Chapter 59 Prepare for war

Chapter 59 Prepare for war
AXEL'S POV
I moved without realizing it, allowing my wolf to take over my body, with him in charge he could find my scent much faster. I heard Jake calling out to me in the background but I ignored him. “Why do you always disappear at odd times?” I asked my wolf but he didn't respond, instead he ran at my best speed in human form, stopped at the entrance.
“Alpha!” Some of the maids greeted me, bowing their heads but I ignored them
My body turned away from the maid's quarters and towards the main pack house. I pulled the door open, almost breaking it from the hinges. Everyone in the room froze, they bowed their heads in submission and simultaneously called out. “Alpha.”
My eyes canned through the room, taking account of everyone present but there was no Thallyne. “Stay here, and act as usual as if you didn't see anything. And nobody is allowed to follow me.” My wolf used my authority as alpha to command them.
Everyone within the hearing range fell under my command. They bowed their heads once more. “Yes Alpha.”
As soon as I left, the room resumed with the usual vigour it had before I ever stepped in. I followed the stairs which had Thallyne's scent on it. I followed it until I got to the third floor, I didn't waste my time searching all the rooms, my wolf only led me to where Thallyne's scent was the strongest, it was mixed with recent scents that I recognized.
The young alpha of Moonmist and his friend.
I wasn't prepared for the sight I saw.
The room was already opened, pieces of it were scattered around, Lucas was pummeling someone, whom I recognize as Alpha Dexter from his scent. While Thallyne was sitting on the ground with Luther hugging her while she cried into his shoulder.
I growled at this sight.
The both of them suddenly pulled apart, more like it was Thallyne who pulled away from him, she immediately wiped her eyes. “Axel-” Her voice was shaky and soft. From one look at her, and Alpha Dexter being beaten up, I was able to piece two and two together.
I recalled how Alpha Dexter claimed he found someone who he wanted as his chosen mate… but that person was???
Thallyne?
It couldn't be her… Right?
I wanted badly not to believe it but the sight before me was enough proof.
I suppressed the anger I felt, slowly walking into the room. My wolf relinquished all control back to me. A few steps away from her, Luther suddenly stood up and blocked her with his body. “Alpha Axel, could you please not come any closer, Thallyne here…” He was thinking of the right words to say. “She is not in the right headspace, and you might scare her further.
I know I was supposed to get angry but the thought that he was trying to protect my mate canceled that out. “Don't worry, she-” I took another step forward
He interrupted me, taking on a defensive stance. “I’m sorry for disrespecting you Alpha but Thallyne is not at fault and I would do anything to protect her.”
“And why do you think that I would try to hurt her?” I stopped moving, and glanced at Pink who was staring into the abyss, she was physically present, mentally…. Not so much.
I sighed, knowing that I could easily swat this kid to death but I couldn't since he was part of the reason why Pink was safe… I owe him one so not killing him for his disrespect is enough to pay that off.
There was a standoff between us, me waiting and Luther blocking my view of Thallyne. At this moment, Lucas stood up. “Luther stood down, he won't hurt her.”
Luther glanced at me and then at Lucas before nodding. “Okay.” He stepped to the side but he still stared at me warily.
I squatted before Thallyne, but she barely registered my presence. I pulled her into a hug and slowly pulled her up, raising her into a princess carry. Her face subconsciously found the crook of my neck, I softly emitted a calming pheromone which would sooth her nerves. She still didn't say anything, only sighed and closed her unfocused eyes. Her soft breathing indicated that she had fallen asleep.
I stared at Lucas, tilted my head in acknowledgment, “Thank you for this.”
If Jake had been present, he would have been shocked. I barely said thank you cause I always found a means to get what I wanted without needing other's help so the number of people I thanked every month could be counted on one hand
This time, he had rescued the one person that had become the most important thing in my life so he deserved it.
Lucas nodded once, I turned around and took a secret back entrance out of the pack house. It led to a very remote path which linked the two packhouses. When I arrived at the private pack house, Jake was standing in the front, pacing around.
“Is he dead yet?”I asked him as I arrived before his line of sight.
“Thank goddess. He isn't.”
“So why are you pacing around?” I walked past him.
“I was so worried that you would kill someone-”
“I will but not yet.”
“What happened to Miss Thallyne?” He had genuine confusion on his face. His question reminded me of the ordeal Thallyne must have passed.
“She was attacked by Alpha Dexter,” Someone responded from behind me. Lucas was strolling while Luther dragged Dexter's battered body along.
“What?! How could that happen? Is she-” He stopped his question midway but his eyes conveyed what he wanted to say.
“She is fine, we arrived in time.” Luther dropped the leg he had been pulling, took out a napkin and wiped his hands, then he dropped the napkin on the body, and before he turned around, I caught a glimpse of the crazy expression that flashed on his face.
These two. They hide more than they show.
‘Whether or not I would regret being in an alliance with them was something I would worry about another day’… for now… my eyes fell on Thallyne's sleeping face.
She is more important.
“Get the doctor.” I ordered Jake as I stepped into the building. I took a deep breath, the scents of the visitors were stale, meaning that everyone else but these two and the body behind me were gone
“No!” Luther ran ahead of me. “You don't need to call a doctor.”
“Why?” I raised an eyebrow at this. I could take his disrespect once but if he tried to prevent Pink from getting the help she needed, I would disregard the fact that he's a visitor on my territory.
“Luther is a healer, he would be able to check her injuries,” Lucas answered on his behalf. “ He doesn't mean to disrespect you.”
I nodded, choosing to believe. “Sure, as long as she gets better.” I wasn't comfortable letting anyone other than Thallyne into my room, so I led them to a guest room on the first floor, which was spotless and had been cleaned recently.
I carefully laid Thallyne on the bed, placed a kiss on her forehead but froze when a growl came from Lucas and Luther simultaneously.
Slowly turning around, I questioned them. “What do you mean?”
“I'm sorry Alpha Axel, we just didn't expect that you showed that much care to your pack members.” Lucas smiled as he explained.
“Just check her.” I chose not to comment on his response, I stepped away from Pink's side, allowing Luther to take over. When he simply placed his fingers on her wrist, a growl was released from me, and the pressure of my aura filled the room.
“Boss!” Jake rushed to my side. “He is only trying to check her pulse, he won't be able to treat her if he can't determine the extent of her injuries.”
“Yes, Alpha Axel. Why don't we step out and give him some room? Beta Jake can stay here to watch him in your place,” Despite the immense pressure, Lucas managed to say. “Besides, there is still a piece of trash to deal with.”
With that, I turned around and stepped out of the room, the pressure in the room completely disappeared with my absence. “Watch him, if he does anything strange. Kill him.” I ordered Jake using our private mindlink.
Jake bowed towards my direction. “Yes Boss.”
I didn't say anything as I walked through the hallway back to the living room, where Dexter half dead form laid.
“Have you decided what you want to do with him yet?” Lucas stood behind me, breaking the silence in the room.
“Not yet. I'm hoping that Pink would decide that, if not, it would be intense torture till death. Prepare your warriors, I'm taking over another territory in a few days.”
