Chapter 67 The attack

Chapter 67 The attack
Thallyne's POV

Luther’s wolf also moved at the same time, there was a blur of grey as he slammed into one of the incoming rogues. Everything after became a blur, the ground shook, various claws tore through fur causing blood to splatter all over, while the sound of wolves fighting filled the air.
My heart was beating wildly in my chest.
I had never seen a wolf fight like this, most of the ones I've experienced were mostly during sparring. It was usually intended but none of them had a genuine intent to kill.
As Lucas latched his jaw around one of the rouges that attacked us, I grabbed onto his fur tighter, pushing my body low against his back to prevent myself from falling off. He latched his jaws around the rogue’s shoulder, pulled it out of its shock and threw it aside like it didn't weigh anything.
A wolf howl filled the clearing, it was one filled with pain.
Another rogue lunged from the side and Lucas turned around sharply but he moved too fast so I lost my grip on him and my balance slipped. “No—!” I cried out as my fingers completely lost their grip on him.
For one that one second it felt like I weighed nothing, I was light as a feather and moved with the wind before my body slammed into the ground. The impact knocked my breath out of me and air rushed out of my lungs as I rolled across the dirt and leaves, pain shooting through my shoulder.
I hissed in pain , and suddenly struggled to sit up. The fight was still ongoing a few feet away and Lucas had pinned another rogue beneath his jaws while Luther tore a hole into the last one. Their howls echoed through the trees as they fought ferociously, but because of the fight they hadn’t noticed yet.
They hadn't noticed that I had fallen and I was just a few feet away. ‘please please don't look.’ I inwardly prayed, hoping that the two other wolves who had not joined the fight didn't notice but unfortunately, luck wasn't on my side.
A low growl that came from behind me made my blood freeze.
I slowly turned my head, whimpering softly as I took in the sight of them.
The two men were smiling at me while they stared directly at me with their yellow eyes that were filled with hunger and lust.
A cold chill ran down my spine, fear froze me in a spot so bad that my hands froze and began to shake. “Don't come any closer..” I forced myself to speak, not that it would stop them.
True to my thoughts, they glanced at each other and began to laugh. “Brother what do we have here? This princess needs us to come to her rescue.”
“But who would rescue her first?” They shared a similar smirk that caused dread to fill me.
“Do you think she's up for the chase? Whoever catches her gets to claim her, what do you think?”
Instead of responding, the other one sniffed the air. “She smells different.”
The other guy did the same and twitched his nose. “She smells like us but different at the same time. Like a shifter but a mortal at the same time.”
They already began to suspect thatI couldn’t shift. One of them drew closer to me, his lips pulling back to reveal blood-stained teeth. While the other man circled around me slowly, cutting off my chances of escape.
I pushed myself backward, moving backwards across the dirt with my eyes darting at both of them and, my heart beating heavily against my ribs. “Stay back…” I whispered even though my voice trembled.
They didn’t bother to listen to me.
The first rogue lunged at me, shifting midair into his wolf that looked extremely ugly with patches of dirty fur around him, his claws were dirty. I screamed at his shift, suddenly scrambled to my feet, and turned to run—to get away from them but pain shot through my ankle causing me to stumble.
Before I could regain my footing, the second man had shifted to his wolf form and he slammed into me from behind, knocking me back to the ground.
My head spun at the sudden action.
One of them grabbed the sleeve of my shirt in its jaws, and it began to drag me across the forest floor. Branches scratched my skin, causing me to bleed as panic filled every part of me. “Lucas!” I screamed out, out of pain and fear.
I was scared.
Scared of what they might do to me.
Scared that I might never get to see Axel again.
I should have stayed back at the pack. Unfortunately I know it is the last line of a fool.
The rogue pulling me tightened its teeth on my shirt, its growl filled the air as the second one ran beside us, howling into the air as if it was eager to devour me the moment they got to their hideout.
They were taking me away but Lucas and Luther were still locked in battle.
“Luther!” I screamed out, for a moment, I saw him turn his wolf head around to look at me, before he could even take a step away from the battle, another wolf blocked and prevented him.
Panic filled my chest, it was so bad that I could barely breathe. Dark spots began to dance before my eyes.
No!
I can't pass out here and now.
I bit my tongue and it drew blood. The pain from my action caused my brain to wake up. “Lucas!” I screamed again, my voice had begun to crack.
The wolf beside the one dragging me snapped its jaws close to my face, it splattered on my face but I understood what he meant. He was giving me a clear warning.
The sounds of Lucas and Luther fighting still echoed behind us— the sound of unfamiliar growls, bodies colliding with one another, and the sound of teeth tearing into flesh—but they were too far to come to to my rescue
The rogue pulling me with its teeth suddenly stopped, its ears twitched and he raised his snort up to sniff the air. The wolf took a defensive stance and I instantly controlled my breathing, my heart pounding in anticipation. The other wolf froze too, his eyes scanning through the trees, letting out warning growls.
Another low growl came through the trees ahead of us. It didn't sound like Lucas or Luther, besides the sound of the fight behind us proved that they were still occupied. And this growl was deeper….more threatening
Both rogues lifted their heads at the same time towards one direction, their bodies became tense. I felt it too, the intense pressure in the air, it was thick and almost suffocating. An aura of pure power that made my heart skip two beats.
Someone more powerful had appeared.
Now the tables had turned and within me, I hoped that he was able to overpower these wolves.
From the trees ahead of us, a huge black wolf stepped out of the shadows, it was very calm with its steps, his fur was dark but he blended into the forest around us, his eyes… his eyes glowed gold. His wolf form was enormous, bigger than Lucas and Luther, and the moment he appeared, the entire forest seemed to become silent.
The rogue dragging me quickly released my sleeve, both wolves growled at the dark wolf, but the black wolf didn’t flinch. He walked forward slowly, like he was teasing them. From his appearance alone, I could see that the two wolves were no match for him
… And they knew it too.
The two rogues attacked together and what happened next took just mere seconds. The black wolf moved faster than my eyes could take in. One moment he was standing still, the next he was in between them.
What followed was a snap. And a loud crack.
The first rogue didn’t get the chance to howl before the stranger’s jaws clamped around its throat and ripped it out. The rouges bones shattered loudly as its almost lifeless body was tossed aside.
The second rogue could barely turn around to escape before the black wolf slammed into it. The black wolf’s claws pinned the rogue down while his jaws tore out its neck. Blood splattered the leaves as the body went limp beneath him.
Silence filled the clearing.
My heart was beating so loudly that I thought it might burst out of my chest. The stranger slowly lifted his head, blood dripped from his muzzle as his glowing eyes turned toward me.
I froze.
Then he stepped towards me.
One step.
Two steps.
Until it was standing close to me, his golden eyes glanced at me as if it was making sure I was unharmed. It growled softly before doing something that stunned me.
