Chapter 47 Capture
Chapter 47 Capture
DANNI’S POV
The cold stone remained indifferent to my fear, for it was merely stone. I pressed my fingers into the floor, seeking a tangible anchor amidst the disarray of my reality. The air itself felt tainted, stale and metallic, hinting at a prolonged and unsettling presence. Though I couldn't explain how, I knew acutely that I was no longer in the forest near Luka's place.
I swallowed hard. Think. Panicking won't help. My wolf pressed faintly at the edges of my mind, like claws scraping behind glass.
She was Blocked. Slightly Muted. But not gone.
Good.
That meant I wasn’t alone… just caged. I could figured out caged. I couldn’t let my fear and panic swallow me, it would do me no good.
Footsteps echoed. Slow but Measured. I didn’t look up right away. I wouldn’t give him that.
“You’re adjusting quickly,” that same smooth voice said.
I forced myself to meet his gaze anyway. “You kidnapped the wrong girl.”
A flicker of amusement. “On the contrary… we were very specific.”
I pushed myself up, ignoring how heavy my limbs felt. “What do you want?”
He tilted his head, studying me like I was something rare pinned under glass. From what I just learned I knew that. But I wasn’t going to let him know that.
“Potential,” he said simply.
I scoffed, though it came out weaker than I wanted. “That’s vague.”
“It’s accurate.” He stepped closer. Every instinct in me screamed to attack. No. I can’t. I didn’t move. Not yet.
“You feel it, don’t you?” he continued softly. “Even suppressed. Even restrained.” My pulse betrayed me, quickening. They did something. The sparkle in his smug gaze told me I was correct. He smiled slightly.
“Power like yours doesn’t disappear,” he said. “It waits until it’s needed.”
My jaw tightened. “You’re not getting it.”
“Oh, I don’t need to take it,” he replied calmly. That made my stomach drop. What else could there be?
“I just need you to use it.”
Fuck.
LUKA’s POV
The forest bent to me. Not physically. But it felt like it should. It was the magic in the earth and sky that recognized the royalty in him.
Every step I took carved purpose into the ground beneath me. Scouts fanned out behind me, shadows among shadows, but I was the spearpoint. Focused and Relentless.
“Anything?” Phil’s voice came through the comm.
“Residual magic,” Jordan answered from somewhere off to the east. “Faint. Like… breadcrumbs.”
“Follow them,” I said.
There was no room for hesitation. No room for doubt.
Joel fell into step beside him. “If this is a trap—”
“It is,” I cut in.
“Then we need to—”
“I know what we need.” My voice wasn’t sharp. It was final.
Joel exhaled slowly. “You’re riding the edge.”
“I’m holding it,” I replied. I knew my limits.
The scent still clung to me. Danni. I could still taste her fear, her pain. It’s what kept me from falling over. I didn’t want to scare her when we got to her. We will get her back.
It clawed at my control, each trace of the beast was another match dropped into dry kindling.
My wolf paced beneath my skin, restless and furious. He wanted her safe as badly as I did, and that's why he let me regain some control. It was all for her.
Closer.
It wasn’t a suggestion. My jaw tightened. Fighting to keep control. If I couldn’t get results. He would take over again and get them himself.
“I know,” I muttered to myself.
Joel glanced at me. “You say something?”
“No.” I respond
Ahead, Jordan’s voice cut in, sharper now. “Found something.”
I was already moving before the words finished.
DANNI’S POV
They underestimated one thing.
Me.
How dare they use my family to trick me? To hurt me. HOW DARE THEY.
The moment he was close enough, I moved. Fast and low. My body reacted before my fear could catch up, pivoting into him with all my might.
For a fleeting moment—Contact. It was solid. It was real. I almost doubted my ability. But my wolf believed in me.
He didn't see that coming. I noticed the flicker, and that was all the opening I needed. I spun, going for his throat, but he grabbed me right in the middle of the move.
Of course he did.
But this time—I didn’t stop.
I drove forward anyway, nails digging in, teeth bared, a snarl ripping out of me like something wild had finally found its voice.
The room seemed to pulse.
A sharp crack split the air, not from the groaning wood of the walls or the ragged sound of his breath, but from somewhere deep within me, a sickening snap that resonated in my bones.
The barrier—Wavered.
Just for a second.
Power surged through my veins like wildfire breaking containment.
His expression shifted. Interest… sharpened into something else.
“Careful,” he murmured. “You’re stronger when you stop thinking.”
“Good,” I snapped, even as my strength faltered again. “Because I’m done listening.”
He tightened his grip. Pain flared. The barrier slammed back into place.
Harder this time.
My body slumped against my will. I was breathing heavily. Damn it—
“Progress,” he said, almost approving.
I glared at him. “I’m going to kill you.”
A soft chuckle.
“No,” he said. “You’re going to become something much more useful than that.”
LUKA POV
Jordan stood frozen at the edge of a clearing.
“Here,” he said.
The air felt wrong. Luka stepped into it—And everything in him went still.
Magic, ancient and powerful. Full of Layers and Recent.
His eyes darkened.
“They opened something here,” Jordan said quietly. “Not just transport. Something… anchored.”
Joel swore under his breath. “So we can track it?”
Jordan hesitated.“…Yes.”
That was all I needed. “Do it.”
Jordan crouched, pressing his hand to the ground again, breathing slow, controlled.
“It’s deep,” he muttered. “Shielded. Whoever did this knew what they were doing.”
“Chad didn’t do this alone,” Phil said grimly over comms.
“No,” I agreed.
My gaze lifted. I tried to Focused on nothing visible—And everything at once.
“But he’s going to regret it anyway.”
Jordan’s head snapped up. “I’ve got it.” We had a direction. A thread to her. It was Thin. But real.
I didn’t wait. I Didn’t plan. I Didn’t hesitate. I moved.
Fast enough that the forest blurred around me. Behind me, the others followed. But they were chasing me now. Not leading. Not guiding. Because I wasn’t hunting anymore.
I was coming for something that had been taken.
DANNI POV
I woke up alone once more. But alive and mostly intact. The door downstairs slammed shut with a heavy, final sound.
I slid down the wall slowly, my body trembling.
I wasn't weak. I wasn't broken. I was just… adjusting. I was learning.
My fingers curled into fists.
He was wrong about one thing. I wasn’t waiting. Instinct took over. I closed my eyes. Reached inward. Past the fear. Past the pain. Past the block.
“There she is,” I whispered. Her tie to me was Faint. But real.
The white wolf stirred.
A small smile tugged at my lips despite everything.
“Good,” I murmured.
Because if she could still reach me…
Even like this…Then they hadn’t won.
Not yet.
