Chapter 96 You Are Back

Chapter 96 You Are Back

At 2 AM, Isabella received a call from James.

As soon as she answered, James's drunken voice came through. "Isabella, I'm so dizzy. Where are you? Can you come pick me up? I miss you."

"I miss you so much! Can you come to me right now? I really miss you... He slurred, "I like you the most."

Isabella rolled her eyes impatiently, but her tone sounded very concerned. "I miss you too. Where are you, James?"

After getting the address, even though she was extremely reluctant, she still went.

Half an hour later, Isabella struggled to help the unsteady James into the car.

After buckling his seatbelt, Isabella was already out of breath. Looking at his flushed cheeks, she couldn't help but wonder. "Why did you drink so much today?"

He often drank at parties, but rarely got himself completely wasted.

Hearing this, James burped, then deliberately leaned sideways into Isabella's arms. He opened his hazy eyes and started complaining to her. "Isabella, I'm so upset..."

"I don't understand why Olivia has become like this. How could she mess around with my uncle and threaten to break off our engagement again and again? Don't I have feelings too? Doesn't it hurt me?"

"What did I do wrong? Why is she treating me like this? After all these years together, how could she just throw it all away..." The more he talked, the more wronged he felt. He simply wrapped his arms around her waist and buried his face in her stomach, longing for comfort.

Isabella almost threw up from his alcohol breath, but she could only hold back her disgust. She pretended to be caring, stroking his head and gently comforting him. "James, it's not your fault. It's Olivia who betrayed you."

James suddenly looked up and asked. "Isabella, what if it were you?"

"Me?"

He propped himself up, one hand on the window frame, looking at her eye to eye. "If you were my fiancée, would you betray me like Olivia did?"

Isabella shook her head firmly, denying it seriously. "Of course not."

"I knew it." Hearing her say this, James broke into a smile. He leaned forward, pressing his forehead against hers, his voice lingering. "You're all I have."

He knew it was that bitch Olivia who didn't know what was good for her. With his charm, he had no shortage of women throwing themselves at him!

The moment those words fell, Isabella clearly felt a large hand slip under her skirt. James moved closer, his warm breath brushing past her earlobe, his lips grazing her cheek, about to kiss her.

"James, we can't." At the critical moment, Isabella raised her hand to cover James's lips.

Meeting James's dissatisfied gaze, Isabella cursed him internally. So that was why he specifically asked her to pick him up tonight—it was for this.

She kissed his cheek, with a hint of shyness. "I got my period. Let's wait a couple of days."

Then she pulled his hand to press against her chest, smiling playfully. "I'll wear that new outfit I bought, you'll definitely like it."

Afraid he wouldn't agree, Isabella turned to showing concern for his health, her words full of worry that his body couldn't handle being so drunk.

"Fine." James temporarily gave up the idea. He pinched her erect nipple and told her to buy a couple more outfits.

Even though Isabella's excuse was reasonable, James still felt uncomfortable.

He couldn't help but think of Olivia.

She would never have refused him before, unlike now...

"James, we're home."

The car stopped. Isabella gently shook James's shoulder, reminding him softly.

James didn't move and even started snoring.

With no other choice, Isabella could only tip the driver to help carry him inside.

"Thanks for your help."

She glanced at James snoring loudly on the bed, turned to follow the driver, and had him take her back.

As for James, bringing him home was already more than enough. Did he expect her to stay and take care of him?

"Nice try." She scoffed and left without looking back.

The cicadas outside kept chirping, making James's headache worse. Just then, a warm hand touched his forehead, and he heard someone speaking softly. "Good, no fever, but why is your face so hot?" The tone was full of deep concern.

Who was she?

James tried hard to open his eyes, but his eyelids felt like lead—he just couldn't open them.

Then, that person helped him sit up, let him lean against her, and fed him oatmeal porridge in small spoonfuls.

The oatmeal was cooked soft and smooth, mixed with crushed walnuts and chopped almonds, with some raisins and honey sprinkled in. The taste was rich with a light sweet fragrance.

With just one bite, James recognized this as the nut oatmeal porridge Olivia used to make for him.

Had she come?

Why would she come take care of him? Didn't she hate him now?

Could it be that after hearing he was drunk, she got worried and couldn't pretend to be cold anymore, so she came specially to take care of him?

He knew it.

He knew she still loved him. Those harsh words and drawing boundaries were just playing hard to get.

Thinking this, James grabbed Olivia's hand. He smiled, magnanimously saying, "It's good that you're back."

He'd forgive her this time, but there wouldn't be a next time.

Olivia didn't speak, just continued feeding him the oatmeal porridge.

Although the oatmeal was delicious, strangely, the more James drank, the thirstier he became. He pressed down on Olivia's hand as she was about to feed him more porridge, his voice hoarse. "I'm thirsty."

"Okay." Olivia put down the bowl and got up to pour him water.

After a while, she still hadn't returned.

"Olivia, water, pour me water..." His throat felt very dry. James kept swallowing, trying to moisten his parched throat this way, but it was useless.

He reached out, slapping the bed, struggling to open his eyes, mumbling calls for Olivia who never returned.

After struggling for who knows how long, James finally managed to open his eyes with difficulty.

He didn't care about the darkness in the room and instinctively crawled toward the nightstand.

But the surface was empty—there was no glass of water like he'd imagined.

Damn it, why didn't Olivia pour him water?

James got up angrily and embarrassed, stumbling downstairs.

After gulping down a bottle of water, he gasped for air, and his foggy mind finally cleared a bit.

He looked up at the quiet, empty house in front of him, and only then did he realize: Olivia hadn't come back at all. Everything just now had been his dream.

But why? Didn't she used to care about his health the most? Every time he woke up from being drunk, she was always there taking care of him.

He suddenly missed Olivia terribly.

James didn't hesitate to call Olivia.

"Hello, the number you have dialed is currently..."

The mechanical female voice echoed in the air. James forced a smile.

He'd forgotten again—she had already blocked him.
