Chapter 60 Few broken bones
Chapter 60 Few broken bones
AXEL'S POV
What was only a few minutes felt like hours, Lucas and I sat down in the living room, each lost in his own thoughts as we waited for Luther to step out with his diagnosis which would in turn determine what I would do to Dexter.
Speaking of him, he was kneeling in the center of the room, his back arched and his forehead touched the ground, he was snivelling what seemed like an apology cause he had lost a lot of teeth thanks to Lucas assault. This was the most humiliating position for an alpha, having to submit completely to an Alpha strips you of your right to lead.
Even though another Alpha was more powerful, it was necessary to grow a spine, pick fights you could easily win or back down when you are playing a losing game.
Once to many times, I stood up, heading towards the guest room but Lucas would always get up after me and persuade me to wait longer. It wasn't that I didn't trust Luther but I was very uncomfortable leaving her alone with another male and my only solace was that Jake was also present, he was an amazing fighter and should be able to stand his ground if anything went south.
After a long time, Luther came out of the hallway, he looked drained and weary. “She is alright now, she only suffered some mental trauma, with time she should be able to get out of it.”
“Good. When would she regain consciousness?” I glanced at the direction of the room, wanting to get behind those closed doors and hold Thallyne within my arms.
“Very soon, it could take a few minutes or few hours.” Luther said with strong reassurance.
Meanwhile, Jake stood to the side with a strange expression on his face, like he had seen a ghost or something unusual, he tried to speak up a few times but eventually settled to not say anything.
I could ask him about it later.
“What are you going to do about this incident?” Luther suddenly asked, his question was directed towardß me.
I could sense the pain coming from his voice. “Pardon?” I suddenly turned to face him, not expecting the question from him.
“This hasn't happened once, this is the second time this is happening, what he means is- what are you planning to do to ensure that this never happens again?” Lucas shot a glare towards Luther and paraphrased the question with a smile on his face.
“I don't think that should be of any concern to him.”
“Boss-” Jake called out all of a sudden but he kept quiet again.
“Why shouldn't it be any of my concern?” The tone of his voice was increasing with every word he said, and even though he had done me a favor, I can't tolerate his sudden actions.
“Because this is my pack, and I get to decide what must be done.” I answered him, turning to look at Lucas. “We might be allies but it doesn't mean that we get to involve ourselves in the other parties decisions making or question how they run their pack.”
“I apologize for his words, Alpha Axel.” Lucas tilted his head a bit to the side as a sign of respect.
Even though I was still mad, as the apology come from Lucas, I could only choose to let it go. “Fine. I still have to thank you for coming to her rescue.”
“We are allies, it's what we must do and if you were in our position, I believe that you would have done the same.”
The thick tension in the air reduced by a lot a the change of topic. “You are right, it's not something I would turn a blind eye to.”
“Young Alpha Lucas, I have a presumptuous request, I hope you can help me out with it.” Jake suddenly asked with a lot of hesitation on his face.
“As long as it's not beyond our abilities, I would do my best to help you.” Lucas reverted to his cordial smile, that made people believe that he was their friend and allow them let down their guards.
“It's actually the expertise of your friend I need-” Jake forced out a smile, he wasn't use it being on the requesting side.
All attention fell on Luther, who was taking in deep breaths. It was obvious that Lucas would allow him to decide on his own.
“What do you need my help with?” Luther begrudgingly responded.
“Well, you see…. The young alpha was punished,” Jake eyes met mine, but I didn't give any indication for him to stop speaking so he continued. “And you could say the punishment was well deserved but a bit extreme-”
I scoffed lightly. “You think? That is light compared to what he had in mind.” I didn't say anymore after that, besides, I don't necessarily have to explain myself or justify my actions.
“In short, Drary is in a very precarious state at the moment and I'm hoping that you could save him.”
“Am I allowed to say no?” Luther gave a lazy, cheshire smile.
“No one would blame you if you do.” I paced around the living room, glancing a few times at the walkway leading to the guest room. I hope she would be fine.
“Do you think she would hate us, it's our fault that this bastard was on the pack!” My wolf was raging within me but he was still concerned about Thallyne.
“It's going to take a lot of apology but I don't know if she'll have us after what happened.”
I was bearing a intense feeling of guilt within me.
“It's all your fault, if you had listened to me and claimed when when you did, that bastard wouldn't have the audacity to speak in her presence not to talk of trying to assault her.”
Yeah. I can't deny that I didn't for once think about that while I was waiting.
“It's my fault.” I let out a deep breath. “but have you thought of the consequences that comes with us mating and claiming her? Her wolf is still dormant!”
“What we need to worry our selves with us figuring whom it was tha healed her, then asking them to completely do it…”
Right.
I could sacrifice a lot of things to ensure that Thallyne is completely hale and healthy.
“We just have to wait for her to wake up, then we can only hope that she wants to see us. And if she does, we only need to convince her to give up the names.”
“We can only hope.”
“Boss-”
The tension in the room had thickened so much tha a knife could slice through it. I turned to see Luther red faced with his fist clenched, Lucas only rested on a pillar with his eyes closed, indifferent to whatever was happening, while Jake had his usual cocky smirk on his face, one that could piss anyone off till no end. Both Luther and Jake stared at each other, their eyes locked in what seemed like a staring contest.
“What's going on here? If you want to spar it out, there is an arena you could use, I don't want anyone destroying my living room.”
With a slow chuckle coming from him, Lucas opened his eyes. “Alpha Axel, Beta Jake here hopes that Luther could try to save your son and I could say, he's been pretty convincing.”
With the smirk on his face, I suspected that Jake must have threatened them. “ What did you do?”
“I only said that sometimes, alliance would require more than just words. Sometimes, hostages are needed and I promised that he would be well treated here.” Jake flashed a grin in Luther's direction.
“Don't tell me that you have decided to pick him?” I raised an eyebrow in his direction.
“He's not so bad looking so he'll do,” Jake broke into laughter at the end of his words. Then he directed his question to Luther. “What do you think? Are you willing to stay here with me?”
Lucas and Luther shared a confused glance.
“I promise to take good care of you, what do you think?” Jake winked at him.
“Hell no! I agree to treat that prat but let it be known that I was coerced into doing this.” Even though they had the best training and seemed very smart and cautious, he was still manipulated by Jake.
“It doesn't sound as bad as you are making it seem, so don't look so aggrieved.”
“Whatever, where is the brat? Let him come here and recognize whom would be saving him.” Luther crossed his arms and gloated.
I'm sure if Drary was conscious, he would definitely refuse treatment from Luther. “I'm afraid he won't be able to walk here.” The sides of my lips curved up a bit.
“Why?” He and Lucas shared another look.
“You'll be surprised. It's just a few broken bones”
