Chapter 50 CHAPTER 50
ALINA’S POV
“Last night seemed…a lot for you.”
The nerves he had to mention last night. Last night that he…that we-I- ugh! After all the porn and everything, he had to guts to send me a fruit basket with a note today. A note.
“You really are a bastard,” I muttered, gritting my teeth. Squeezing the stupid note. And to think I was just having insane thoughts about the bananas in his stupid fruit basket. Calling it a cock. A smooth cock.
“Oh God.” I moaned out slowly, embarrassed. More than embarrassed. “What a way to ruin my day. What a way!”
But you know what? I wasn’t going to let him. I won’t let him do what he thinks his doing, ruin and aggravate things for me. Last night was a mess, but today was a different day. Today was a work day, i was at work, I had tons of things to do and I will work. Nothing other than that.
So be it crazy insane thoughts about the workers working with me, bananas, Cleo’s words or a certain bastard’s audacity, I wouldn’t let them all get to me. I got shit to do, and I’m a grown ass woman. Woman capable enough to get herself in check, and that’s what I’m going to do.
That’s what people. That what.
“Alright then,” I sat up. Packing the basket completely, pushing it to the side and off my desk. “Stay away from me.” I warned it. Facing my system and all the notes I made from upstairs in the Seraph wing.
I got to work right after. Just concentrating and putting all my energy. But of course, distractions were bound to come. They were so bound and I kind of expected it.
“Excuse miss?” a knock came on my door. One of the security popping in. “Sorry to interrupt but I have a message for you.”
“A message?” I paused, looking up at him. “What message? Is it from the-
“The boss asks you to lunch miss.” he blurted out the words. Halting me. “The boss asked me to get you for lunch. He’s already waiting.”
“What?” I blinked, “I don’t…I don’t follow. What lunch?”
“You’ll understand better when we get there miss. It’s just upstairs.”
“Upstairs?”
Like yesterday upstairs? Deep End upstairs??
Oh you bastard, you’re up to something else aren’t you?
“Miss?” the security called, gesturing I go with him. Like leave my office and then go out with him. To HIM.
No way.
No fucking way.
I cleared my throat then, sitting up properly. Shoulders squared. “I’m not interested in having lunch.” I started, “I don’t want to have lunch right now, in fact I’m not hungry. So tell Boss I won’t be coming. He can eat by himself.”
“Miss?” He stared at me. Surprised.
“You heard me,” I said simply, returning my eyes back to my screen.Focusing on my documents. “Shut my door on your way out.”
Stunned stares followed for a bit, the sound of my clicking on the system filling the air, but soon he left. Doing as told, shutting my door and hence making me look back up at the spot he left.
I almost couldn’t believe it. Couldn’t believe what just happened, that bastard really had some nerves. Big fat nerves at that.
First a fruit basket, and now invites me for lunch? Lunch?? to do what exactly? Reminisce about last night? My tragic failure of a night??
And to think he sent a security to deliver his message…what was he thinking? What was he doing, what sort of game was this. Here I was trying to keep myself out of a mess, here the mess was stirring up shit for me.
Imagine what that security would be thinking. Imagine what the people he’ll speak with will be thinking, imagine what everyone would be thinking right now about me, about us!
Christ, there was no us! There’s no us here Alina, there’s no us!!
“Arghhh.” I dropped my pen, aggravated. Breathing harshly through my nose, my back against my seat. And just then, my phone vibrated.
A call.
From Cleo again?
“Better not be you girl, I cannot-
I held those words. The very last of them stuck in my throat as I stared at my vibrating phone, the screen. The number there.
I’d recognize it anywhere. Recognize it anytime.
It was his number.
His number from back then and…he hadn't changed it. Stupid bastard hadn’t changed his number and was calling me right now. Calling my phone. How did he get my contact??
Or was I overreacting right now? It could be someone else.
Right?
Gingerly I took the call, breath steady. No noise.
But the moment I heard the first words, the hello, I just knew it.
“Fucking bastard.” I ended the call right then and there. Slamming my phone back down on the desk, glaring at it now.
What was his problem?? Why was he doing this?
The phone vibrated again. Another call. From him.
I let it ring. Watched it ring, the hair on my skin rising. My blood surging.
A moment and the call ended. It didn’t vibrate again, I watched it.
But the moment I moved my eyes, my intercom started buzzing. The one on my desk. The official office line.
Someone was buzzing me, and I knew damned sure who it was.
“He’s calling me through the official line now? You really don’t know when to stop, do you?” I muttered distastefully, gritting. “Keep calling then. Keep calling.”
Instead of taking the calls, I found my earbuds from my bag. “Crazy bastard,” I put them on. Turning up the music from my phone. “Even if you come down here yelling and complaining, trying to make an issue out of me not answering official calls, I’d just say I didn’t hear it ring.”
Simple and neat.
No one could oppose that unreasonably. Even if they tried, it wouldn’t work.
With that I faced my screen with confidence. Seriousness engraved in my very features, determination to do my work, the very thing i came to this bloody building to do, poured through my veins. The earlier I concluded everything and be finally done with this project, be finally out of this building, the better for me.
Several hours passed after that. Several.
If I had more calls? I didn’t know. Didn’t bother to check either. By the time it was close of work, I just packed up my stuff, grabbed his fruit basket and left. Not forgetting to dump it before leaving.
I wanted nothing to do with him. Innocent fruits or not, I wanted nothing to do with him.
I went home after that. Settling in, my muscles sore all over, especially my back.
“A good swim will heal me right now.” I murmured as I washed my dishes. Stretching my arms and back as far as I could. It didn’t help. It couldn’t help. But a pool would.
“There’s one in the building right?”
I saw it last time I went touring. Big mistake, and I most definitely wouldn’t want to make such mistakes again.
But I think I remember the floor the pool was on.
“It’s the floor before mine, I think.” I muttered, racking my memeory. Eyes squinting. “It’s definitely the floor before mine because I remember coming back to the apartment no sooner than later after leaving the pool last time.”
Hopefully last time wouldn’t repeat itself.
I honestly wanted to see nobody. Just wanted to be by myself, swim and let go of all the bad energy I’d gathered lately.
“I’ll spend just 20 minutes.” I sighed, changing my clothes. “20 minutes and I’ll be back. Shower and then go to bed.”
Easy peasy.
No stress at all.
In no time I was ready to go, and without much debating I went to my elevator and pressed that SP button. Soon after the doors opened up to the familiar and yet not so familiar section of the building. It was the pool area alright, but I hadn't gotten so used to it yet given I was here only once. But there was enough time change that.
Starting today.
I went straight ahead for the water body itself. Found a spot, and slowly, I lowered myself into it. Smiling gradually as I felt the cool water float and swallow all around me. Every part of me, except my head of course.
“This is…nice.” I commented slowly, giggling silently. Floating around just for a bit, my body already relaxing. “Aw, this is nice. So nice.”
It felt really good too. Really good to just float around, dip my head below and come out right back, the water on my face, ears, hair, ass and boobs most definitely.
I was getting ready to swim a bit at this point, already soaked in. But that’s when I heard it.
A splash.
A few bubbles appearing not too far from me. “What,” I paused, looking around. The few bubbles around.
Then it happened again.
Another splash. Stronger this time, and the water around me moved because of it. A slight change in current. Which then led me to turn around back around, following the movement and that’s when I saw it.
Him.
Again.
He was in the pool.
He was in the pool with me. He was in the same pool, and…and so very naked!
One second and his eyes moved while staring right at me. A subtle smile on his lips.
A wink.
He winked.
He just winked at me.
“Hello Consultant,” his voice flowed to my ears, smooth. “Nice pool, huh?”
Oh my God.
