Chapter 20 Lisa's Betrayal
Lucas's pov
I left work early, I couldn't focus anyway to my work. The quarterly numbers were garbage and I was tired of pretending things were fine. So I went home at 3pm on a Tuesday.
The house was quiet when I walked in, everywhere was silent like a grave yard.
Lisa's car was in the driveway. She was supposed to be at a photoshoot.
I walked upstairs, loosening my tie when I heard Lisa's laughter and one other person.
A man to be precise, coming out from our bedroom. My heart rate increase and my stomach dropped.
I opened the door. And there she was naked.Lisa was in our bed naked with David.David fucking Chen. My business partner. My CFO. The guy I'd trusted to help save my company and help it grow again.
They both froze when they saw me.
For a second, nobody moved.
Then David scrambled to grab his clothes.
"Shit. Lucas. Man, I—"
"Get out," I said.
My voice didn't even sound like mine. It was too calm and quiet.
"Lucas, I'm sorry—"
"I said get out."
David was pulling on his pants, hopping around like an idiot while Lisa just sat there..She didn't even try to cover herself.
"Get out," she said, looking at me like I was the one interrupting both of them.
You mean I should get out of my matrimonial room.
"Yes. I'm not done here."
I got so vexed .I grabbed the lamp off the nightstand and threw it at the wall.
It shattered across the room , everywhere was filled with glass.
"Are you insane?" Lisa shrieked.
"I'M INSANE?" I screamed back. "YOU'RE FUCKING MY BUSINESS PARTNER IN OUR BED AND I'M INSANE?"
"Oh please." She rolled her eyes."Don't act so shocked. You had to know this was coming."
David was fully dressed now, edging toward the door.
"Man, I'm sorry—"
"Sorry?" I turned on him. "You're sorry?
You've been screwing my wife and you're sorry?"
"It just happened—"
"Get the fuck out of my house before I kill you."
David ran away. I heard his footsteps thunder down the stairs. Heard the front door slam and then it was just me and Lisa.
She was getting dressed now. Taking her time. Like this was just another Tuesday.
"What did you expect, Lucas?" she said, pulling on her designer jeans.
"What?"
"You're broke, you're boring and you u're useless. What did you expect ? What did you think would happen?"
"I gave you everything!"
She laughed out loud .
"You gave me nothing but a company that had failed already.A family full of crazy people. A life I had to pretend to enjoy. You gave me nothing."
"I married you! I divorced Lara for you!"
"And that was your first mistake." She pulled on her shirt. "Lara was useful. She knew how to run a business. And she had money and connections and also her father's company. You threw away the golden goose for what? Me? I'm a model, Lucas. I'm not a miracle worker."
I felt like I'd been punched, I felt like I should enter the toilet thousands of time.
"So that's it? You used me?"
"Of course I used you. You think I married you for love? Please. I married you because you were rich and powerful. But you're not rich anymore. And you're definitely not powerful. So what's the point?"
"The point is we're married!"
"Not for long." She grabbed her purse. "I want a divorce.".
"Good! I want onee too!"I have just been enduring all these shits with you. Guy, I'm done.
"Perfect. Have your lawyer call mine. And I'm taking half of whatever's left."
"There's nothing left!"
"Then I guess you're really fucked, aren't you?"
She walked to the door. Stopped. Turned back.
"You know what your real problem is, Lucas?"
What?
"You destroyed the one person who actually loved you. Lara would've stuck by you through anything. But you threw her away for me. And I never loved you at all."
Then she was gone.
I stood there in the wreckage of my bedroom, glasses on the floor. Sheets messed up. The smell of Lisa's perfume and her betrayal thick in the air.I sat down hard on the edge of the bed.
What just happened?
~~
That night, Lisa came back with movers. "I'm taking my things," she announced.
I was on my third whiskey. I didn't even care anymore.
"Take whatever you want."
She loaded up her boxes. Clothes. Jewelry. Furniture she'd picked out.
By midnight, half tof the e house was empty.
She stopped in the doorway on her way out.
"You should call Lara," she said.
"What?"
"Beg her to take you back. She's your only shot at fixing this mess."
"She hates me."
"So? You're good at lying. Make her believe you've changed."
"I'm not—"
"You're not what? Above manipulation? Please. You manipulated her for five years. What's a little more?"
Then she left. For good this time. The house was so quiet and also quiet, no one to bring a strange man home again, no one to shout.I sat in the empty living room drinking until my phone rang.
It was a call from my mother. Of course, I knew she was going to call.
"Hello?"
"Have you seen the news?" Her voice was shrill.
No.
"It's everywhere! 'Supermodel Lisa Vale's Secret: Fertility Lies Exposed!' Someone leaked her medical records! We're being humiliated!"
I took another drink. "Good."
"Good? GOOD? Do you know how this makes us look?"
"I don't care, Mother."
"You don't— Lucas, are you drunk?"
"Lisa's is gone. She was cheating on me. Probably with multiple people. She just moved out."
We were both silent for some time.
Then: "Good. File for divorce immediately. And then find Lara."
"What?"
"Find Lara. Win her back. We need her, Lucas."
"She won't come back."
Then make her come back! Apologize! Tell her you were wrong! Do whatever it takes!
"Mother—"
We need an heir! We need her company! We need everything we lost! So fix this mess you created!
She hung up.
I threw my phone across the room.It hit the wall and cracked. Honestly,I didn't care about that.
I stood up. I stumbled to my office.
I pulled up old photos on my computer.
There she was.
Lara.
From before. When we first got married.
She was smiling in this one. Actually smiling.
When did she stop smiling?
I scrolled through more photos.
Our wedding. Her in that white dress. Looking at me like I was everything.
Company events. Her by my side. Always by my side.
Family dinners. Her trying so hard to fit in with my mother and sisters.
When did I stop seeing her?
When did she become just... a means to an end?
I kept scrolling.
The photos got darker. Sadder.
Her smile fading. Her eyes losing their light.
Until the last photo. The night I threw her out.I'd taken it without her knowing. Some sick part of me wanting to document it.
She was at the door with her suitcase. Looking back at me one last time.
Her face was empty. Hollow. Dead inside.
I did that.
I killed the light in her eyes.
For what?
For Lisa who never loved me?
For money I lost anyway?
For status that crumbled the moment things got hard?
I zoomed in on Lara's face in that photo.
And I realized something.
Honestly, she he'd been beautiful.
Not like Lisa with her photoshopped perfection.
But real. Genuine. Warm.
And I'd thrown her away.
I closed the laptop and put my head in my hands.
"What have I done?" I whispered.
The house didn't answer.
Just echoed with emptiness.
The same emptiness I'd created in Lara.
The same emptiness I now felt myself.
I thought about calling the PI. Telling him to find Lara faster.
But what would I even say if he did?
"Sorry I abused you. Sorry I stole from you. Sorry I helped murder your father. Wanna get back together?"
Yeah. That would work
I poured another drink.
Kept pouring until the bottle was empty.
Until the room started spinning.
Until I couldn't see Lara's face in my mind anymore
.
But even drunk, I could still hear my mother's voice.
"Find her. Win her back. Do whatever it takes."
And the worst part?
I knew I was desperate enough to try.
Because when you've lost everything, you'll do anything to get it back.
Even if it means destroying the one person who's finally free.
