Chapter 193 THE SITUATIONS WE FIND OURSELVES IN
LANCE’S POV
I'm sure as hell that I did not sign up for this.
Not for any of this situation of Ancient wolves–no I actually knew about this beforehand so maybe I did sign up for this one.
But I sure as hell didn't sign up for cursed goddess, bleeding Alphas and my reality splitting in front of me while the forest itself looks and feels cursed.
This was all supposed to be simple.
Simple!
That’s the part that keeps repeating in my head as I stand frozen where I am staring at the destruction right in front of me like I'm in some fever dream from hell.
This was all supposed to be easy and quick too.
The Moon goddess had approached me herself in a dream–
Or at least what I thought was the Moon goddess at that time, turns out she's just a phone fraud.
At the time, it had felt like destiny had finally chosen me.
After years of others being picked, even the man I later grew to love, I would finally have my vindication and finally be picked to be his mate.
Because finally, someone actually understood that Sebastian should never have come between Ragnar and me in the first place.
And yes, I had hesitated in the beginning, who wouldn't have?
Even with my resentment and anger towards Ragnar for leaving me behind years ago, something about her offer at that time had felt… strange.
Too convenient and eager for an all powerful goddess.
But then Ragnar had actually stood in that arena and destroyed all my schemings when he publicly claimed Sebastian as his mate.
His second chance mate.
And everything inside me had shattered at the exact same time.
Because second chance mates were not even supposed to be possible but of course if anyone were to get one, of course it'll be Ragnar.
And guess what?
It wasn't to me. It was to that insolent runt Sebastian!
Ragnar got one with him and not me.
All these years, it was never going to be me.
So like a fool, I accepted her offer.
And now?
Now I’m standing in the middle of the forest watching bomb after bomb of insanity detonate in flames right in front of me.
The first revelation nearly made me sick to my stomach but confirmed my suspicions against her.
The Moon goddess isn’t even the real Moon goddess.
She’s just some twisted entity who's been feeding on suffering and misery for centuries while pretending to be divine.
Then came the second horror that I wasn't prepared for–
Sebastian has an ancient wolf inside him that was old enough to hate and despise her.
He is actually old enough to know her personally and his mere presence made her subtly flinch in fear.
The others may not see or notice it, but he could feel her fear.
What is it about him that made a “divine entity” like her feel fear?
Then came the worst part that made him sick to his stomach for real.
The Rogues, the one curse infecting and plaguing the entire realm that every pack fears.
Apparently Alisander started it–
But she spread and cultivated it to grow so many centuries later.
She turned suffering into a system that fed and kept her powerful.
And now to my shock–
Now there’s a sword sticking right out of Dax’s stomach making me blank out with confusion.
What's going on?
I merely got lost in my musings only for this to happen, how?!
I stare at it blankly because my mind has simply stopped processing what's in front of me.
A lot has happened today and it seems like my mind gave up on understanding everything.
Dax is on the ground being held by a murderous Ragnar with blood pooling under him as the fake goddess stands with a silver halo around her.
Which idiot worshipped and brought this calamity to us in the first place?!
And she’s actually talking to me?
“Calm yourself Lance,” she says sharply but calmly like she can sense my inner turmoil.
Her voice no longer sounds warm or soothing but it's now overlapping strangely.
It's like four of her are speaking all at once as something guttural sneaks through from her mouth.
“Isn’t this what you wanted in the first place?” she presses on. “Ragnar.”
My mouth opens and closes with confusion.
“What?”
“You wanted him!” she says impatiently, like I’m the unreasonable one here.
“Help me finish this and I will remove the bond between Ragnar and Sebastian.”
My heart stutters as she continues.
“And replace it with yours.”
The words hit me harder than they should because as much as I know the bad news that she is, some disgusting and desperate part of me still wants to believe her.
After all, why is everyone around me getting their mates and not me when finding your mate is supposed to be rare?!
Even Ragnar got two but I can't even get one?!
Even now, especially after all of this, some parts of me, or even most parts of me, still desperately want Ragnar as my mate.
I despise that part of myself, I hate how it.makes me disgusted with myself.
“You can do that for me?” I ask quietly.
Her smile sharpens into a complacent one.
“Yes.”
I waver, oh gods above, I actually waver at that.
If there’s actually the faintest chance that I could actually–
Alisander stands and it interrupts my train of thoughts immediately.
The air changes immediately around him and before anyone can react, he starts chanting.
The strange language snakes through the forest as the forest actually springs alive like it's encouraging his chanting.
It takes time but I can finally make out the origin of what he's chanting.
It's Gaelic.
The language of the dead witches.
Every syllable of whatever he's saying makes my skin physically crawl as beside me, the false goddess freezes instantly.
Shock and fear flash across her face.
“Where did you hear that?!” she demands with fury.
Alisander’s eyes glow even more crimson.
“When I was chased into the forbidden forest by you,” he says coldly. “I found more than that Rogue spell.”
The chanting continues softly beneath his words as he continues.
“I found the binding ritual too. It's strong enough to bind even a twisted being like you.”
Something flickers across her face then as I see true and real fear on her face.
