CHAPTER SIXTEEN
Leilani POV
Leilani's gaze shifted to the newcomer, she was a stunning woman with piercing green eyes and raven-black hair. She had an air of urgency, like that of a woman who was never kept waiting and was not willing to do it, her face flushed with annoyance as she looked at them both.
Leilani felt her stomach tighten with nerves as she , recognized her immediately.
Bellamy.
The woman Gustin loved and the reason she had given up her marriage to Gustin Winchester in the first place
"What is this?" she asked looking to both of them, she didn't look pleased.
" Why are you with her" she asked, Bellamy knew who she was then.
Gustin’s face hardened instantly, his gaze shifting from Leilani to Bellamy.
"Bellamy, this isn't the time—"
"Oh, isn't it?" Bellamy cut him off, her eyes blazing with rage
" Take Thomas and go inside" Gustin gritted and for the first time, Leilani noticed which was stupid because it shouldn't have taken that long
Bellamy was holding a small boy, no more than two years old, he clung to her neck, his wide eyes flicking between them. There was no mistaking who's child he was, not with that striking resemblance to Gustin. The same sharp jaw even though , it was a bit chubby from the baby fat, the same dark eyes that used to stare into hers, just like her own children.
" We need to talk." Bellamy hissed, pulling at his shirt
"You promised me you took care of this, Gustin! What the hell is she doing here " she asked angrily.
Leilani blinked, the heat of Bellamy's glare burning her face , this scene was escalating very seriously. She took a step back, wanting to remove herself from this
"I'll leave," she said quietly, glancing at Gustin.
“There’s no reason for me to be here.”
Gustin's hand shot out, before she could take another step, grasping her arm.
"No," He said grabbing her arm, gently but firmly.
“Leilani, wait,” he said, his voice tight.
“You don’t have to leave.”
Bellamy scoffed loudly, her temper flaring even further.
"Are you kidding me, Gustin? You're really going to choose her over us? Over your own son?"
Leilani froze, the words hitting her like a punch to the gut, though she wasn't sure why, she had known the boy was his. That he had a child.
Gustin sighed, his hand still on Leilani’s arm. “Bellamy, not here. Not now."
" Not now, then when, Gustin? When are you ever going to take responsibility for this? For him?”
She bounced the boy slightly in her arms, and he whimpered, who seemed clearly uncomfortable with the raised voices.
Leilani pulled her arm out of Gustin's grip, taking a step back.
"No, she’s right. I shouldn’t be here. I’ll go."
But Gustin stepped forward, blocking her from leaving
"No. Bellamy can leave. This has nothing to do with her."
“Nothing to do with me?” Bellamy’s asked incredulously.
“How dare you,–"
“Bellamy,” Gustin said firmly, his eyes flashing with frustration.
“We’re not having this conversation around Thomas, go inside now ” he hissed
Bellamy’s face twisted into a scowl,
“Fine. But this isn’t over, Gustin. ” she snapped, walking away in a huff with one final glare in her direction.
Leilani stood there, watching as Bellamy disappeared into the building she had just come out from, the little boy’s head resting against her shoulder, he waved at her, something clumsy and she smiled waving back.
She was happy that at least the boy was a happy child, he would have his father.
Once Bellamy was out of sight, Gustin let out a long breath, rubbing his temples.
He looked over to Leilani,
“We need to talk,” he said quietly.
Leilani crossed her arms, wondering if that could protect her from him.
“About what?”
Gustin scoffed, a harsh , sarcastic sound that made her flinch.
“Are you serious, Leilani? "
Leilani’s heart skipped a beat, her throat tightening.
"what are you talking about?" She stuttered, her voice trembling.
Gustin's gaze locked onto hers, the intensity making her breath catch.
"Our children, Leilani. The ones you kept from me."
She looked away, shaking her head.
"Gustin, I—"she started, then stopped
" I'm not sure what you're talking about " she replied swallowing.
Gustin's jaw clenched.
"Don't play dumb, Leilani. I know about the twins and don't lie to me,either, I have proof" he interrupted, his eyes blazing.
" DNA tests, hospitals reports... everything."."he muttered and she swallowed, he really wasn't giving it up then
" How did you find that, it's been less than a week" she whispered,
" I have connections " he mumbled and she laughed a harsh bitter sound
" Of course, that you use when it suits you"
He frowned, his jaw tightening.
“That’s not fair.”
“Fair?” Leilani let out a bitter laugh, the hurt and confusion she’d been holding back for so long finally spilling out.
“You think this is about being fair? I’ve been trying to move on from you, Gustin. I’ve built a life for myself. It's been four years and you never once used your 'connections' to find your children" she asked, her voice thick with emotion.Gustin’s face softened, the many faces of the looked like the man she had once loved, still loved even though it was a stupid ideas. A man she had once trusted with everything.
“I don’t know what you want from me.”
"I want to meet my children. I want to be a father." He replied
“ I made mistakes—many of them—but we still have to talk about our kids. They deserve better than this.”
Leilani closed her eyes, the weight of his words pressing down on her.
“I don’t know what you expect me to say, Gustin. " She replied
" You already have enough responsibility, don’t you?”she asked nodding to the door where his new wife and their son had just disappeared through.
" They're still my children" She opened her eyes and looked at him,
“We’ll talk,” she said quietly, but she wasn't ready for it to be now.
"But not here. Not like this.”
Gustin's eyes narrowed,
" What do you mean by that" he asked and she sighed running a hand through her hair
"It means I'll think about it" she'll replied and he growled
"You'll think about it?They're my children, Leilani."
"Yes,.I know," she said, her voice firm.
"Which is why I said I'll think about it," she said finally.
"But I need time, you've been missing from our lives for four years. You can't just waltz back in." she hissed and Gustin swallowed his face hardening
. "Fine. " He nodded slightly
" You have one week, after that I'll take matters into my own hands."
