Chapter 227
Chapter 227
After hearing Dahlia's words, Joshua had no choice but to wait another two days.
But he was still worried about Ella. As soon as the ceremony ended, he saw Aurora and Dorian dancing in the crowd, so he walked over.
"Aurora, Dorian, come to Daddy."
Aurora and Dorian saw him and immediately squeezed through the crowd to run to him, looking up with eyes full of admiration.
"Daddy, you look so handsome in this outfit, so commanding," Aurora said with a smile, giving him a thumbs up.
But then she wrinkled her little face and asked worriedly, "Daddy, did you sleep with that lady? Are you going to have a little brother and then not want us anymore?"
The child's words pierced Joshua's heart like a needle.
He pulled Aurora and Dorian to a quieter pavilion nearby and patiently explained, "Everything Daddy is doing is to help your mommy get better. I didn't sleep with that lady, and there won't be any other children."
"I just saw your mommy leave angrily, and I'm worried she might go back alone first. You two go keep her company and make sure she waits for me for two more days, no matter what. After two days, when Mommy is better, we can all go home together."
Aurora nodded.
Dorian asked him, "When will Mommy get better?"
Joshua looked at Dorian and answered, "The high priestess told me she'll be better in two days. During these two days, watch Mommy and see if there's anything different about her."
Aurora and Dorian agreed.
When they were about to part, Aurora couldn't help but remind him, "Daddy, you can't kiss other ladies, and you can't like any woman except Mommy and me. We'll wait for you to come back."
Joshua bent down and kissed Aurora and Dorian on their foreheads, promising firmly, "Don't worry, Daddy only has you in his heart. Go take care of Mommy quickly. I need to handle some things first."
Aurora and Dorian were very understanding. The bonfire party had ended by now, and the two of them held hands and went back to their lodging.
Joshua watched their backs, thinking that as long as Ella could return to normal, he would do anything. As for Aurora's illness, he believed Samuel would definitely find a treatment.
When Aurora and Dorian returned to their lodging, they saw Ella packing her luggage, looking like she was really preparing to leave.
Aurora and Dorian exchanged glances and hurried forward to stop her. "Mommy, what are you doing? It's so late, why are you packing?"
Ella told them, "Your daddy has already married someone else, so he probably won't be in a hurry to go back with us. We don't need to wait for him. Let's leave first."
"Aurora, Dorian, check if you've left anything behind. We're leaving tonight."
She really couldn't stand staying here and watching Joshua live an intimate life with another woman. She didn't want to stay a moment longer; she just wanted to leave.
Aurora and Dorian stood still.
Dorian asked, "Mommy, do you really care that Daddy married another woman?"
Ella gave a bitter smile. "Didn't I tell you? That's his freedom. He can marry whoever he wants. I can't control that."
But all the moments she had spent with Joshua along the way flooded her mind. Their experiences abroad, everything he had willingly done for her during this time, and even how he was willing to kneel as punishment for her.
Such a man who obeyed her in everything had now become someone else's husband.
Ella realized she did care.
So she had to leave. If she stayed, it felt like her heart was being pierced by countless needles, with dense pain constantly spreading through her chest.
"Mommy, your curse should be lifted soon. That's a good thing," Dorian said, not only not sad but actually smiling.
"Daddy was right. Maybe you'll be back to normal in two days. We're not leaving. We'll wait for Daddy to come back." He immediately put the luggage Mommy had packed back in its place, then pulled her to sit on the bed.
Aurora also chimed in, "Right, Mommy, just wait peacefully for two days. When Daddy comes back, he'll explain everything to you."
Ella didn't understand what Aurora and Dorian meant. "You both trust him that much?"
"Yes! Daddy told us that he married that lady only for you."
"Don't be angry anymore. Daddy also said he only has you in his heart, no one else."
Afraid that Ella would really leave, Aurora squatted down to help her take off her shoes. Dorian brought over a basin of water and placed it by the bed. Aurora and Dorian squatted by the basin, carefully washing her feet.
Ella looked at them, feeling warmth rise in her heart.
Thinking about Joshua again, he always said everything was for her.
Could it be that he really only married someone else for her sake?
Ella had to admit that she no longer had the mind to think about Michael. Instead, her mind was full of concerns about Joshua. Could there really be some curse on her that was now being lifted?
It felt so unreal.
The children wouldn't let her leave, and they had washed her feet and made her lie down to sleep. She really couldn't refuse, so she could only listen to them.
Aurora and Dorian then climbed onto the bed, one sleeping on each side of her, sandwiching her in the middle so she had no chance to get out of bed and leave.
Ella thought, then she'd wait two more days. She wanted to see what Joshua could say then.
For the next two days, Joshua still didn't appear.
Finally, on the third morning, as soon as it was light, Joshua changed into the clothes he wore when he arrived, eager to see Ella, Aurora, and Dorian.
Dahlia reminded him, "The three days have passed. Your wife should have returned to normal. But remember, she will still leave you."
Joshua froze and turned to look at her. "Why?"
"If she's back to normal, she won't go looking for other men anymore. Why would she still leave me?" Joshua suddenly felt a bit panicked. If Ella still wanted to leave, what was the point of everything he had done?
Dahlia told him, "This is your destiny. Maybe it's for your child? Anyway, your marriage won't be smooth sailing."
Joshua suddenly understood. Only then did he remember that the medicine Aurora needed was still in Michael's hands. So in the end, Ella would still go find Michael to get the medicine?
Seeing that Dahlia seemed to know everything, he quickly asked, "Dahlia, the daughter I brought has some health problems. Can you help take a look and see if there's any way to treat her?"
Dahlia shook her head without hesitation. "I'm not a doctor. I can't cure illnesses. You'll have to find someone else."
Joshua didn't insist. He was already very grateful that others were willing to help him.
He bowed deeply to Dahlia, then hurried back to Ella's lodging.
It was still early when he arrived, and the three of them hadn't woken up yet.
Joshua tiptoed into the room and looked at the three people sleeping in the same bed, feeling warmth rise in his heart. He reached out and held Ella's hand, hoping she would see him the moment she woke up.
Perhaps his touch woke Ella, who had been sleeping lightly these past few days.
She opened her eyes, saw it was Joshua, instinctively pulled her hand back, and sat up. She glanced at Aurora and Dorian beside her, afraid of waking them, and carefully got out of bed. Without looking at Joshua once, she put on her clothes and walked out the door.
Joshua followed her out, uncertain whether she had really recovered. He tentatively apologized, "I'm sorry I'm only coming now. Did you rest well these past few days?"
Ella turned her back to him, her tone sour. "Why did you even come back? Shouldn't you stay with your newlywed wife forever?"
He actually did come back after three days. During these three days, he and that high priestess must have done everything, right?
Ella suddenly felt nauseous and wanted to vomit. Her displeasure was written all over her face.
Joshua tilted his head to look at her, clearly feeling that she wasn't as irritable and angry as before. Even when angry, she was quiet.
Perhaps the love curse had really been lifted.
He tried to take her hand. "I married Dahlia only to get her to help you. Don't be angry. I have no feelings for her at all. Besides, I'm not the only one she's married. I'm her tenth husband. Several before me were in the same situation as us—they left when things were done and never contacted her again. It'll be the same with her and me."
Ella still felt uncomfortable and shook off his hand.
But she didn't lash out and hit or scold him like before, saying hurtful things. Now she kept all her grievances inside, not making a fuss, bearing the pain alone.
"Ella, nothing really happened between her and me. You have to believe me. You're the only one for me in this lifetime." Seeing her silent, Joshua held her hand again and softened his voice to explain.
"Please don't be angry anymore, okay? Look, these past few days you haven't been making a fuss about leaving, and you haven't thought about Michael either. Doesn't that prove the curse in your body has really been lifted?"
Ella fell silent.
Although this was indeed the case, how could a man and a woman staying alone together for three days and nights have nothing happen? Maybe something did happen, and he just wanted to hide it from her.
Ella knew very well that she no longer thought about Michael, which might really be related to the curse being lifted. Thinking about her previous self, clearly pregnant with Joshua's child yet constantly talking about loving Michael, even she found herself shameless.
Now, what right did she have to blame Joshua for being with another woman for her sake? She should be more understanding and tolerant of him.
After trying hard to convince herself not to care, Ella turned around to face Joshua and asked with forced composure, "When are we going back?"
Seeing that she really had stopped making a fuss, Joshua thought she must have truly recovered.
He smiled, still holding her hand. "We'll pack up and leave right now."
Ella uncomfortably pulled her hand away and turned to walk away. "I'll go wake up Aurora and Dorian."
Watching her back, Joshua smiled with relief. This was the Ella he knew. For her, like this, no matter how much he suffered, it was worth it.
