Consequences and Promises

Consequences and Promises

Catalina held her cheek in shock, the red handprint already forming on her pale skin as she stared at the man who had just struck her with the desperation of someone trying to save his own life at her expense.

Queenie stared at what was happening, surprised, her eyes wide as she watched the situation unfold. She had never expected him to slap Catalina, though given the circumstances and the danger they were all in, perhaps she should have seen it coming.

"Mr. Deveraux I..." the man started, his voice trailing off as he realized that no words could adequately explain or excuse what he had almost done to the wife of the most powerful man in the city.

"What excuse do you have to give me," Jamal asked, his voice carrying the kind of cold authority that made grown men tremble and powerful businessmen reconsider their life choices.

"Do you want to tell me that you didn't know she was my wife," he continued, his dark eyes boring into the man with an intensity that suggested he could see right through any lie or deflection that might be offered.

"Wow the Vale family never cease to amaze me," Jamal muttered, his voice carrying years of accumulated anger and frustration with a family that seemed determined to cross him at every turn.

"Mr. Deveraux please spare me just this once I promise it won't ever repeat itself again," the man said, his voice breaking slightly as he begged for mercy he wasn't sure he deserved or would receive.

Jamal smiled, but it was the kind of expression that made everyone in the room feel like the temperature had dropped several degrees. "Of course it won't repeat itself again and the good news here is that I will spare you," Jamal said as he let out a devilish smile that promised consequences far worse than death.

"I'll spare you but you can't go without a punishment," he continued, his voice taking on the measured tone of someone delivering a carefully considered judgment.

"This is my wife we're talking about," he said, his possessive emphasis on the word 'wife' making it clear that this wasn't just about business or reputation, but something far more personal and dangerous.

"If anyone messes with her the person can't leave without a punishment," he continued, establishing the rules of engagement for anyone who might be foolish enough to threaten what belonged to him.

"For your guards. I want 100 strokes of cane delivered to them on the hand they used to touch my wife," Jamal said, his voice clinical and precise as he outlined the physical punishment that awaited the men who had dared to lay hands on Queenie.

"Then for you Mr. Kenneth," he continued, turning his attention to the man who was responsible for orchestrating this entire nightmare scenario.

"Don't worry a little loss in your company won't be so bad," Jamal said with the kind of casual cruelty that suggested he was discussing the weather rather than someone's financial ruin.

"Your wife should get the news by tomorrow morning," he added, making it clear that the consequences would extend beyond just business into the man's personal life as well.

"I want your guards whipped with the video sent to me. Failure to do that you'll bear their punishment," Jamal said, ensuring that there would be proof of compliance with his demands and consequences for any attempt to avoid them.

Mr. Kenneth looked at him in horror, his face going ashen as the full implications of Jamal's words began to sink in. When Jamal spoke about a "little loss" it might be more than a loss, it might be the complete downfall of his company and everything he'd worked decades to build.

"Mr. Deveraux please I'm begging you let me go just this once I promise I'll never mess with your wife again," he said, his voice rising with desperation as he realized that his entire future was hanging by a thread.

Jamal smiled softly, the expression somehow more terrifying than his earlier anger had been. "That's what I'm going to do," he said with mock reassurance.

"I want to help you, give you a memorable gift that will carve my wife's face in your head that would make you never mess with her again," he said, his words carrying the promise of consequences that would be both lasting and deeply unpleasant.

Then he turned to face Catalina, who had been watching this exchange with growing horror as she realized that her clever plan had not only failed but had put her in mortal danger.

"Then for you Catalina Vale," he said, her full name rolling off his tongue like a curse as he focused his attention on the architect of this entire situation.

"I see your family always wants to be crossing paths with me," he continued, his voice carrying years of accumulated frustration with the Vale family's apparent determination to interfere with his life and business.

"Besides we're in-laws after all it's only right I give you a good gift," he said with a smile that promised retribution disguised as generosity.

"Expect the news of your gift by tomorrow morning," he said, his voice carrying the finality of a death sentence as he made it clear that her punishment would be swift and decisive.

Catalina opened her mouth to talk but words couldn't come out, her throat constricting with fear as she realized that she had finally pushed too far and crossed a line from which there might be no return.

Jamal looked at Queenie before offering her a soft smile, the expression transforming his face from something terrifying into something almost gentle as his attention shifted to the woman he was sworn to protect.

He held her hand before taking her away, his touch possessive and reassuring as he guided her out of the nightmare situation she'd found herself in through no fault of her own.

Mr. Kenneth turned to look at Catalina, his face twisted with rage and fear as he realized that his association with her had just cost him everything he'd worked for.

"This is all your fault you witch," he snarled, his voice filled with the kind of hatred that came from knowing your life had just been destroyed by someone else's stupidity and malice.

"You knew fully well that she belongs to Jamal Deveraux, someone we should never mess with yet you still wanted me to commit a sin that might cost my head," he continued, his voice rising as years of careful reputation management crumbled around him.

"I'm warning you Catalina if anything happens to my image then just know that I won't spare you," he said, his voice carrying the promise of violence that suggested Jamal wouldn't be the only one seeking retribution.

"Because you'll be coming down with me, that's a promise," he continued, making it clear that if he was going to suffer for this mistake, she would suffer alongside him.

"Tomorrow will tell what the future has in store for us. You better get ready to face any consequences of your silly actions now," he said, his words hanging in the air like a threat as both of them contemplated the destruction that would rain down on them with the morning sun.
