. But deep down, she’s still the same woman I know.”

Violet was quiet for a moment, then looked up at me with those dark eyes that had captured my hearts.
“What about you and your brothers?” she asked softly.
“What happens now? Your father will never stop looking for us, and the Gray Circle will be in chaos without anyone to lead it.”

I pulled her closer, my hand moving to cup her face in my palms. “What happens now is we take care of each other,” I said firmly.
“We’ll lay low for a while, gather our strength, and then we’ll come back and take back what’s ours, but not for power, or for control. It will be for the people who need someone to protect them from men like my father.”

She leaned up and kissed me, her lips soft against mine in the moonlight. The kiss started gentle, almost hesitant, but quickly deepened as the passion between us took over.
I pulled her onto my lap, her legs straddling mine as her hands tangled in my hair, pulling me closer.

“I want you,” she whispered against my lips. “I want you.” She repeated again.

I didn’t need to be told twice. I stood up, carrying her into the small cabin of the boat where I laid her down on the bed, my hands moving slowly to undress her as she did the same for me.
The air was cool against her warm skin, and I took my time, savoring every touch, every kiss and every sound she made.

I kissed my way down her body, taking my time to worship every inch of her as she arched her back and cried out my name.
When I finally entered her, she wrapped her legs around my waist, pulling me deep inside her as we moved together in a perfect rhythm.

The boat rocked gently beneath us, the sound of the waves mixing with our cries of pleasure as we lost ourselves in each other.
When we finally came together with her name on my lips and mine on hers, we collapsed against each other, breathless and sated.

I held her close, pressing kisses to her forehead as we lay in the darkness together.
“I love you,” I said quietly, the words feeling more real than anything I’d ever said before.

“I love you too,” she replied, her head resting on my chest as she traced patterns on my skin with her finger.

Just then, we heard the sound of another engine approaching through the darkness.
I reached for my gun, but Violet placed her hand on mine to stop me. “wait,” she said quietly. “I think it's them.”

I moved to the cabin window and peered out into the night. Two boats were approaching, one was Donovan’s, the other was a larger vessel that looked like it belonged to my casino security team.
I could see Alistair standing at the bow of Donovan’s boat with his medical bag slung over his shoulder, and Donovan standing beside him, his face set with determination.

“They made it,” I said quietly, relief flooding through me.

We dressed quickly and went out on deck to meet them as they pulled alongside our boat. Donovan climbed aboard first, pulling Violet into a tight embrace before turning to me with a nod of acknowledgment.

“Father has taken full control of the Gray Circle,” he said without preamble.
“He’s already purging anyone who’s loyal to us, and he’s put a price on all our heads, especially Violet’s. He’s telling everyone she betrayed the organization and that anyone who helps her will be dealt with as a traitor.”

“Then we need to fight back,” Violet said firmly, stepping forward. “We can’t let him turn us into fugitives.”

“We will,” Alistair said, climbing aboard with two of our men carrying supplies.
“But we need to be smart about it. We can’t fight him head-on, not yet. We need to gather our allies, build our strength, and wait for the right moment.”

“And in the meantime?” Violet asked, looking at each of us in turn.

“In the meantime,” Donovan said, joining us on deck with a grin, it's the grin he got when he was planning something dangerous. “We’ll hit him where it hurts. His businesses, his supply lines and his reputation, we’ll make him regret ever turning on us.”

I looked at my brothers, at the woman standing beside me, whom I realized I will do anything for, and knew that even though the road ahead would be dangerous and difficult, we’d face it together.
My father might have taken control of the Gray Circle for now, but he’d underestimated us

“Then let’s get to work,” I said, pulling Violet close as we watched the sun begin to rise over the Mediterranean.
“Because this war is just getting started.”
