Chapter 170 Interrogation

Chapter 170 Purification
Lyra POV

"Lyra, a moment?" Gabriel requested. Not good. He seems to discern my intentions. Is he going to dissuade me, or what?

I stepped into the hallway with Gabriel, careful to avoid the medical staff bustling about. The sterile scent of antiseptic couldn't mask the lingering smell of blood and battle that still clung to our bodies. My heart was pounding, the white wolf's energy still humming beneath my skin like electricity.

"You really want to do this? Take his dark energy?" Gabriel asked, his voice low and intense. His ash-gray eyes studied me carefully, searching for any hesitation.

I nodded firmly. "For ensuring Dominic stays away from Isabella and me, yes. And Eleanor said it wouldn't affect me at all."

Gabriel's jaw tightened. "Not 'at all.' She said you would feel discomfort during the purification process."

I met his gaze steadily. "If a little discomfort can bring Isabella and me lasting peace, it's worth it."

His eyes searched mine, concern evident in those ash-gray depths. Finally, he sighed. "I'll allow it, but if you feel any real pain during the energy absorption, you stop immediately." His voice dropped to a dangerous whisper. "I can feel your pain through our mate bond, Lyra, so don't try to tough it out. If you do, I really will kill Dominic."

The fierce protectiveness in his tone made something warm unfurl in my chest, despite everything.

"I'll be careful," I promised.

When we returned to Isabella's room, my sister's anxious eyes immediately found mine. Dominic stood beside her bed, his posture tense but submissive. A strange look for an Alpha who'd once commanded me with such cruelty.

"I need to do something to Dominic first," I explained to Isabella. "I can sense his energy, and there's darkness there that needs to be taken away."

Isabella nodded, understanding in her eyes. "Okay, Lyra. I trust you."

I approached Dominic cautiously. Despite my newfound power, old fears died hard. My inner wolf remained alert, remembering too well the pain this man had caused us.

"Stay focused," she urged. "We're doing this for Isabella and ourselves."

I closed my eyes and extended my senses toward Dominic, feeling for the energy signatures Eleanor had taught me to recognize. Immediately, I sensed white energy, his life force. But twisted around it were intertwining strands of black and yellow energy. Both were surprisingly dense and vibrant.

This confused me. How could positive and negative energy be so thoroughly entangled? Usually, one dominated the other.

I reached out tentatively with my mind, touching both energies simultaneously. To my surprise, I could now not only control the direction of energy flow but also sense its emotional content. Both the black and yellow energies contained the same emotions: love and care.

His love for Isabella exists in both forms, I realized. The yellow is healthy love, but the black is that same love twisted into something possessive and dangerous.

If I removed the black energy, would Dominic be left with only healthy love for Isabella? Could they possibly live together happily? Am I making the right decision breaking them two apart...?

No!I dismissed the thought immediately. I had no idea how the white wolf's energy truly worked, or if new darkness might eventually replace what I removed. For safety's sake, I needed to extract as much of the black energy as possible, then stick to my original plan: keeping Dominic away from Isabella and me.

Taking a deep breath, I began separating the black energy from the yellow, guiding the darkness toward myself. I braced for discomfort, but to my astonishment, as the black energy entered my body, it began rapidly transforming into yellow. More surprisingly, I felt no fatigue whatsoever.

My ability is evolving, I thought with excitement. I'm not just transferring energy anymore. I'm purifying it.

I carefully directed the newly purified yellow energy back into Dominic, watching as it merged seamlessly with his existing positive energy. The process was delicate but becoming easier with each passing minute.

After more than thirty minutes, I'd converted most of the black energy, but some strands remained stubbornly intertwined with his white life force. Attempting to extract those would risk harming his vital energy—potentially killing him. I'd promised Isabella I wouldn't hurt Dominic, so I decided to leave those dark tendrils alone.

Their presence confirmed my decision was right. Dominic's darkness was deeply rooted, connected to his very life essence. There was no way to eliminate the dark energy completely without killing him. He needed to stay away from Isabella and me.

I finally opened my eyes, surprised to find myself standing steady without any weakness. The room came back into focus: Isabella watching with hopeful eyes, Gabriel tense and alert by the door, and Dominic looking... different. His amber eyes seemed clearer, his expression more open than before.

"It's done," I announced. "I've purified what I could of your energy. Now it's time for you to leave, as agreed."

Dominic nodded slowly, his eyes lingering on Isabella. "Goodbye, Isabella," he said simply, the word carrying finality.

After he left, I turned to Isabella. "You should rest now."

"Thank you," she whispered, her eyes already drooping with exhaustion.

As I watched her drift off to sleep, I marveled at the white wolf's power. Such abilities had to be used wisely, not for revenge or domination.

"Are you alright?" Gabriel's concerned eyes scanned my face.

I didn't answer him, my mind already focused on my next destination. Without looking back, I started walking toward the exit.

"Where are you going?" Gabriel called, quickly catching up to me.

"To visit our old friend in prison," I replied, not breaking stride.
