Chapter 53 The fool plan

Chapter 53 The fool plan
AXEL'S POV
I waited. One minute, Ten minutes. At the end of fifteen minutes, I stood up, glad that I didn't have to be here much longer. “Then I declare this meeting officially closed. You are allowed to spend the night but I suggest that you begin to take your leave at first light. I don't want you on my territory any longer than I have to tolerate you.” At this point, I didn't care if my words were harsh or they offended anyone, the worst they could do was simply break away from the alliance but most of them are too cowardly and if they do that, they risk losing their pack and their lives.
“Yes, Alpha Axel.”
“Thank you for having us.”
“Thank you so much.”
“I wish us a successful alliance.”
Even if they were mad, they could only swallow their anger, smile and give positive wishes.
As I was about to turn around to leave, my eyes fell on Alpha Dexter. “AH, Yes before I forget. I'll be expecting you and your chosen mate in my office in the morning. You are not allowed to leave yet.” I gave him a smile, which wasn't a smile at the same time and saw him visibly shudder under my gaze.
“Yes, Alpha Axel.” He could only agree with a smile.
“Good.” I strode out of the door, Jake and Drary following behind me. As soon as we stepped out the door, I was surprised to see that Gwendolyn was waiting, Drary immediately left and went to hug her.
They hugged tightly like they have been separated for years like it wasn't just a few hours that was spent for the meeting. I fought the urge to shake my head, and simply walked on.
“Do you think she is still awake?” I inquired from Jake as we walked through the narrow corridor. “Are you able to meet her? How is she? I hope she isn't really mad at me.”
“I wasn't able to meet with her because I intercepted the message from Drary instead, I'm sure she must be fine.” He remarked confidently.
“Yeah you're right. Let's head over to the office first, do some work until those Alphas are in their designated rooms, I don't want any of them waltzing around my territory like it's theirs.”
We finally reached the ground floor, and walked out of the building which was used to host major and minor events in the pack. The cold wind felt very comfortable to my skin and while under the moonlight, I felt something stir within me, something like a yearning - a feeling I recognized and haven't felt in a very long time.
“You feel it too?” I asked Jake.
“Mhm yes. I'm sure you do too.” Jake broke into a hearty laughter. “I'm so glad you were able to get him to return and it's all thanks to her.”
Truly.
It was all thanks to Thallyne.
If not for our chance encounter, I doubt that I would have known that she could bring my wolf back. And all this can also be thanks to my son, who decided to mistake a fish eye for a pearl.
And luckily for me that pearl just chose to land on my hand and I'm not planning on letting go any time soon.
I felt an urging to howl at the moon and then proceed to claiming Thallyne as mine but everything must go according to plans.
We soon got into the private building; it was a three storey building where our offices and uncountable rooms were located. Only visitors to the pack were assigned a room in this building.
As soon as I stepped in, I sensed that something was wrong. I could pick Thallyne's scent from the grand living room. It was faint but didn't hide the fact that she was present. “I guess she was missing me too.” I smiled. Without others present, it was easier to show more emotions.
“She sure was, she's been coming over almost everyday while you were busy looking for a chance to meet with you.” Jake suddenly announced.
“And how do you know all this?” I turned around and sharply asked him.
“Cause she was in office-”
As soon as he completed his words, I growled. “Why?” My anger shot into the roof and only a piece of clarity was preventing me from compelling Jake at that moment.
“It was either that or she moved around the pack and ran into alpha's that might want to claim her. I'm on your side man, I'm only looking out for the future luna.” Jake raised both hands in surrender and calmly explained.
His words and actions proved that he had truly accepted Thallyne as the future Luna, the anger in me suddenly receded. “Okay. I'm sorry.” I apologized.
“There's no need to apologize but next time you want to go all wolf on me, remember that I once had a male mate and I don't swing the normal way.”
I let out a sad sigh, my mind falling to the memories of the past. “We both lost something during that incident.”
Jake nodded, forcing out a smile. “It's alright, I'm over it. Who knows, I might have a second chance out there just waiting for me to find him.”
“If that is true, I'll do everything in my power to help you get him,” I slapped his shoulder and squeezed it reassuringly. “What do you think of Luther?”
“No fuckin way, he would never submit.” Jake's face blanched like he had just seen a ghost.
“You are right. There is something about that kid.” We both returned to my office and unfortunately, there was no scent of Thallyne in there.
I settled into my desk chair. “Why don't you get some sleep, I'll take the first watch.” While the alpha's were still in the pack, I wanted to make sure that everything was fine and this involved using my power as alpha to silently sense the presence of all the pack members.
“Sure.” He simply laid on one of the couches, placed a book over his face and soon soft snoring came from him. He looked completely defenseless and vulnerable in his sleep state but if anyone suddenly approached him, his reflex kicked in and his body would strike ... ..this was as a result of the training we both got while growing up.
I stayed up for more than half the night before Jake woke up to take over.
Morning came faster than I imagined, and the hurried knocks coming from my door pissed me off to no extent. I was just having a vivid dream of Thallyne carrying my pups.
“Sorry boss.” Jake apologized as I opened my eyes. “It's Drary, I already told him to come back about five times before dawn but it seems like he waited in the hallway.”
I ran a hand through my messy hair, rubbed the back of my neck lightly. “What does he want?”
I saw how Jake froze for a moment before answering. “Uh Boss, has anyone ever told you how sexy you sound in the morning.”
That woke my sleeping brain faster than expected, “Are you trying to flirt with me?” I glared at him. “I'm sure you want to give up on your dreams of a young man waiting for you out there.”
He chuckled. “No way. We are both 1, there is no way it's gonna work between us, unless -”
“Are you still talking about it?” I glared at him, not interested in hearing how that sentence would end.
“No, no. You are simply scary sometimes.” He shudders and goes to open the door. Brian rushed into the room, with messy hair and heavy eyebags under his eyes. “I wonder what brings you here at six in the morning, shouldn't you be training with others or doing whatever it is you do?”
“I would but I suddenly got a brilliant plan that I think would save us a lot of trouble and help out our predicament.” The glee in his eyes was something I've not seen in a while.
This caused dread to settle on my guts. My instincts were warning me that I wasn't going to like what I would hear next, so I could only take precautions. “Jake, could you do me a favor?” I mindlinked my beta.
“Suree, boss. What do you want?” Jake gave me a strange look.
“Just stand between me and Drary, I have a huge feeling I won't like what he is about to say.”
“Uh sure, boss.” Jake didn't bother to ask more questions, he just took his place in the center of the room, preventing me from having a proper view of Drary who was wearing a grin like a fool, unaware of his impending predicament.
“Now tell me, what is this idea?”
“What if I publicly claim Thallyne as my mate, this way all attention would fall on her and Gwendolyn would be safe-”
