Chapter 154 154
Lysandra~~
“They must have hidden it from you, but I had an agreement with the clan councils before I took you away from the hospital after childbirth,” Jonathan said to me. He and his mum had been unnecessarily nice to me these past few days, but it was nothing because I already knew their plans.
He continued, “We agreed that after three months, if my brother hasn't recovered, I will likely take over his rule. And as you can see, it's been over two months already, and the agreement seems void since you signed my own agreement.”
I took a soft gulp and nodded gently, "What's your point now?”
“The agreement has been submitted to the clan councils, and you are summoned. Once we are done with them, the business board of directors will likely summon us too, so you could make a claim that you signed the paper,” he explained, and I shrugged. “Or, should I have them all gathered at the same time? It can only cost a token.”
I really had nothing to tell him.
“Whatever you want, and however it would be less stressful. Just hit on me when it's the day to meet with them." I said confidently, sounding like I had fully adhered to everything he thought.
He looked so glad as a winner that he thought he was.
“And, could you stop my sister from coming here? My pups almost got hurt the other time.” I lamented, something I'd been looking for a chance to say, because I wanted him to feel I was getting along smoothly.
He nodded, “It's already taken care of, and I apologize for the inconvenience she caused you the other time.”
Later on, he left the room, and I sighed in relief. Now that it had reached this point, what would be done? How will he handle it when he finds out that I never used my official signature on the paper? He would want me dead by his hands, but I hope not to return to this place again after that time.
The days after went smoothly as usual, and although I still do not let his mum in, I had become fond of her at some point and told myself several times that she would miss me too. Sometimes, she brought up a discussion so we could chat, and I gave her a listening ear, then got in after she was done.
And I knew she must have told her son how I was getting along and how they were getting what they wanted.
I texted Clement with the burner phone and told him about Jonathan's plans and how he should get things ready for me to be taken away from him on that day. I also sent him on an errand to my college in the human land, because I hadn't been following up for the three weeks that we had resumed.
There were just two weeks left in the third month, and I feared that Ramsey wouldn't be cured before it ended. Although they always assured me he was getting better, a part of me still doubted it.
And this afternoon, when I was cuddling my pups to sleep, I began inhaling strong smoke like something was getting burnt, but I initially paid less attention to it. By the time my pups slept off, I decided to freshen up before placing my order for lunch, so I wouldn't be in the bathroom when the deliverer arrived.
In there, the smoke became so strong that even my lycan began whimpering as it was suffocating. I washed off the soapy foam all over my body and rushed out, only to see that my room had been covered in the smoke already.
I quickly had my dress on and got my hands on my pups. I rushed out of the room, hoping to find my way downstairs, but there was a heavy flame that its hotness even touched me despite the distance downstairs.
There were cries from people. Both sides of the building were burning and spreading rapidly, so there was no way for me to take off down the stairs.
I entered my room again and locked it off, my heart racing in fear.
“No one is coming. How do I save my pups first? How did this whole building get to this?” I muttered and opened the window to look down at the distance to the floor. “I'm going to die if I jump off.”
Oh goddess, what's this?
I suddenly heard a sound, more like the flame was magnetized to a particular side, and I was trembling as to what would be my fate.
Should I just get my body damp and run through the flame?
“What about my pups? How am I going to save them?”
‘Let's transform and jump off the building. Even if we are hurt, we won't die,’ my lycan suggested, and I wiped my sweaty forehead. ‘I'm going to hold the pups very tight, so don't worry about them so much.’
I had to worry about them, because my lycan hasn't done this before.
Since there was no other alternative than the idea she had just given, I heeded to it, and we transformed into our lycan form. She grunted, and she walked to the bed and took hold of the pups.
At that moment, the door of the room exploded, and the flame rushed in with great speed and force. My lycan growled and fastened her steps towards the window.
Even in the background where I was, I was so restless. My heart was palpitating in great fear for my pups.
My lycan climbed onto the window frame, and in the blink of an eye, she leaped from there.
I shut my eyes, scared that we would crumble and this effort would be a waste. But her whimpering made me open my eyes to see us lying on the floor, my pups crying aloud in her arms.
‘Sandra, I can't walk,’ she purred at me. ‘You have to take me out of this place.’
I didn't think twice and took over her, so with my strength, she was able to jump over the fence, and we took off into the main road.
When I looked back, the whole building was turning to ashes, and I feared that people wouldn't be able to get out, because I guessed the fire had started in such a place that no one would be able to pass through it.
But how did it happen? Who could have caused this?
We ran down the road in my lycan form, hoping to get a helper who would take us away. My lycan was becoming weaker, and I, too, had little strength in me.
My pups were still crying, and hearing those tiny voices shattered me.
At some point, I became out of breath, and my lycan, whose strength was nowhere again, slumped to the floor, her huge arm pressing the pups to her hairy body. She grunted in pain and tried howling for attention, but had no strength to.
‘There's no vehicle passing by here. What could be going on? This is the major road.’ my lycan mumbled. ‘Let's transform back to human, Sandra…’
It was of no use because I was weak myself, and my strength was little compared to hers, which shielded the pups so well from getting hurt.
‘Let's try to get to a bus stop so we can take a rest there.’ I said to her, and she agreed, trying to get to her paws again, while I also added the last strength I had in me. ‘We have to make it out alive, okay.’
She glanced back at the building, and we could only see a building that had already turned black.
Jonathan wasn't around, and I wondered if there was no one, even amongst his whole men, who could call the firefighters. I took a risk by jumping off that building, and I knew that some wouldn't survive if they did so.
My pups; they were my everything, and I would go to great lengths to protect them.
Despite all struggles, we couldn't successfully get to our feet. I tried as much as I could, my lycan tried her best, and the pups tried to call for help with their loud wailing. Yet nothing helped, and we just lay at the side of the road that way, helpless and hopeless.
The man who always came for me was sick, and his men might be too busy to consider coming over, or they wouldn't even know what was going on, because this residence was almost out of the clan.
Since no one was coming, we lay there until the pups stopped crying, and we too dozed off.
