Chapter 29 29

Chapter 29 29
Hazel’s POV
After going back to my room, I took a quick bath. The maids had placed my dress at the time I returned. They brought breakfast to my room. I had no appetite. I took a few bites of the food and sent it back to the kitchen.
I walked to the window. My heart was heavy. The doctor had said Draven would soon regain consciousness, but he has not. He still lay on the bed. Noah had come to check on him at various times.
I couldn't wait for Draven to be back on his feet. I stared out of the window. A cold breeze rushed into the room, and I pulled my jacket closer to myself. I wanted to help the pack. I knew how ruthless Zac could be.
He had attacked my friend’s pack when we were younger. I walked back to sit beside Draven, brushing some strands of hair away from his face. I stared at his handsome face.
Just then, the door pushed open, and one of the maids walked in. She tried to steady her breath.
"What's wrong?" I was alarmed.
"There is an attack on the pack. The enemy's forces are almost at our gate." She said. My heart thudded loudly in my chest. I stood up immediately and said, 'What should I do?' I dismissed the maid.
I was about to walk out when I felt a cold hand wrap around mine, pulling me back. I turned to see Draven staring straight into my eyes. I let out a breath, relieved. He has finally regained consciousness.
Zac’s POV
Before I left to launch the attack on Draven, I decided to visit one his men that I had underground. I walked through the path of the underground prison. My eyes moved from one cell to the next.
Most of the cells had no one in them. There were bones of those who had died inside that were left. I stood in front of Jason; we were now separated by an iron bar. I had made sure to have moved him from the cell he was in to this place.
There were chains on the wall inside his cell. I watched as he lay on the ground, looking lifeless. He was weak. He had been beaten and suffered a lot of injuries.
Though he had healed, which was a good thing, he didn't have a single ounce of energy in him, and I was glad. I turned to the wolf behind me. He nodded and opened the door. Jason was in a deep sleep.
I wonder what type of sleep makes a werewolf less conscious of himself. After the guard had opened the door, he splashed water on Jason, and Jason jumped at once. He sat up and sent a small glare at the guard as he walked out.
He sat up and held my gaze. He still wasn't scared. "What do I owe this visit, dear Alpha Zac?" He asked sarcastically. I squinted my eyes. I loved being respected, and I was sure he was well aware of that.
"You better fix your tongue, or I'll have it chopped off," I threatened. "You can't do more than you've already done," he said, holding my gaze. He lifted his hands and placed them through his hair.
"That's what you think, right?" I smacked, and he nodded in affirmation. I inhaled a sharp scent of breath, trying to keep my anger in check. "Snap his head off; why are you holding back?" My wolf growled within me.
No. This wasn't the time for that. I had come here with something different in mind. I didn't want to go kill Jason. I wanted to give him an alibi. What would break Draven more than to see the best warrior of his pack fighting side by side with his enemy?
The thought of that made me feel warm, and I longed to see such a reaction. "I am not here to fight with you," I told him gently.
"Then why are you here?" He asked. "Don't tell me you came to stare at my face. I know I have the looks, but I'm sorry, I don't do boys. I'm straight," I heard him say, and a wave of anger flashed through my eyes, but for the bigger picture, I had to keep myself in check.
"I didn't come to stare at your face either." It took me all I had to say those words calmly. "Then get to the point: why are you here?" He asked, and his voice rose a little, but I ignored it. I didn't know I could be this patient.
"I came to offer you a deal," I said.
"I'm not interested in dealing with the devil," he said, looking away. My eyes widened a bit. "Snap off his head," my wolf yelled to me.
"Hear me out first," I said. He kept his eyes trained on what was in the darkness before turning them to me. "I want you to join forces with me; in return, I'll keep you alive. What do you say?" I asked.
This was an offer I knew he would jump on. A man would give anything for his life. He stared at me like I was going crazy. I raised a brow to remind him that I was still waiting for his answer.
Instead of answering, he lets out a loud laugh, which resounds throughout the entire prison. Why was he laughing? Did I say anything funny? I thought to myself. "You want me to join you?" He asked after he stopped laughing.
"Yes. Join me and fight against Draven," I said.
"That is the most stupid joke I've ever heard. What made you think I'd want to join you?" He asked. I could sense the annoyance in his voice. He didn't allow me to give him a reply.
"Keep whatever you had to say to yourself. I don't want to hear it. My reply is no. If I wanted to betray my pack, why would I still be here?" he shook his head.
"How did they make such a dummy like you, Alpha?" My anger flared up. I could no longer keep it in check. It was one thing to reject me; it was another to insult me. I rushed into the cell, picked him up from the ground, and pushed him up the wall.
I raised my hands. My crawls have elongated by now. He held my gaze, but I couldn't sense any fear from him, and that made me more angry. "You know I could rip off your head right now," I said.
"Then what's stopping you?" he asked, provoking me. I lifted my hands in the air, ready to snap off his head. But when it got closer to his neck, I stopped. He didn't flinch or blink. That was when I realised that he truly wasn't afraid of death.
Another idea struck me. I would break his soul first before killing him. Since he has refused to join hands with me and attack his pack, then so be it. I released his neck, and he fell to the floor. I stepped out of the cell.
"Since you've chosen death over life, I have no problem with you. I'll give you what you want, but first, I'll give you the honour of allowing you to see your Alpha's dead body," I said before walking away.
I walked straight to my room, trying hard not to dwell on what just happened. Maddy one of my precious maid was standing inside my room. "I've been waiting for you," she said, walking to me.
She was wearing a pair of trousers and an orange shirt. My eyes seized her body before I moved to take my gun and the silver bullet from my wardrobe. "I heard you would be going to fight; I wanted to see you before you leave," she said, and I smiled.
She was the only girl I liked and trusted. "Yes. Wish me luck," I said, coming to stand in front of her.
"You don't need luck. You always win because you are the strongest Alpha." I smiled. Maddy truly knew how to warm my heart.
I hugged her tightly and kissed her on the head before stepping out. I was going to kill Draven and that his stupid Luna. As I left, I could already imagine the numerous ways I could torture them.
