Chapter 157 Chapter 157
"My father built the walls," he continued, his deep voice carrying low over the roar of the engines and the sea. "My uncles fought the wars. But you... you gave this family a future that extends beyond the docks." I turned slightly in his arms, looking up into his sharp, striking face. The sun caught the faint, pale scars near his temple, reminders of the old battles, of the violence we had lived through to reach this peace.
"We built a sanctuary, Nikolai," I whispered, reaching up to rest my palm against his warm jawline. He stared down at me, his eyes burning with a dark, terrifyingly beautiful intensity. He leaned down, resting his forehead against mine, his hot breath fanning across my lips.
"Nothing breaks us," he vowed, his deep voice thick with absolute truth. "Not the banks, not the syndicates, not the passage of time. You are my wife. You are the Queen of this bloodline. And as long as I draw breath, this world will bow to you."
I smiled, a real, radiant, unshakeable smile and closed the small distance between us, capturing his lips in a deep, possessive kiss that tasted of ocean salt and pure, eternal devotion. He groaned low in his throat, his broad hands sliding down to cup my waist, lifting me effortlessly against his chest as the boat cut smoothly through the dark, open waters of our kingdom.
The digital map embedded into the black glass of my desk pulsed with steady green nodes. Each node represented a terminal in our network, Zurich, Genoa, Rotterdam, Singapore, and Riverside. Together, they formed a closed financial loop. No foreign banking cartel could freeze our assets; no rival syndicate could intercept our cargo. Every dollar, euro, and piece of physical freight moved through channels we owned outright.
I sat back in my chair inside the high-security office beneath the Ferro estate. The room was cool, quiet, and insulated by three feet of reinforced concrete and steel plating. A quiet chime signaled an incoming encrypted file from our Singapore terminal. I tapped the sensor on my console, expanding the document across the main monitor. It was the finalized registration for the Straits Transit Corridor, a deal we had spent six months structuring.
The door to the office unlocked with a heavy mechanical click. Nikolai walked in, taking off his charcoal wool coat and tossing it over the back of a leather armchair. He wore a fitted black suit without a tie, his dark hair damp from the light rain falling outside. Behind him walked Jules, carrying an encrypted tablet.
"Singapore just cleared," I said, pointing toward the wall monitor. "The eastern transit route is completely locked down. We now control the clearinghouse for every non-aligned cargo vessel moving through the South China Sea."
Jules set his tablet on my desk, tapping the screen to bring up a secondary display. "Which means the remaining regional proxies who relied on Mattew Krane’s old logistics network are officially out of options. They either pay our transit tariffs or their ships don't leave the dock." Nikolai stepped behind my chair, setting his broad hands flat on my shoulders. The heavy, grounding weight of his touch radiated heat straight through the silk of my blouse.
"They’ll pay," Nikolai said, his thumb lightly massaging the base of my neck. "Because they know if they try to bypass our ports, their vessels don't make it past the territorial line."
"We aren't just enforcing tariffs anymore, Nikolai," I replied, leaning my head back against his chest to look up into his dark, sharp features. "We are the central bank for international shipping. We hold the security clearance, the insurance underwriting, and the physical docks." He looked down at me, his pitch-black eyes narrowing slightly with that intense, cold pride that always defined him when he looked at our empire.
"A complete monopoly," he whispered, his rough voice carrying a quiet, dangerous satisfaction.
"A permanent monopoly," I corrected smoothly.
Jules picked up his tablet, swiping through the latest intelligence reports. "We have one minor loose end regarding the former Valerius assets in Zurich. Alistair’s old trustee, a private banker named Heinrich Weber, has been attempting to petition the Swiss courts for an audit of the converted holdings." My eyes narrowed slightly. "Weber? He was Alistair’s personal bagman for fifteen years. He kept quiet after the purge because he thought he could hide behind Swiss privacy laws."
"He thought wrong," Nikolai growled, his grip on my shoulders tightening just enough to emphasize his words. "He’s petitioning the courts because his liquid reserves are running dry. He wants a payout to stay silent about Alistair’s off-ledger accounts." I let out a soft, cold laugh, setting my pen down on the glass desk. "He wants a settlement from the family he tried to help destroy?" I asked.
"He's desperate," Jules noted flatly. "He’s currently staying at a private residence in Lucerne under twenty-four-hour personal security."
"His personal security doesn't mean a goddamn thing," Nikolai said, his voice dropping into that flat, lethal register that admitted zero argument. He looked past my desk toward Jules. "Have Alessio take a team to Lucerne tonight. We don't negotiate with Alistair’s remnants. We freeze his personal accounts, liquidate his property, and ensure he never speaks our family's name again."
"I'll handle the financial seizure from here before Alessio even lands in Switzerland," I added, my dark eyes turning back to the screen. "By midnight, Weber won't have enough money left in his bank accounts to buy a glass of water." Nikolai leaned down, his breath warm against my ear as he growled low, "That’s my Queen."
By three o'clock that morning, the execution was complete.
I sat in the quiet dimness of the central control room, watching the red lines on my screen bleed black one by one. Heinrich Weber’s personal offshore accounts in Geneva, Nassau, and Liechtenstein were systematically dismantled. Every shell company he used to hide his stolen assets was repossessed under the corporate authority of FV Global. Nikolai was standing beside me with his arms crossed over his chest, watching the final transfer indicator hit one hundred percent.
A sharp chime echoed through the room as my terminal confirmed total asset seizure.
"It's done," I said softly, closing the terminal ledger. "Weber’s entire net worth has been absorbed into our trust. He has no leverage, no capital, and no legal standing anywhere in Europe."
He reached down, shutting the terminal screen off, plunging the room into the soft, warm ambient glow of the wall lamps. He took my hand, pulling me smoothly up out of my chair and straight against his chest. "Work is finished for tonight," he said softly, his hands coming around my waist, lifting me slightly so my eyes were level with his.
"The Swiss court petition dies automatically without his funding," I whispered, resting my hands against his chest, feeling the heavy, rhythmic thud of his heart.
"The petition was dead the moment he thought about filing it," he said , his head dipping down to press a deep, lingering kiss against the side of my neck, his stubble scraping deliciously over my skin.
