Chapter 197

Chapter 197
Alexander's POV

I stared at the door long after Morgan had gone, my fingers gently tracing the edges of the card she'd left behind. Three billion dollars. The exact amount needed to save my company. The exact amount I'd spent on that ring.

I no longer dare to hold on to hope, not after I’ve hurt Morgan so many times. She gave me this card out of sympathy; even after all the pain she’s been through, she still refuses to hurt a sinner. If she won’t do it, I will. I toss the bank card into the drawer.

With a sigh, I looked at the ring I'd spent those billions on. It sat innocently in the drawer, catching the late afternoon sunlight streaming through the windows. I didn't regret buying it, not when it had been created for the woman I truly loved. Not Olivia, as I'd once believed, but Morgan.

A soft knock interrupted my thoughts. Laura peered in, her expression apologetic.

"Sir, there are two visitors asking to see you. They don't have an appointment."

Before I could respond, the door swung open. Olivia strode in, her designer dress perfectly tailored to her slender frame. Behind her followed a man I immediately recognized – Jack, the CEO of a small production company that I had always looked down upon. Jack was everything I despised in the industry: a man who relied on connections rather than talent, who schmoozed his way to deals rather than earning them through merit.

Jack stood closely behind Olivia, his hand possessively resting on her lower back. I smiled—bankruptcy, divorce, maybe that’s exactly what Morgan would like to see me go through.

"I'll handle this, Laura," I said calmly, dismissing my assistant with a nod.

Once Laura had closed the door, Olivia's perfect smile twisted into something cruel.

"I heard you spent three billion dollars on a ring worth a few thousand," she said, her voice dripping with mockery. "What a brilliant business decision."

I remained expressionless, though my knuckles turned white as I gripped the edge of my desk. I'd long suspected Olivia's true nature, but seeing it displayed so openly still stung.

"What do you want, Olivia?" I asked, my voice deceptively calm.

Olivia stepped forward, pulling an iPad from her designer purse. She turned the screen toward me, displaying a stock chart with a sharp downward trend.

"Reynolds Media Group stock down fifteen percent today," she announced gleefully. "The board thinks your 'emotional decision-making' makes you unfit to continue as CEO." She paused, satisfaction gleaming in her eyes. "And I, thanks to that necklace, am about to become a billionaire."

I met her gaze steadily, ice forming in my veins. "I thought you at least loved me once."

"Oh, Alexander." Olivia reached into her Hermès bag and pulled out a set of documents. "I've been many things, but I never enjoyed playing the neglected wife."

I glanced at the papers. Divorce documents, already signed by Olivia. I should have felt something – anger, perhaps, or even relief – but all I felt was a strange emptiness as I stared at her signature.

I'd known she bullied Morgan. I'd known she'd do anything to have me. I'd known she'd attack innocent people for her own gain. But until today, I hadn't fully accepted that even her love had been false.

With a bitter laugh, I signed my name next to hers.

"How long have you known him?" I nodded toward Jack, who stood watching with barely contained smugness. "I only bought that ring hours ago, and you've already found a replacement?"

Olivia scoffed, pulling the signed papers back toward her. "Darling, I'm not the type to sit at home playing the grieving widow. Jack and I have known each other much longer than you might imagine."

I shook my head and closed my eyes, unable to feel my own emotions. I just wished Morgan could witness this scene herself. Maybe she would laugh.

Olivia turned toward Jack, excitement brightening her face. "We're finally free! Will you marry me now?" she asked, her voice breathless with anticipation.

Jack's face split into a self-satisfied grin as he opened his mouth to respond, but a familiar voice from the doorway cut him off.

"If I were you, I wouldn't be so hasty to make that decision."

My heart skipped a beat as I turned to see Morgan leaning against the doorframe, arms crossed casually over her chest. She looked breathtaking – confident and powerful in a way I'd never seen before, her green eyes flashing with mischief.

"Morgan?" I couldn't hide my surprise. "You came back?"

She smiled, pushing herself off the doorframe and walking toward me. "Forgot my coat," she said smoothly. Her fingers brushed against my chest as she leaned in. "Things got a bit... intense earlier. Made me forgetful."

I blinked in confusion, but something in her eyes told me to play along. I felt a small thrill run through me at the realization that Morgan wanted me to be part of whatever game she was playing.

Olivia's face flushed crimson. "You two were—" she sputtered, pointing between us accusingly. "Alexander Reynolds, you've been cheating on me!"

Morgan rolled her eyes dramatically. "Do you have any proof of that?"

"I don't need—" Olivia began, but Morgan cut her off, pulling out her phone.

"But your infidelity during marriage? That I have evidence of." She waved her phone. "I have text messages, hotel receipts, even some interesting photos."

Jack stepped forward, his confident demeanor faltering slightly. "That's hardly proof of a crime. Maybe a moral failing, but since they've already signed the divorce papers, it's irrelevant to anything except perhaps the division of assets."

Morgan's smile was cold. "You're right about that. But that's not what I'm talking about." She pressed play on her phone, and a different recording began.

Olivia's voice filled the room, crystal clear: "I told you that accident had nothing to do with me! Even the police dropped the investigation—"

I watched as Olivia's face drained of color. Morgan paused the recording, then pressed play again to continue.

"I didn't know about the baby when I pushed her down those stairs!"

The office fell silent. After all these years, justice for Morgan was finally within reach.

"Intentional harm causing miscarriage can be prosecuted as 'unlawful abortion,'" Morgan stated coldly. "Maximum penalty: life imprisonment."

Olivia's face contorted with rage. She lunged toward Morgan, hands outstretched for the phone. I moved instinctively, positioning myself between them and pushing Olivia back forcefully. She stumbled, falling ungracefully to the floor.

"Don't touch her," I growled, my voice low and dangerous.

Olivia looked up at Jack, desperation in her eyes. "Help me! Stop them!"

Jack had already backed away several steps, his calculating eyes assessing the situation. "Getting involved in legal issues over a woman I didn't even have to pay for? I'm not that stupid."

The office door opened again, and David walked in. He quickly moved to Olivia, restraining her as she screamed and struggled.

"My father will save me!" Olivia shrieked, tears streaming down her face.

Morgan's expression turned ice-cold. "I wouldn't count on that. I think he's got problems of his own right now."
