Chapter 361
Chapter 361
Heidi had stolen credit for Caroline saving Arthur's life, deliberately driving them further apart.
Arthur had been deceived too.
Caroline was angry at him. She'd wanted to leave him.
But she'd never hated him.
After soothing the children, Arthur had already replied, saying Isaac was willing to come over.
Caroline pulled herself together and turned to Blake. "This year, our two families will celebrate New Year's together."
Blake froze for a moment, pointing across the way. "With them?"
Caroline nodded, meeting Blake's gaze directly. "What happened before is in the past. Right now, he's genuinely helped me a lot. And we have Layla and Logan between us. That can't be erased."
"As long as the children are here, I can never completely cut ties with him."
"Besides," she paused before continuing, "I don't hate him that much."
Blake had been very reluctant initially, but after hearing Layla's words earlier, he fell silent. Then he nodded. "I understand."
"Also, Arthur's grandfather will be coming to celebrate New Year's with us. His health isn't good, so we need to be extra careful."
"Is he the old man who helped you a lot after you married into the Windsor family?" Seeing the determination in Caroline's eyes and knowing there was no room for negotiation, he stopped dwelling on it and asked about something else instead.
Caroline nodded. "That's right. It's him."
"I understand, Caroline. Don't worry. No matter how much I dislike Arthur, that's only directed at him. I won't make things difficult for an elderly person." Blake made his promise. Caroline smiled with relief. "Our Blake has grown up."
Blake turned his head away uncomfortably.
He felt it was unfair to Caroline, but if Caroline herself didn't mind, then he... would respect Caroline's wishes.
With the Windsor Group's involvement, Blake didn't need to worry about much.
He successfully terminated his contract with the entertainment company. The Windsor Group sent him a new contract. This contract didn't even need Caroline to have someone review it—his agent had already expressed approval.
"Forget about Best Actors—even many top-tier celebrities might not get terms this good. The Windsor Group wants to promote you. They've really put thought into this."
Listening to his agent's excited chatter, Blake's mood didn't improve much. He just nodded.
The agent looked confused. "Why don't you seem very happy? Don't tell me Ms. Hamilton really wants an inappropriate relationship with you?"
Blake sighed. "No."
The person Arthur wanted an inappropriate relationship with wasn't him—it was his sister.
Thinking about the family situation, he sighed heavily again. He didn't want to say anything more. He just signed his name on the contract. "Let's leave it at that."
Blake had thought that switching companies right before New Year's would keep him busy for a while, but when he got to the company, he learned that Arthur had specifically instructed them to let him start work after the New Year and rest well for now.
Blake paused, then went home.
The day before New Year's, Isaac was brought over.
Tiffany was the one who brought him, her face full of reluctance. "With Grandfather's health in this condition, how can you let him travel around like this?"
Arthur not going home for New Year's was one thing, but taking Isaac away too? She wasn't willing.
But now she couldn't control Arthur's decisions or persuade Isaac. She could only express her dissatisfaction indirectly.
Arthur listened to these words without any change in expression. He simply said flatly, "Since you've already brought him, you can go back now."
"You!" Tiffany was about to scold him some more when Isaac got out of the car.
"Coming here for New Year's was my own idea. It has nothing to do with the boy. I'm this old—are you still going to meddle in my business?"
Isaac had always commanded respect at home. Tiffany didn't dare argue back. She kept her head down. "Dad, that's not what I meant..."
"If that's not what you meant, then hurry back. Without this old man at Windsor Manor, you can relax a bit."
After sending Tiffany away, Isaac walked inside leaning on his cane, his face full of smiles. "How are things between you and Caroline now?"
Arthur gave a bitter smile. "Still the same."
"What you did before was truly absurd. Caroline not forgiving you is only natural. Don't try to force anything. If you really anger Caroline, I won't forgive you!"
He was in the middle of lecturing his grandson when he looked up and saw Caroline, Layla, and Logan already waiting at the elevator entrance.
Caroline pretended not to have heard and stepped forward. "Grandfather, you're here."
"It's so cold—why are you all standing outside? Let's go in!" Isaac tactfully changed the subject.
"Great-grandpa!"
"Great-grandpa, I'll press the elevator button for you!"
Layla and Logan also adored Isaac. They gathered around him, chattering away.
Isaac happily reached for gifts. Caroline quickly stopped him. "Gifts are for New Year's Day. You don't need to give them so early, Grandfather."
"New Year's is New Year's. This is just pocket money for the children."
Isaac still pulled out the gifts and gave them to the children.
Once they got home, he asked about Caroline's recent situation. Caroline answered honestly.
After her grandmother passed away, it had been a long time since she'd experienced being cared for by an elder like this.
Blake was there too. Isaac didn't know him and asked about his identity. Learning he was Caroline's brother, he warmed to him as well.
"I've always worried that Caroline was too lonely on her own. Now that you're here with her, you can support each other. That's good."
Isaac had high affability. In less than half a day, Blake had already warmed up to him considerably.
Watching this harmonious scene, Arthur's face also showed a smile.
Until Caroline spoke up. "Grandfather, which hospital did you go to for your examination? Can I see the test results?"
Isaac's expression changed. He glared at Arthur. "Didn't I tell you not to tell Caroline about this? Why did you tell her again?"
"I've always been concerned about Grandfather's condition. I asked on my own initiative." Caroline quickly covered for him. "Grandfather, how can someone get sick and not seek treatment? Tell me about your situation, and I'll ask around for you."
"Even if you don't trust me, you should have heard of my teacher's reputation. He'll definitely have a solution."
Gabriel was a medical authority. Though retired, Caroline was Gabriel's youngest disciple. As long as she asked, Gabriel would definitely be willing to help.
Isaac refused to say, but he couldn't withstand Caroline's persistent questioning. He finally relented and had Arthur give her the medical records.
It was a malignant tumor in his brain. Its current size was already pressing on nerves.
Right now, you couldn't tell just by looking at him, but the danger level was extremely high.
