Chapter 140
Ava looked at Joshua, listening to what he was saying.
She thought Joshua was defending Ella on purpose.
She scolded him angrily, "You've completely lost your mind. You're still speaking up for her even now. If those two kids were yours, why don't they have your last name?"
Samuel helped explain, "Mrs. Thomas, Aurora and Dorian really are Joshua's children. I personally did the paternity test for them."
If he hadn't seen the results in black and white with his own eyes.
They wouldn't have dared to believe it either.
Even now, he still hadn't recovered from the shock—he couldn't believe that Aurora, the child they had looked down on and refused to save, was actually Joshua's daughter.
Ava looked at him, "Are you trying to fool me too? Do you think I'm stupid enough to believe what you're saying?"
Samuel felt helpless, "How could we possibly lie to you about something like this? It's precisely because we know Aurora was Joshua's child that Joshua spent the entire night at Aurora's grave last night. He hurt his head himself."
Samuel still felt like this was all a dream.
He wished so much that when he woke up, everything would still be the way it was supposed to be.
Aurora would still be alive, and Joshua and Ella wouldn't be divorced.
Then their family of four would be so happy.
But things didn't turn out that way.
If Joshua wanted Dorian back, he'd probably have to pay a huge price.
Ava looked at Joshua, still unable to believe it, "Ella's children are really yours?"
If the children belonged to the Thomas family, why didn't Ella say so earlier? Why did she just watch Aiden pass away?
This had to be the two young people trying to fool her so she wouldn't give Ella a hard time.
She wouldn't easily believe what they were saying.
Joshua leaned against the headboard, looking completely drained, as if his soul had been sucked out.
His voice sounded weak and powerless, "Mom, Aurora and Dorian are my children. If I didn't know they were my kids, why would I be in so much pain?"
Joshua recalled Ella's coldness toward him just moments ago, and his heart couldn't help but ache again.
He was thinking about what he needed to do to stop Ella from taking Dorian away.
How to get Ella and Dorian to come back to him.
Dorian was his only child—he absolutely couldn't let them leave him.
"I don't believe it. If Ella's children are yours, why didn't you say so before? You knew how much your grandfather wanted you to have a child."
Ava was thunderstruck, unable to accept this reality for a moment.
Samuel was patient and explained to her, "Joshua himself didn't know who he was with that night, and Ella didn't know the children's father was Joshua either, so naturally they wouldn't have said anything."
"But if you really don't believe it, you can send someone to do a test with the father and son. Just don't hold grudges against Ella and the child anymore. After all, Dorian is the Thomas family's only bloodline. If you want them to come back in the future, it's going to be very difficult."
Ava was in a daze.
Looking at Joshua and Samuel's serious expressions, it didn't seem like they were lying to her.
She still felt there were problems everywhere and questioned Joshua, "Don't you know in your heart whether you slept with her or not that night?"
Joshua lowered his head, holding back the moisture in his eyes.
After choking up for a long while, he finally answered, "I was drunk at the time. The room was very dark. I didn't know it was Ella. When I woke up, Scarlett was beside me, so I thought the person I was with was Scarlett."
Ava suddenly understood, "You thought you slept with Scarlett, so that's why you brought Scarlett to your grandfather to break off the engagement?"
Joshua nodded.
If Ella hadn't left when he woke up that time, if she had stayed by his side.
He definitely would have taken responsibility for Ella.
They wouldn't have been separated for three years, with her giving birth to his children outside, suffering so much, and then when she came back to them, being wrongly accused and humiliated by them.
Joshua felt he deserved to die.
How could someone like him have the nerve to ask for Ella and the child's forgiveness?
But that was his own child.
How could he bear to let them leave?
"What a terrible mess this is."
Realizing that what Joshua and Samuel said was true.
That they had wronged Ella and the child.
Ava collapsed into a chair, feeling ashamed that just moments ago she had been humiliating Ella and Joshua.
So that smart and clever little one was her Thomas family's flesh and blood.
The Thomas family finally had an heir.
She was a grandmother now.
Ava was overjoyed. While happy, she was also afraid that Ella wouldn't be willing to bring Dorian back to the Thomas family.
She quickly said to Joshua, "Joshua, since Dorian is your child, you must remarry Ella no matter what, and bring Dorian back to the Thomas family to recognize his roots, understand?"
Joshua closed his eyes, no longer having the energy to respond to Ava.
He had long wanted Ella and the child to return to the Thomas family.
But now, the way Ella and the child treated him was like they were treating their worst enemy.
He had no idea what to do to get Ella and the child to forgive him and accept him.
Samuel comforted Ava, "Don't worry, Joshua wants to bring Dorian back to the Thomas family even more than you do. Just give him some time."
Ava had to agree.
Thinking that Dorian belonged to the Thomas family, she felt it was necessary to see Ella again and apologize to her in person.
This was what she, as an elder, should do.
After telling Joshua to rest well, Ava turned and left.
On the way back to the Lewis Villa with Zachary, Ella came clean about Dorian's background, "You were curious why Joshua wouldn't let go of Dorian, right? It's because Dorian is his child."
Zachary froze, looking at Ella in shock, "Joshua is Dorian's biological father?"
Ella nodded, "Actually, I only found out recently too. I just didn't expect Joshua to find out as well. We need to leave as soon as possible, or it'll be too late."
When Joshua got ruthless, she was no match for him.
If he insisted on fighting her for the child, she wouldn't stand a chance against him.
"Okay. I'll arrange it as soon as possible."
Zachary was still somewhat shocked that Dorian was actually Joshua's child.
He had always been wary of Joshua's existence.
After all, he was Ella's ex-husband. With Joshua around, he always felt insecure.
Afraid that Ella would rekindle her old feelings with him.
Now Dorian was his child too.
This intensified the sense of crisis in Zachary's heart.
Dorian, sitting beside them and being ignored, frowned unhappily and asked, "Mommy, what are you talking about? How could I possibly be that bad guy's child? I don't want him to be my dad."
Ella was driving and glanced at Dorian in the rearview mirror, comforting him, "It's the truth, but we won't be with him. Don't worry."
"I hate him. If it weren't for him, Aurora wouldn't have left us. Even if he is my dad, I don't want him."
Dorian's attitude was very clear. He turned and grabbed Zachary's hand, "Mr. Baker, let's leave quickly. I never want to see that bad guy again."
Zachary held him in his arms, "Okay, we'll leave very soon."
The three of them returned to the Lewis Villa.
Rhea hadn't come back from the hospital yet—Heath was with her.
But Mason had come back.
Not only had he come back, he had also gone to the police station, wanting to see Scarlett one last time.
As a result, Scarlett told him while lying on the operating table that she was pregnant with his son, but the baby was gone—Ella had sent someone to put drugs in her food, causing her to miscarry.
Mason didn't believe it.
He rushed back to ask Ella in person.
Seeing the three of them return, Mason got up and walked over, trying hard to suppress the grief of losing his son, and gestured to Zachary, "Zachary, take Dorian upstairs. I need to talk to Ella."
Zachary noticed something was off about Mason—his eyes were frighteningly red.
He was a bit worried, "What do you want to talk to her about?"
Actually, Ella knew what this was about.
Mason must have gone to the police station again.
She gestured for Zachary to take Dorian upstairs first, then went to sit in the living room.
Mason followed her, his voice cold, "What did you do to Scarlett?"
Hearing this accusation, Ella knew she hadn't done anything wrong.
It was also fortunate that she had discovered Scarlett's pregnancy and acted quickly, immediately finding someone to get rid of the child in her belly.
Otherwise, if Mason found out, he would definitely bail her out to have the baby.
Then he'd morally blackmail her, saying something like the child was pitiful and couldn't be without a mother, and then beg her to drop the charges against Scarlett.
Don't even think about it.
"I told you before, if you went to see Scarlett again, we'd never be done."
Ella took control, turning to stare at Mason, her expression cold and distant, "Looks like you really don't need me as a sister at all."
"I do need you as a sister, but why are you so cruel?"
Mason raised his voice, losing his temper, "You knew Scarlett was pregnant with my child, but you still went for the kill, sending someone to drug her and causing her to lose the baby."
"Ella, you're a mother yourself. How could you do it?"
When he saw Scarlett, she was lying on the operating table, covered in blood.
She kept pulling at him and crying, begging him to save their child.
But the child was already gone.
That was his and Scarlett's child, just gone like that.
Mason felt his heart being cut by knives, unable to bear such painful grief.
"Why couldn't I do it?"
Ella steadied her emotions and sat there, telling him coldly, word by word, "Four years ago, Scarlett drugged me, causing Joshua to assault me, and I had to leave home."
"Four years later, Scarlett knew Aurora was Joshua's child, but not only did she kidnap her, she also tried to kill both me and Aurora. I barely made it back alive."
"But my Aurora can never come back."
Ella stared hard at Mason, "She could be cruel enough to kill my child. Why should her child get to live?"
Those few sentences left Mason speechless.
He didn't deny that Scarlett could be quite vicious sometimes.
She had even asked him to harm Ella.
But the child in her belly was innocent.
Mason met Ella's gaze, his eyes welling up, "But that was my child, your nephew."
Ella laughed, "Are you sure it was your child? Before she made the headlines, she was having quite a wild time at nightclubs. Later I also saw her being very close with other men in the suburbs."
"Mason, don't be foolish. Scarlett just wanted to use that child to get you to save her, but she picked the wrong person to mess with."
