Chapter 65 Don't go

Chapter 65 Don't go
Thallyne's POV

The next morning, my body felt really sore as if I had indulged in hours of pleasure, and despite how I tried to tempt Axel, his restraints were still out of this world- he still didn't let us go past the final steps but I knew within me that if he chosen to mark me and claim me as his, I would have been tempted to stay behind with him.
As I opened my eyes, I was laying next to him, his brows furrowed in his sleep making me wonder what he might be dreaming of but one thing for sure- it wasn't a good dream.
Thinking he was in a deep sleep state, I slowly got out of bed, my eyes glanced at the curtains, it was still dark outside meaning it wasn't dawn yet. I crept to his wardrobe, picking jeans that I had placed there in advance and a couple of his shirts. I had taken a shower the night before, but I sniffed myself a few times for good measure.
I wasn't sure how long I might be away, but I needed something to remember him by. “Pink-” A groan came from him, halting my steps midway. “Don't go.”
I slowly turned around, upon seeing that he was still asleep. He had been dreaming of me leaving and he didn't want that. I slowly let out the breath that I was holding. “I’m sorry.” I mumbled before stepping out of the room, slowly shutting the door behind me.
I jumped in shock as I came face to face with Jake outside the door, gone was his playful and jovial expression. He looked grim. “Are you ready to leave yet?” His voice was cold and unfeeling. He didn't wait for my response before spraying something all over me. I already knew what it was and its effect but he was kind enough not spray anything over the clothes, infact, he pretended like he didn't see them
I couldn't muster an answer, only nodding.
“Okay. I'll accompany you to the pack boundary.” With that said, he simply turned around and began to walk towards the stairs. “They are waiting at the boundary.”
I didn't respond, only following behind him, clutching the clothes tightly, I even glanced at Axel's bedroom door, feeling more reluctant by the second.
This is what you need Thallyne.
Think about your wolf, if you get her back, he won't have any excuses about not marking.
That resolve cleared all the guilt in my mind, steeling my resolve. “I’m sorry.” I finally said as soon as we got out of the building, I caught a few glimpse of some wolves darting into the woods, they must be the new shift of guards. It was still dark but thanks to our enhanced abilities, it's easy to move around in the dark.
“Why?” His voice was still indifferent.
“I know you think I'm doing the wrong thing-
“I don't think, I know that for sure.” He interrupted me
“I'm not wrong for leaving but you need to understand that this is the only way for me to get her back.”
“Is it?”
“Yes!” I nodded in agreement.
“Then go. He didn't try to convince you further. Don't expect some validation from me so you could feel better about what you are doing.” As we walked, we were getting closer to the pack boundary.
That stung
But I didn't think of it that way. I frowned, thinking of what I could say to refute his words. “That is not true.” I mumbled out after a while.
He chuckled at my response, his laugh was cold and harsh. “You think. You don't know what you stand to lose yet, good luck when your choice comes to bite you in the arse.”
There was a unanimous silence between us, no more words were shared as we crossed into another path, I was shocked to run into the person I last expected to see.
Kael.
The surprise on his face proved that he wasn't there for me and was equally surprised to see me. “Where are you going?” He asked in a straightforward manner but not before bowing at Jake.
Beta Jake waved his hand casually, and stood by the side. “You have five minutes to say your goodbyes.”
“I have to go somewhere for a short while.” I responded.
“Are you sure you're not being banished, if that's what it is, I could try to speak to the alpha so he could lower-”
On the side, Beta Jake scoffed lightly, with his hearing, it was clear that he must have involuntarily overheard what Kael had said.
“I am not being banished, I'm just going to one of the surrounding packs. I will be back soon.” I smiled at him, feeling warm on the inside at his concern for me
“That's good to know. I hope you are no longer mad at me?” He rubbed the back of head, avoiding my gaze.
I recalled the last time we met, when I had abruptly left without listening to his explanation and this created a reason for me to run into that Alpha, the beginning of my nightmares.
Thinking about that Alpha, I forgot to ask what Axel would do to him. Well, it might not be a heavy punishment. Probably a warning then he'll be let off
But boy was I wrong, but it was later I would realize how shallow my opinion of Axel had become…. But then that's a story for another day.
I smiled at Kael. “I'm no longer mad at you. Tell Blair, I'll come to visit her whenever I return.” I was glad that he didn't ask about the clothes I was clutching.
“It's alright,”
“Time's up, so unless you have changed your mind, you better get moving.” Beta Jake called out from the side and began to walk over to us.
I offered Kael an apologetic smile. It was obvious Beta Jake was mad at me that's why he's been treating me coldly, a huge contrast to how he usually treated me.
“Sorry for keeping you waiting. Do you mind if I hug you?”
“It's fine.” As soon as those words fell out of my mouth, he immediately pulled me closer, hugging me tightly. “Uhh, that's alright.” I pulled away after a few seconds. Being around him made me feel like I was a cheating housewife since I clearly knew how Axel felt about him.
We continued on the path we were away, and while we were out of earshot, I asked Jake. “Could you not tell Axel?”
“About what? The fact that you already have someone fawning over you or the part where he hugged you like he was parting with his lover?”
“The part where we hugged, I know Axel would get mad so I'm worried that-”
“You have bigger things to worry about, so I'll advise you to hurry up and get back in time. But in the end, it's just friendly advice from me because you would not like to see him in his bloodthirsty state. In that state, he only knows how to kill and can't be stopped.”
I knew he was referring to Axel, one part of me was curious to ask if the rumors about him were true.
“So if you truly care about your friends, you'll return to prevent death from coming to their pack,” At the end of his words, he turned to look at me and I saw a small smirk on his lips, like he was reminiscing about the past. “Or I wouldn't mind joining him on the rampage cause he won't let go of you easily.”
A shiver ran down my spine, I gulped down. “Yes, I will return very soon. I promise.”
“Very good.” His signature smile returned, but it wasn't as warm as it appeared to be on the surface.
We arrived at the boundary, and I could already see Luther and Lucas waiting. As soon as Luther saw me, he smiled but he didn't come over. I noticed that he was beyond the boundary line so unless he was invited in, trespassing would be considered a challenge to Axel.
“How are you? I hope he didn't try-”
“You think the boss is so petty. She is not a caged bird, she is allowed to go wherever she wants since he's powerful enough to bring her back anytime.” Jake retorted.
“Come on, we have to leave.” Lucas stretched out his hand to me.
I took a deep breath before taking it.
This is it.
As soon as I stepped over the boundary line, I felt something leave me, it made me really sad to the point of tears then all of a sudden- a pained howl resounded through the woods….
“That's him right?” I asked no one in particular but their silent response was enough to answer.
…It made me want to turn around and return to the comfort of his arms.
