Chapter 100 The Kind-hearted Mysterious Person
Chapter 100 The Kind-hearted Mysterious Person
Before Olivia could think more about it, her phone buzzed in her pocket.
James: [Olivia, are you free to meet during lunch break today? I need to talk to you.]
Right after, he sent another message with a coffee shop location.
James: [I'll wait for you.]
After a moment, Olivia replied with a simple "okay."
She wanted to see what he was up to this time.
At noon, Olivia got off work on time and headed to the coffee shop next to the company.
"So, what is it?" Olivia got straight to the point after sitting down across from James.
James smiled gently and pushed a cup toward her. "I ordered your favorite juice for you, with ice and less sugar."
Olivia ignored his thoughtfulness and repeated her question.
Seeing this, James looked hurt. "Do you really not want to chat with me at all? If you're willing to drop out of the design competition, I'll give you a large sum of money. Name your price."
Just as she expected, nothing good.
Olivia rejected him without hesitation.
She did need money right now, but if she could win the competition, she could earn much more from it in the future. It wasn't worth compromising for this immediate benefit.
"If there's nothing else, I'm leaving." With that, Olivia pressed her hands on the table and stood up to leave.
"Wait!" James quickly grabbed her hand. Seeing her look of disgust, he wisely withdrew his hand immediately and said in a low voice. "Sorry."
Noticing his polite demeanor, Olivia's expression softened slightly as she said indifferently, "Anything else?"
James looked directly at her, his expression impossibly gentle, even saying extremely softly. "Actually, I do support you participating in the competition. If you need it, I can help you contact the judges and pull some strings."
Hearing this, Olivia was confused.
Had he lost his mind?
A moment ago, he helped Isabella persuade her to withdraw, and then he put on an act, claiming he wanted to help her.
Olivia couldn't be bothered to guess what he was thinking and rejected him again. "No need."
She left quickly.
James propped his chin on his hand, smiling as he watched Olivia leave.
He suddenly felt that she looked quite cute when angry.
He infinitely preferred the ambitious, self-aware, and straightforward Olivia she had become to the fool who used to shadow him.
If she were like this now as his fiancée, he might accept it.
Before leaving, James specially packed a cup of juice with less sugar and more ice.
When Olivia returned to the office, she was surprised to find a cup of juice waiting on her desk.
"Wrong delivery?" She picked up the sticky note from the packaging bag in confusion. When she saw the words on it, she rolled her eyes and tossed the juice into the trash can by her feet.
James again.
Over the next few days, things kept appearing on Olivia's desk from time to time—sometimes breakfast, sometimes snacks, and today it was a bouquet of gorgeous red roses.
Olivia threw them all in the trash.
James didn't give up because of her rejections. Instead, he became more persistent, driving over to pick her up every morning and evening without fail.
But Olivia always pretended not to see him, brushing past him and getting straight into a ride-share car nearby.
This day, when she came home from work, the front desk of her residential building called out to Olivia. "There's a gift for you."
Olivia went through her recent deliveries in her mind and said hesitantly. "Is it a package? I haven't bought anything recently."
"It's not a package." The front desk took out a beautifully wrapped box and handed it to her, teasing. "It's from that man in the suit who dropped you off yesterday. He specifically told me to hand it to you personally, and said he wants to take you to dinner tomorrow."
Hearing this, Olivia rolled her eyes speechlessly and said wearily. "Please throw it away for me, and please refuse anything else he sends in the future."
Seeing her about to throw it away without hesitation, the front desk quickly stopped her. "What a waste to throw it away! I've seen this brand of bracelet online, one costs like tens of thousands of dollars!"
That was almost her entire year's salary!
Just as she was about to persuade her more, the front desk staff suddenly seemed to remember something and asked Olivia. "Do you think he might be the one who privately solved your neighbor problem?"
Such an expensive gift—normally people would present it in person, and very formally, but the man in the suit only asked for it to be delivered to her hands, with no intention of taking credit.
Just like when the neighbor problem was solved, doing good deeds without leaving a name.
Reminded by the front desk, Olivia became thoughtful.
After hesitating, she still accepted the gift.
Actually, she had always suspected someone privately helped her solve the neighbor issue. After all, that neighbor wasn't easy to deal with—at the slightest dissatisfaction, she would cry, make a scene, or threaten suicide. How could she suddenly have a change of heart?
But the question was, was it really James?
Olivia glanced at the gift beside her. She didn't open it and put it directly in the cabinet.
The next day, Olivia went to work as usual.
During lunch break, she rubbed her sore neck and shoulders and joined the group's casual chat.
To figure out who had helped her, she deliberately mentioned that the streetlight on her way home was broken. "The property management was supposed to fix it two days ago, but still nothing. I don't know what we're paying property fees for."
"It's pitch black there. A couple days ago I almost tripped and fell, scared me to death."
The young assistant, unaware of the situation, thought she was just venting and agreed indignantly. "Our property management is the same! They announced the main gate was broken half a month ago, and they still haven't fixed it!"
To make sure the mysterious person could hear, Olivia emphasized twice more how much trouble the broken streetlight was causing her.
Time flew to evening, and the whole team worked overtime until after midnight.
Thinking of her 'lightbulb plan,' Olivia didn't push herself today and was the first to leave.
"Olivia!"
As soon as he saw Olivia, James, who had been waiting at the door for a long time, rushed over excitedly.
He flashed a gentle smile, "It's too late now, it's hard to get a cab and not safe either. Let me drive you home?"
After speaking, he looked at her, waiting nervously for her reply.
He had been rejected by her countless times these past few days. An ordinary pursuer would probably have given up long ago.
He thought she would reject him again this time, but unexpectedly, she nodded.
"It's okay, then I'll just follow behind your car..." James instinctively compromised, and it took him a full two seconds to react. "Really?"
Wild joy instantly rose in his eyes, and his voice trembled with excitement.
Olivia thought of the light still on in Alexander's office when she passed by earlier. She nodded lightly. "Let's go."
She was still waiting for the mystery to be revealed.
