Sophia's POV.
I slowly regained consciousness and I felt someone carrying me bridal style.
I opened my eyes slowly and gazed into the handsome face of Alexander Hayes. I breathed a sigh of relief knowing that the nightmare was finally over.
“You're going to be alright, love.” He said as he looked down at me realizing that I'd regained consciousness.
“Stephanie and Andrea?” I asked.
“They're going to be just fine too. They're coming behind us with Steve.” He said.
Suddenly, he froze, standing still. He quickly laid me down and technically pushed me behind him.
“W–what—” My voice trailed off as he moved a step to the left. He had pulled me behind him somehow....... cover me?
I quickly came closer to his shoulders from the back and shiveringly moved in an attempt to stand before him again but stopped mid-movement as my eyes widened and my mouth went utterly dry, while my lips parted.
Not again! For the second, maybe third time this day, he had his gun pointed.
For the second or maybe third time today, he had a bloodthirsty look in his eyes. But for the first time since I'd ever seen him, he had a totally and utterly complete murder resolution and bloodlust in his eyes. My legs wobbled like sticks of jelly. I sobbed softly. This shouldn't be happening.
Standing a foot away from us both, was Harvey Hamilton with his bloodthirsty look burning in his eyes, his lips thinning into a straight line and his gun pointed towards Alexander Hayes’ broad muscular chest.
Harvey let out his usual hysterical laugh. His whole body shook at the intensity of his laughter and his eyes were madly wide. He's a psycho, I swear!
“I never imagined the day would come when I finally point a gun at your heart, Alexander Hayes.”
His eyes were bloodshot as he continued laughing.
“You've never looked this vulnerable I might say!” He resumed his throaty laughter. Alex didn't even flinch.
He fixed Harvey with cold eyes. The pride and mightiness in his posture wavered not a bit. He didn't look like a man who was about to be shot. How can someone possess such a level of composure at such a critical time? Behind him, I shuddered.
And here I thought the nightmare was finally over.
“U–hhhh... Ple–please..... d–do....” Unfathomable words escaped my lips as my tongue got tangled. My voice was shaking and my eyes shivered with fear.
I shook my head, indicating what I truly wanted to say.
Please don't shoot him!
I've been in Harvey's grip for three days and I've not felt for a single second as hopeless as I felt at this moment.
Because I knew it. I knew this was what he wanted. I knew this had been his aim all along.
I knew he wanted to kill him, to shoot him. I knew he wanted to kill Alexander Hayes.
“You have no idea how long I've waited for this.” Harvey smiled smugly, totally ignoring me. “I've been waiting for this since the moment I suffered an enormous downfall because of you. Since the moment I was forced to divorce Nicole. Since the moment I saw your picture in a magazine as the youngest billionaire in New York!” He screamed.
“Nothing in this world can ever amass the hatred I feel for you, Alexander Hayes. I have vowed to take my revenge since the moment I was disowned by my family's company. Disowned all that I had. It just took me some years to regain the power I had back then.”
He shook his gun playfully.
“And with this power, I now have the advantage of pointing this gun at your disgusting features. “I must give my thanks of course, to two people who lured you here.” My eyes widened.
“I thank you from the bottom of my heart, Stephanie!” He pointed the gun in a different direction and that was when I noticed that Stephanie, Andrea, and Steve stood behind us. Thankfully, Andrea's shoulder had stopped bleeding, and they were both leaning on Steve. I turned to glower at Harvey only to realize that he had turned the gun at me.
“And you! Sophia O'Brien. You've been of the most help here.” He continued to laugh.
“I would've loved to thank you, Andrea, as well.” He licked his lips evilly. “However, I plan to thank you,” he licked his lips again, “in my way.”
He chuckled at his joke and then turned the gun to point it at Alex again.
“Your last wish, Alexander Hayes?”
I shuddered fiercely and silent tears escaped my eyes.
Alex regarded Harvey as if he was a bug, totally unaffected by him. “Unfortunately for you, Hamilton, I have none.”
I shivered. Harvey let out a throaty laughter.
“What? Too scared to even think of a last wish?”
A muscle somewhere in Alex's beautiful face twitched.
“Last wishes are for those about to undergo death.” He explained, frostily. It was as if someone set Harvey's butt on fire. He went mad.
“You bastard!” He placed his finger directly on the trigger. “You'll wish you had a last wish once you're a corpse.” He snarled.
“Count the shots I'll grind through your body because if you—”
My ears whistled as some mad screeching I couldn't fathom escaped me. It all happened in a matter of seconds. A shot was fired. Its frightening sound echoed through the whole building. Almost unconsciously, I buried my face into Alex's solid shoulder, shutting my eyes as I shivered helplessly. I was scared of opening my eyes to see that the bullet had ripped through Alex's chest.
A manly scream was heard and the loud thud of something hitting the ground echoed through my ears.
I sobbed softly. I didn't want to open my eyes. I know this must be a nightmare.
Did he just kill Alex? Oh God! No! What should I do?
But how is it that he was shot and I'm still leaning on his shoulder? I froze. Wait a minute.
I cautiously, slowly lifted my head off his shoulder and blinked.
He was not looking at me. His expression was the same as it was before the bullet was shot.
Alexander Hayes was still looking in front of him.
I could still hear the manly groaning and the tortured scream. I turned towards the source. My eyes widened.
“CURSE YOU! AHHHHHH!!!”
Harvey held his right hand in his left one as the former had blood gushing out from it. I jumped in shock.
