Elizabeth was scoping out his face, looking for any weird expressions.
No more of that empty, zombie look.
Right then, Michael's eyes were locked on Elizabeth.
They were blazing with anger, hate, and a dash of confusion.
"Susan!" Elizabeth bolted like a cat with its tail on fire, racing downstairs. "Susan, Michael's awake! He talked! He's really awake!"
Her chest was heaving, heart pounding like crazy.
Michael was awake.
Her mind went totally blank.
This was way out of left field.
Susan called the doc and the bodyguards.
The villa was buzzing with people.
No one had expected Michael to awake..
"Michael, I knew you'd wake up!" Mary hurried in and grabbed his hand, tears of joy streaming down her face.
The doc checked him out and told Mary, "This is nuts! Mr. Thomas's vitals are all good. With some rehab, he can pretty much get back to normal."
After everyone cleared out, Elizabeth walked into the room.
She was nervously fidgeting with her clothes, too scared to look at Michael in the bed.
The vibe Michael was giving off now was straight-up terrifying.
He was leaning against the headboard, eyes cold and sharp, drilling into her.
"Who are you?" His voice was deep and intimidating.
Elizabeth was so scared she could barely breathe.
Susan bowed her head and carefully explained, "Mr. Thomas, she's your wife. Mrs. Mary Thomas arranged for her during your illness. Her name is..."
Michael's lips barely moved, his voice ice-cold, "Get her out!"
Elizabeth was so freaked out she stumbled back a couple of steps.
He was like a beast just waking up. When he was out cold, he didn't seem so scary, but now that he was awake, danger was oozing out of him.
Susan dragged Elizabeth out of the room and shut the door.
Seeing Elizabeth looking like a scared deer, she tried to comfort her, "Mrs. Elizabeth Thomas, don't worry. Mr. Thomas just woke up and might need some time to process this. You should crash in the guest room tonight, and we'll figure it out tomorrow."
Elizabeth's mind was a mess; she never thought he'd wake up.
She was totally unprepared.
With the fierce and icy look Michael had just given her, she had a gut feeling he wouldn't accept her as his wife.
She had to be ready to bail from the Thomas family at any moment.
Even though she was his wife, technically, this was their first meeting. It made sense he'd be hostile.
The next morning at eight.
Elizabeth headed to the dining room. Before she got close, she saw Michael sitting in a wheelchair.
His hands could move, thanks to regular muscle exercises.
He sat bolt upright there.
With a pounding heart, she sat down at the dining table.
Susan handed her the utensils.
He hadn't said a word.
She couldn't help but sneak a peek at him.
"My name's Elizabeth," she said, all nervous-like.
Michael picked up his coffee cup, took a slow sip, and said in the flattest tone, "I heard you plan to have my kid?"
Elizabeth was so scared she froze.
"Do you prefer surgical or medical abortion?" he said, calm as a cucumber, but the words were ice-cold.
Elizabeth always knew Michael was ruthless.
But she didn't think he'd be this heartless.
Her fork and knife hung in mid-air, her heart in turmoil.
Her face went pallid.
Susan probably thought the convo was too horrifying, so she forgot her manners and explained, "Mr. Thomas, the kid thing was Mrs. Mary Thomas's idea. It has nothing to do with Mrs. Elizabeth Thomas."
Michael's gaze cut to Susan, "Don't mention Mrs. Mary Thomas."
Susan clammed up.
Elizabeth, "Michael..."
Michael, "Who said you could call me by my name?"
Elizabeth was stunned for a sec, "Then what should I call you? Honey?"
Michael went silent.
She saw his lips press into a thin line, his eyes blazing with anger.
Before he could blow up, she quickly said, "I'm not pregnant. My period came."
Michael didn't say anything, just took another sip of his coffee.
Elizabeth hurriedly finished her breakfast. She was about to head back to her room to grab her bag and bounce.
Being under the same roof with him was seriously uncomfortable.
"Elizabeth, get your papers ready. We're getting divorced soon." His voice was cold as ice.
Elizabeth stopped in her tracks, not too surprised, "Now?"
"In a couple of days," he said.
Mary got too excited last night and ended up in the hospital with high blood pressure.
Michael didn't want to stress Mary out more.
"Oh, I'm ready anytime." She quickly went back to her room.
About five minutes later, she came out with her bag.
Unexpectedly, Anthony showed up.
Anthony stood respectfully by Michael's wheelchair.
"Michael, my folks went to the hospital to see Grandma. They asked me to come check on you." Anthony placed the gifts he brought on the coffee table.
Michael gave a look to the bodyguard next to him.
The bodyguard got the hint and picked up the gifts Anthony brought and tossed them out.
Anthony panicked, "Michael! I brought you gifts. If you don't like them, I can get something else. Please don't be mad!"
Before he could finish, the bodyguard walked over and kicked him in the leg.
Anthony hit the floor with a thud.
Elizabeth didn't dare make a sound.
She had no clue why Michael was so violent towards Anthony.
"Didn't expect me to wake up, did you? Anthony. Did it mess up your plans?" Michael sneered.
Anthony knelt on the ground, held down tight, unable to move, and cried out, "Michael, what are you talking about? I'm happier than anyone that you're awake. I've been hoping every day that you'd wake up soon!"
