NOW AGAINST THE MORETTI EMPIRE

NOW AGAINST THE MORETTI EMPIRE
Damien's pov

“Why come closer when you can just say whatever at your seat?” I asked.

“I know.” He said, his gaze flicking to the lifeless body I had shot.

“I need you to see my eyes properly, they say eyes don't lie. And about this man, you'll surely compensate us.” He walked back to his seat and sat.

“I'll explain, if that's what you really want to hear.” He added.

“Yes,” I answered. I needed to be sure he was telling the truth, I couldn't blindly believe him.

“Well, when it all happened I was still young, but I was also part of the Moretti Empire.” He revealed.

I couldn't believe my ears; I widened my eyes in shock.

“I was. But after that encounter and your father's death I left. While I was there I was young and stubborn, I always fought with your father. After seeing how the man I never liked or respected laid down his life for everyone, I couldn't hold back the guilt.” He said.

He walked to a drawer, pulled something out, and returned.

He held up the Moretti symbol, printed on paper.

I think he's telling the truth. But Father, why would you lay down your life for theirs? This is painful.

“My father was a good man! Stop spilling trash about him.” I warned, my tone cold.

“He is, truly, but he's just too good for this world. He should have left Lord Marco to face what he brought upon himself.” Isari said.

“You mean Lord Marco is the reason for my father's death?” I asked, though I already suspected the answer.

“Yes, he was. I knew no one would have told you this.” Isari said.

“Then it's a good thing he died!” I exhaled.

“Absolutely it is. Now he knows what dying feels like, and his daughter feels it too.” He muttered.

“What do you think I should do? I'm confused.” I admitted.

“Good question. I need you to stop fighting for the Moretti Empire! Stop fighting for Celine. They don't care about you, they want to use you to achieve their aims. And I don't think that's the life you want; I've seen you. Someone even said that you don't fit being a Mafia Don.” Isari said.

I knew it was Anderson who said that.

“So what?” I asked, arching a brow.

“Destroy the Moretti Empire since she isn't around. Avenge your father; avenge his death.” Isari advised.

“How? I'm trying to understand everything you said. Yes, Lord Marco is responsible for my father's death in the sense that he risked everyone's lives with his silly plans, but in the battle my father had a choice. You had a choice to let Lord Marco die! He had a choice to find an escape! He had a choice to come back to me! He had a choice to…” I couldn't finish as a hot tear rolled down my cheek.

I wiped it away.

“...I… I…” I paused, biting my lip and clenching my fist.

“You're right, he did have a choice, but he…”

“Stop! Stop! You're indeed heartless and a beast, just like Anderson said. How could you speak ill of my father after he did all of what you just said!” I thundered.

“No! I kept insulting him after his death because he saved Lord Marco! He should have been left to die! To die for his stupidity! We all warned him! We told him Lucas's plan was better, but no, he felt Lucas was intimidating him! He felt Lucas wanted to take his place!” Isari yelled at me angrily.

“You're driving me nuts.” I exhaled and placed my palm on my forehead. A lot was running through my mind.

“Isari, I still stand by what I told you earlier: stop speaking ill of my father. Stop using his story as entertainment for your men! I don't see anything entertaining in this story.” I said again.

“Yes, it's a tragic story I can never forget. I wished my men would know how loyal and dedicated someone can be and how witless it all seems.” He explained.

“I need you to stop. Find someone else fit to make that point.” I warned again.

“Now you know the story! Though I tried to keep mute, for your pleas I chose to reveal it to you. I told you to destroy the Moretti Empire… but you're still showing sympathy which they never showed you. It's fine. How about we unite Isari and the Moretti Empire?” Isari suggested.

I just stared at him, lost.

“I will head back now. Whatever I decide I'll let you know. But the part where you want Isari to unite with Moretti? That's impossible. Get your mind off that, I don't buy the idea.” I responded as I rose to my feet.

“Wait!” Isari called as our gazes met.

“What about this?” he asked, pointing toward the corpse.

“You mentioned earlier that you were ready to ally me with more men. I have weapons also.” I replied.

“I'll do it because it's you.” He said.

“Thanks.” I said, forcing a smirk.

“We need about two hundred men, two hundred weapons.” I offered.

“One hundred and ninety-nine men for two hundred weapons.” He said, gesturing to the body on the floor.

“Fine.” I exhaled and walked to the door.

“Damien.” He called.

I stepped back; he pointed to his table. My pistol and the key, how could I forget that?

I reached out to take them but he tossed a card at me.

“Place a call.” He said.

I took the card, unlocked the door and headed out. I signaled to my men; we took the elevator and were out fast.

We got to the car and sped off. I'd heard a lot today and needed to cool off, it was too much to take in.

How can I be with people whose pride and fear of competition made my father dead?

Celine, this is just the beginning of something worse. I'll make sure the Empire grumbles.
