Chapter 55 That's a good idea

Chapter 55 That's a good idea
Thallyne's POV
The next time I woke up, I didn't immediately open my eyes as there was an ongoing argument in the room between two of my most familiar people. Lucas and Luther. Within me, I was so glad that they hadn't left yet… and as expected, the reason for their argument is me.
“What do you mean by that, Lucas, she was attacked in her own pack but you say we should leave her? No Fucking Way!” Luther's voice was colder, not what I was used to hearing.
“Listen here, in the end it's Thallyne's choice. We can't just take her out of here without her permission, we could start a war and I've just been able to barely win Alpha Axel's trust.” Lucas tried to make him see reason but Luther didn't seem like he was going to back down soon.
“I understand that he's your role model and all but let's think about Thallyne here, we were also in the pack but we still couldn't protect her.”
“I think you are attaching too much importance into this situation here, this is her pack, her home, her family. This wouldn't have happened if the alliance meeting wasn't called, so the best thing we can do here is find out who tried to hurt her.”
“I am so sure that it would be Alpha Dexter, he was so fixated on the fact that he had chosen someone from this pack as his mate. What makes you think that it won't be him? Did he go meet Alpha Axel yet with his so-called mate?” Luther inquired.
“Not sure, I could feel his anger when I approached the building. I was forced to back off, cause the last thing I wanted was to piss him even more.”
“So we can only wait till he calms down.” Luther groaned, then the coldness in his voice dropped by a lot. “Lucas, are you so sure that we can't take her away?”
“Not unless you want to start a war, let's leave that decision for Thallyne to make. Why are you so bothered? You have never treated anyone else like her.”
“She reminds me of my younger sister, of the time that I couldn't rescue her and then I never found her again… I believe that if she survived and is alive, she might have been Thallyne's age or younger so you can say I'm trying to do right this time.”
I could feel the sadness in Luther's voice and could only imagine the look on his face. I wanted nothing more at this moment to pull him into my arms and console him, tell him that it wasn't his fault, that he was just a kid.
“Is that why you are doing everything to save her and even rescue her dormant wolf from dissipating?”
What
Luther was doing that!
Which means that Axel was right.
“Yes and I don't regret it. If it happens again, I'll definitely do the same thing.” I could feel their gaze fall on my barely awake form on the bed, good thing my back was facing them or they might have noticed that I had woken up.
“Luther, you have a gift and it's up to you to decide how you want to use it but I don't want you getting your hopes up or getting hurt. I would never forgive you for that.”
“Don't worry, I know what I am doing. I won't go beyond my limits. I promise.”
I slowly opened my eyes to adjust to the brightness of the cabin. “Wat-” my voice was hoarse as I called out to them as I slowly sat up.
A glass of cool water was quickly placed on my dry lips, being held by Luther. Looking into his eyes, I could see the effect in his eyes, not the one that was meant for a lover, one that was meant for family …his sister. He is treating me like his sister.
I gulped down the water greedily to quench my thirst. Once it was all gone, the glass was taken away. “How are you feeling now Thallyne?”
“I'm feeling a lot better now,” I smiled at Luther and he returned, he gently patted my head. “Thank you.”
“You are welcome -” his voice was slightly hoarse, the corner of his eyes turned slightly red. “I'll be back.” He stood up, and walked out of the room.
“Would he be okay?” I couldn't help but ask Lucas who stood on the other side of the room with his hands in his pockets.
“I'm sure you heard enough-” He declared.
“What-” I tried to deny it, not wanting it to seem like I was purposely eavesdropping on their private conversation.
“I'm sure you did. I heard the change in your heartbeat and your breathing pattern.”
I nodded in response. “I am sorry, didn't mean to.”
“It's alright, I wanted you to hear enough so you can understand why he is the way he is.”
“What do you mean?” I inquired, genuinely curious in getting to know more about Luther.
“Luther was never from our pack, I found him at the entrance all injured and when he gained consciousness, he could only remember his name and the fact that he has a sister. He believes that something must have happened and that he wasn't able to save her and since then, he has been secretly wallowing in guilt. So when I found you and informed him, it reminded him of himself, that's why he saved you.” Lucas drew nearer to the bed at the end of his explanation.
“What do you mean by he has a gift? How can he heal my wolf? I was so sure that I lost her.”
“That's something only he can explain. At twenty he suddenly awakened his powers of healing, so basically, he is the best healer out there. He can naturally heal stuff and nature loves him. Nature loves us wolves but with Luther, it's like he's her favorite child.” He chuckled.
I found myself smiling. “So he is different from the rest of us?”
“Yes, but this is a secret that only me and my dad are aware of and now, that includes you so I hope that you keep this to yourself.”
Ouch!
I was already looking forward to going to Axel and telling him that Luther had saved my wolf.
“I promise not to tell anyone about his gifts.”
Lucas stared at me for a while before nodding. “ Thank you.”
As if on cue, the door opened, Luther walked in with a bunch of fruits that I've never seen around the pack. I glanced at Lucas expecting an explanation. “You remember what I said, nature loves him? This is proof.”
Luther simply rolled his eyes, his gloomy expression from earlier was completely gone. “You are just jealous of me,” he dumped a bunch of fruits in Lucas outstretched hands, took one of them and walked to the bedside. “I take it that he has told you about my gifts.”
I nodded and smiled at him. “I think it's pretty cool. With you around, I won't have to worry about getting hurt without hope of recovery.” I took the initiative to reach out my hand and stroke his hair like the way he does to me.
“You are so much like her.” He closed his eyes, let out a relaxed sigh and whispered but I heard him perfectly well.
“I’m sure she would want you to be happy.”
His eyes suddenly opened to meet mine, I found myself staring at his sapphire blue eyes that were very enchanting. “Do you think so?”
I found myself nodding, giving his hair one last pat. “I know so.”
From the side, I saw Lucas' mouth to me. ‘Thank you.’ I smiled in response.
“So tell me, what did nature decide to give you this time?” I glanced at the fruit in his hand.
I rubbed the back of his hair, smiling sheepishly. “I honestly don't know what this is.” The fruit was round and smooth, the skin was soft like it could be peeled but I wasn't very sure how it tasted but the scent of it was mouthwatering.
“Why don't we let Lucas try it out first?” Luther asked dubiously.
“Yes, that's a good idea.” I agreed with him.
“Wait, what do you mean? This isn't the first time Nature decided to surprise you, why don't you go ahead and taste it first?” Lucas suggested with hesitation written all over his face.
“Why should I do that? What if it's something I'm allergic to?”
Lucas rolled his eyes and let out a soft groan. “Like the universe would choose to give you something that might hurt you, oh come on! Why don't we Thallyne try it instead, you can save her if she's allergic to it.”
Luther gasped loudly.
To prove a point, I reached out to grab the fruit but Luther just took it out of reach.
