Chapter 30 30
Maddy’s POV
I couldn't believe that Zac would still push through with his plan. Last night, while we were having our passionate time, I begged him to forget about Alpha Draven and focus on building our relationship, and he agreed only to break the promise today.
I didn't bother reminding him of it. I was scared for Jason. I wanted to help him, but I didn't know how to.m. Zac is an evil man, and it took me a while to realise this. I had to stop him and do something before he killed my long lost friend Jason.
I had thought about different ways, but the only thing I could focus on was freeing Jason. His help would be needed in the fight. I had taken the keys to the underground cell’s gate from Zac when I hugged him earlier.
There was not much security around, so I should be able to get him out of the cell in peace. I walked briskly down the hallway that led to the cell. When I got there, I opened it after looking around to make sure I wasn't being followed by a maid.
Seeing no one behind me, I stepped into the cell. Jason lay at the side with his eyes closed. I covered my nose when the stench of the cell hit me.
"Jason," I called. He opened his eyes. "What do you want?" He asked. There was a slight anger in her voice.
"I want to help you, to free you from the cell," I said, thinking that would make him jump on his feet, but that didn't happen.
"Is this another trick from Zac?" He asked. "No, I'm doing this myself right now," I said to him. I perceive a whiff of Zac's scent. 'So he has been here,' I thought.
It took me a long time to convince Jason that what I was doing had nothing to do with Zac and that I truly wanted to help him get out of here. He agreed to run away from the cell with me. The only thing I wanted was for him to be safe.
I gave him guard's clothes that I had picked to help him disguise himself, and then we stepped out.

Hazel’s POV
I rushed over to Draven. His eyes were opened as he blinked to get used to the light in the room. I helped him up on the bed. I was washed with relief. When he sat down, I pulled him in for a hug. He hugged me back.
I never knew I'd be so happy to see him regain consciousness. "How do you feel now?" I asked when we pulled away from the hug.
"Better," he said. Though he had just regained consciousness, I noticed his voice was firm. "I'm so glad that you've finally regained consciousness; I was scared," I said. He placed his hand on mine and squeezed it lightly.
He smiled and said, "But I am okay now. You don't have to worry." He raises his hands to blow some strands of hair away from my face. His hands were warm.
I nodded.
I turned to the maid who was in the room with me. "Call in Noah," I said. She bowed a little and started walking to the door. She had barely taken three steps when Draven called him back.
"There would be no need for that." He said.
"But why!" I was confused. He had just regained consciousness, so I thought it would be better to have the doctor check on him. "Because I'm fine. I don't need it," he said.
"Are you sure?" I asked, my eyes holding his. He nodded in affirmation. "You can send the doctor away," he said to the maid, who bowed before leaving.
"What happened to you?" I asked him. He adjusted to the bed. He released a sharp breath. "Are you sure you are okay?" I asked.
"Yes," he said. His hand was still holding mine, and then he entwined his with mine. "I met Adrian’s mother," he said. I nodded, trying to understand what he was saying. He has been unconscious, so how did he meet Adrian’s mother?
"Where did you meet her?" I asked him. Though I didn't fully understand what he was saying, I wanted to listen to him. "I met her while I was unconscious," he said.
Maybe I understood a little now, but I needed more explanation of what he was talking about. I nodded as a sign that he should go on. "Well, the truth was that I wasn't sick; I was just stuck in my mind," he said. I raised a brow.
"Stuck in your mind?" I was not able to comprehend what he was saying. He nodded. He went in to explain to me in detail what happened. Everything he spoke with Adrian’s mother about.
"A ghost wolf?" I asked, and he nodded. I unconsciously place my hands on my stomach. This child I was carrying already had a great deal of responsibility. I know his life may be in danger, and the thought alone sent shivers down my spine.
Draven noticed my fear. "Don't be scared; I'm here with you," he assured me. I tried to smile. Some of his pack didn't seem to welcome me and had already begun frowning at me. And he already has an arranged mate. I had a long way to go.
I could already feel that my life was about to take another drastic change. I wanted to ask him about his arranged mate, but I knew now was not the time. I had to tell him about the attack on the pack first. Zac was already at the border.
"Zac is here with his men. And to didn’t care to tell me about this issue before the mating ceremony," I said to him. He squinted his eyes. "What do you mean?" he asked.
I bit my tongue. This was what I should have explained to him before having those other conversations with him. It was the pack's safety before anything else.
"Zac has decided to launch an attack on the pack," I said. I paused to allow him to take in what I just said, and then I continued, "While you were unconscious, Jason, your trusted warrior sent a message of warning, and now Zac is here," I said.
"Where is Jason?" he asked.
"He couldn't complete the mission so he had been held hostage by Zac.” The news didn't sit well with Draven. The air in the room suddenly became serious. "And now Zac is on our border with his men?" He asked again to be sure, and I nodded.
"Zac is not as strong as I am. So you don't have to be afraid. No harm will come to you or our child," he said. “Our child?” I asked. Ealier I told the elders thag I was carrying Draven’s child so how did he know?
Or he didn’t want me to feel strange? "What should we do?" I asked him. "I already have men at the border; they will keep him busy for now," he said. He stood up from his bed and walked to the wardrobe.
"What are the chances that he would be able to defeat the men?" I asked. Draven was quiet for a while. "Sixty percent," I heard him say.
"Sixty?" I was surprised and a little scared. "That's a lot," I said. "But you don't have to be worried," he said, but I couldn't stop worrying. My eyes moved to look at him as he took off his shirt and wore a black leather jacket.
He looked so agile for someone who had just regained consciousness. Well, what do I expect from an alpha? "We shouldn't underestimate our enemy. I may be stronger than Zac, but that doesn't make him any weaker," he said.
It seemed like he didn't like the jacket as he took it off to reveal a well-structured body. "You see, Zac is..." I couldn't hear what he said anymore as my eyes were trained on his body.
Oh my gosh, I didn't know Draven was dead hot. I wanted to run my hands on his abs. Well, you can't blame me; it's not every time you get to see a man that is as hot as he is.
"So you should stay here with the maids?" His voice jotted me out of my reverie. He was wearing a blue jacket and was now facing me. He seems to be waiting for an answer.
"No. I won't be staying here. I caused this, so I should be out there with you and fix it," I said without making any room for argument.
He walks towards me. "I know, but I want to keep you safe," he said, trying to change my mind, but I wasn't going to bulge.
"Fine then." He finally agreed. I was happy that I could help. I wasn't very good at fighting this; I had been trained, but I wanted to help. Even if all I had to do was stand close to him,
"Stay behind me at all times," he said, and I nodded. He handed me a gun that had already been loaded. I looked at the gun and then moved my gaze to look at him.
He stepped closer to me and pressed his lips on my forehead. "Be safe, Hazel," he said. Those words warmed my heart. Before I could tell him how I felt too, he took a step back and walked out of the room. I was quick to follow him behind.
