Chapter 66 Are you my wolf?

Chapter 66 Are you my wolf?
Thallyne's POV

Hesitation built within me, just a step out of the pack boundary, It felt as if I had lost a lot.
‘Go back.’ A soft but weary voice said in my mind, before I could comprehend who it was, the presence had completely disappeared.
Was that my wolf? I had an irking that it was my wolf but before I could give it much thought, I heard the cracking and the reshaping of bones and soon, where Lucas stood was a giant brown wolf with a few spots of gold scattered on its fur.
The sight scared me for a moment, mainly because I wasn't used to seeing a lot of people in their wolf forms so I wasn't very familiar with it. Probably noticing my discomfort, the wolf slowly walked towards me, it laid down and nuzzled my leg, its eyes were calm and clear of any malicious intent. We both stared at one another.
“Are you ready to go?” Luther's voice broke the silence, snapping me back to reality.
I blushed in embarrassment as I noticed how Luther and Jake also had their gaze fixed on me. “Yeah, I'm ready.” I forced out a smile, reaching out my hand to the wolf.
Despite knowing it was Lucas, I still had a hidden fear so when I touched its fur, I ran my hand through it a few times to reassure myself. As the fear within me dissipated, I climbed over the wolf and it suddenly stood on all fours. I yelped a bit at the sudden movement.
Luther broke into laughter, “Oh that was silly. You should have seen your face-” he would have kept talking if not for Beta Jake growling at him. “Sorry.” He mumbled.
“It's alright. Would you be riding with me-”
Beta Jake growled again. “No!” He sternly said.
“But why?” Luther asked with a puzzled look on his face, we both shared a glance and realized that we both bore the same expression on our faces. Even the wolf tilted his head to the side, lightly growling.
“It's enough that you are riding a different male, adding another one to the mix is what I'm not comfortable with.” He responded with a stoic expression but I ended up getting confused by what he meant.
Luther and I shared another glance, there was no surprise to see the same expression on the other's face. “Well, even if I wanted to, Lucas would never let me ride him.”
Beta Jake coughed lightly, I noticed him trying to suppress a smile on his face. “I completely understand…But I’m sure you’ll definitely let him ride you.”
Lucas suddenly growled at him…
Ignorant Luther huffed lightly. “Of course, I can let him do that any time.”
It took a few minutes for it to register in my mind, this time it was my turn to laugh. I watched Luther's face turn to a lovely shade of purple. “No no no, that's not what I meant. You can't really think of it that way. Don't tell me you believe what he says…”
“It's not so far fetched, you guys are tethered to the hip.” I shrugged.
This is my chance at payback and I wasn't going to let it pass
“Like two peas in a pod,” Beta Jake sarcastically said. “With this new information, I'm sure my boss' mind would be at rest.”
“What do you mean?” The color on Luther's face drained away quickly. “Nobody will be riding anyone.”
“Don't forget to invite us to the ceremony.” Beta Jake added, wearing a huge grin on his face. He was certainly enjoying this.
Perhaps Luther didn't have any more words to refute what he said or he was simply embarrassed, so he just shifted to his wolf form which was a bit smaller than that of Lucas, and had grey fur.
“One week.” Beta Jake said as they broke into a run simultaneously.
I clutched a handful of fur, tightly holding on to the clothes while Lucas ran in his top speed, the trees went by in a blur, the wind blowing past us, with my hair flying behind me.
It felt as if I was flying.
I closed my eyes, took a deep breath to savor the feeling of freedom. Ever since I learnt to recognize things in the pack, I don't think I've ever had the chance to leave, not even for a moment. Leaving without permission would result in being punished and worse, being branded as a traitor and banished.
…Banishment means being left to the wild, becoming a rogue. And even if you were in trouble, no one from your previous pack would come to your rescue unless it's of their own free will and that might also get them punished…resulting in a very messy situation.
Thinking about this made me realize how much Axel cared about me, being the leader of my pack, he could have easily commanded me not to step a foot out of the pack but then, he simply let me go..
..even though it was for a few days.
I didn't know how much time had passed, Lucas and Luther were still running and neither of them stopped to rest or to get a drink. All of a sudden, they pulled to a stop.
I had an ominous feeling at this moment, looking around the surroundings, I deduced that this wasn't their pack, neither was it someone else's territory. We were standing on a neutral ground
A neutral ground which might be a den of rougues… and yeah I was correct.
Lucas and Luther’s wolf form stood back to back, to cover one another as I spotted a few men come out from the trees, they had a sick smile on their faces, they broke into laughter as they openly leered at me.
“Look boys, what do we have here?” The one who I suspected to be their leader, winked at me before licking his lips. He wore tattered clothes, his hair was matted with a strange dark red color, something I suspected to be blood. He had a web scar on one side of his face and a menacing appearance.
“Yess Boss, it's been a long time since we got laid.” One of them smiled at me, revealing his dirty teeth.
“The universe must have heard our cries and chosen to surprise us with a woman to warm our beds.” Another one echoed.
They were six in number and they started laughing, making rude comments. Instinctively, my hand tightened around Axel's clothes. I even took a whiff of it, hoping it would calm down the tension I was feeling.
“Come on little lady, let my brothers and I take care of you.” To prove his points, he began to walk towards us, with a huge grin as if Christmas had come early.
Lucas suddenly released a load growl, halting him halfway. The leader's smile morphed into a frown, “Are you going to stop us? You are on no man's land and there are only two of you, and six of us. What can you possibly do?”
Lucas didn't stop growling, he took up a fighting stance. It was clear that there was going to be a fight, one part of me was confident that Lucas might come out victorious but the odds were really against him here. I was worried for my friends, I didn't want to be the cause of their deaths.
‘If Axel was here..” That mysterious voice in my head said again and sighed in the end. It was very faint but I could still feel her presence.
“Are you my wolf?” I asked inwardly.
“”Why did you leave?” She replied with a question of hers. It was as if she didn't hear my question.. then she faded to the background once again- but this time, I could feel her.
A loud growl broke me out of my thoughts, reminding me of the situation we were in. Out of the six men, four of them had morphed to their wolf form, while the remaining two had their eyes fixed on me.
Their stratagem was clear in an instant, they intended to battle Lucas and Luther and snatch me away during the commotion.
“You have to hang on tight?” I heard Luther's voice in my head, I was shocked by this. I tilted my head to look at him but he was focused on the two guys approaching him.
“How can you do that?” I whispered, knowing he could hear me.
“Haha,” he chuckled in my head. “My wolf is the one in charge and I tried to mindlink you and guess what, it works.”
“Just trust us. We'll get out of here safely.”
The wind rushed past my face as I clung desperately to Lucas’s thick fur, my fingers tightly held the fur around his neck. His wolf body moved with terrifying speed, the four rogue wolves opposite us, increased their pace..Lucas let out a loud growl that reverberated through the clearing
