Chapter 32 The ploy
Chapter 32 The ploy
She nodded once. “That's why you need to leave. You need to escape,” she said with urgency in her voice.
I felt lost for a moment. I didn't quite grab what she was really talking about.
How can I be a wolf? That's like a dream so impossible. I was sent out of the pack with my mother because of it.
According to the law, I was supposed to have shifted on my eighteenth birthday. But even when I clocked nineteen, I still couldn't shift.
In fact, I felt more like a human. I didn't possess any qualities that could be attributed to a werewolf. I was a full copy of my mother.
So, what was Chloe saying?
I mean it was weird though. I should have guessed at first that she was truly working for Kael.
However, questions still remain unanswered. Like for instance, why would Karl be looking for me?
“Aria!” She snapped, jerking me out of my thoughts.
I looked up at her again. My mouth moved but no words came out. I didn't even know what to say.
“You have to leave now that the Alpha isn't around.”
Shock shook my feet.
“How did you know?”
I didn't even know until recently that the Alpha had gone out unless…
She smiled. “Just take this chance. Alpha Kael has a lot to tell you about your father.”
“My father?”
She nodded quickly. “There's a lot you don't know about him. Go, now! And you will find the answers!”
I nodded quickly. I need that answer so badly. My mother didn't tell me much about him though aside from the fact that he was a werewolf.
But I remembered the mark. With it, can I truly escape?
“The mark!”
She understood me instantly. “You can get rid of it. Run towards the end of the forest, Alpha Kael will be waiting for you. He can get the mark off you.”
What the heck!
Turning around to leave, I remember another thing. So, I turned back to Chloe.
“I need to get you out,” I said, as I reached out to her
“No!” Chloe snapped, pulling me into another sudden stop. “Just leave!” She seemed annoyed right now.
So, I took to my feet, running as fast as I could out of the room. However, Lucian was standing just outside the room.
His expression was grim, as if he just saw a ghost.
How long had he been standing in front of the room?
Fear ripped through me. My legs shook on their own accord, as they slowly backed out right into the room they had bolted out of.
Lucian’s eyes glowed and I could see his sharp paw protruding so fast.
I was too late. I can't believe this. This was my last chance of escaping and I blew it! Again!
“What are you_” Chloe started but stopped almost immediately when she saw Lucian too.
He moved in slow strides like he had all the time in the whole world but there was something about his steps. They were calculative and dangerous.
Fear ripped through me at what he was capable of doing as the Alpha.
The Beta and some other men rushed inside afterwards.
“What did I tell you, Ben?” He said sarcastically, his voice deep and frightening. “I told you it was all a ploy, didn't I?”
Ploy? What ploy?
“This_” Lucian continued. At first, he was right in front of me, just several steps away but in the next few minutes, he was standing in front of Chloe.
“This bitch dares to deceive me!”
“Aria belongs to Alpha Kael. Return her to him!” Chloe yelled instead, fearlessly.
Something in Lucian's eyes twitched.
“Oh, you've fed her more haven't you?”
He didn't wait for a reply, as his right hand went up swiftly across her neck. Even though that movement was very fast and the result was the blood that started to rush out of Chloe’s neck.
“Chloe!” I yelled out, more in fear than in sadness.
Chloe grasped for air for a few minutes before she suddenly went still.
I hurried forward, to grab her and maybe shake her back to life but several men were suddenly blocking my path.
Lucian turned slightly to look at me and I saw how blood decorated half of his face.
He looked very scary now, like a devil on a death rampant.
For a moment, I couldn't breathe.
“Take her away now!” Lucian yelled instantly, as if he had taken a cue.
The men held me gently by both arms and slowly led me out of the room.
I tried to breathe and when I was finally out of the room, it seemed very easy for me to do.
Yet, I couldn't believe what I had seen just a few minutes ago. Lucian killed someone in one heartbeat, right in front of me!
And I tried to escape. What if I were the next?
