Chapter 84

Alex's POV.

“I'll be there tonight,” I muttered to her. “To keep you company but who knows what we might end up doing? Just like last night when you only came here for some answers. Quite unexpected, wasn't it?” I winked.

“Unexpected?” She smirked. “Yeah?” I was confused.

She was watching me with a mischievous smile as she leaned up on her tiptoes to whisper in my ear. “You think I just shave my legs for no reason?”

Her words surged a wave of heat through my body, leaving my mouth hanging half open.

She pulled back and walked towards the elevators, giving me the kind of look when she knew she had the upper hand this time.

I could notice the blush forming on her cheeks as she stepped inside the elevator.

“I've been ready for you for quite some time, Mr Hayes.” She said just in time before the doors shut in my face.

Leaving me standing there like a lost puppy.

After several seconds, I finally blinked.

Fuck!

*******

I was typing on my laptop at my office in the downtown branch when the door swung open and Emma walked in with an annoying smirk plastered on her face.

How did she even know I was going to be here?

“Hey, Alex.” She seated herself at the desk across from my chair. I remained quiet.

“So you're not going to acknowledge me? Is this about that picture?” She sounded a bit too cheerful.

“Yes,” I replied through gritted teeth.

A satisfied smile reached her lips. “Finally. I should've put that idea in your head a long time ago. Now if you're going to ask me—”

“Just stop talking.” My voice came out irritated.

Dealing with Emily has made me realize what people like Emma are after.

“What?” She seemed taken aback.

“Let's get one thing straight, Emma. I have no intention of being in a relationship with you.”

Her jaw dropped slightly. “What? Why not?”

“Since you're too absorbed in your little world to notice, let me remind you that I've got a girlfriend.”

She scowled. “Who? That secretary girl? What was her name ag—”

“As I was saying, I have a girlfriend and what you did really could've messed things up between us and that's something I wouldn't want to happen again. If you ever do something like that again and she gets hurt, I'll make sure your father's company doesn't see another dawn. Do you understand?”

“What?” She chuckled in disbelief. “What exactly can you do?”

“A lot.” I looked at her sternly.

Her smile dropped. “You can't just threaten my father's company.” “I think I just did.”

“But Alex.” She whined. “Why are you doing this? We were so good. Don't you remember our time together in college?”

“I was a manwhore, Emma. I slept with many girls throughout high school and college. Honestly, I don't even remember sleeping with you. How am I sure you're not just making that up?”

She gasped.

“Either way, it's all in the past now.”

A look of hurt crossed her face. “I just really thought we were something.” I chuckled.

“You pretend to have feelings for me. I'm pretty sure I saw you leave the club with another guy.”

Her eyes grew wide. “You saw that? Why didn't you say anything? Is that what this is about?”

I rolled my eyes and let out a breath. “ No, Emma. I don't care about you and your relationships with other guys. I never did.”

She scowled at me. “You know what, I don't care about you either.” “I know.” I shrugged. Her eyes narrowed at my indifference.

She huffed out of the room, slamming the door shut on her way.

I shook my head and looked down at my watch, a smile forming on my lips. Shutting my laptop, I got up to leave.

Sophia, here I come.

Sophia's POV

I was about to leave the office, having finished my tasks for the day, and too eager to get home to Alex when I spotted Steve walking out of the doors too.

He offered to drop me off at my apartment, to which I reluctantly agreed.

I walked with him to the VIP parking space, he opened his car door and I got in.

He started the car and we drove off, out of the parking lot.

The ride did not exactly turn out as silent as I'd expected it to be.

Things had gotten pretty electrified back when I opened Harvey's topic the other day when he took me to the business dinner. I had snapped at him and he lied to me.

“Are you fine?” He started softly.

He was looking at the road before him, moving the steering wheel effortlessly, as his face was as peaceful and soothing as ever.

There was no point in being upset with Steve. Alex is my boyfriend now so I'm sure he'd tell me whatever it is now.

I smiled at Steve.

“I'm fine,” I said, nodding. Some seconds later, he spoke again.

“It was not my intention to lie to you the other day.” His voice was serious and a bit apologetic.

I turned to him and blinked.

“Huh?”

“The matter concerning Harvey, I didn't mean to lie.” He sighed. “It's just that......that particular subject, it is not one I wish to relive. It's somehow sensitive.” He said in a low voice.

I spoke softly. “It's true. It might have gotten on my nerves then but I know now that you have your reasons for not telling me.” I smiled at him.

“Well, I've decided that I want to tell you.” He looked at me wearily. My eyes burned with curiosity and I eyed him, interested. “Really?”

He laughed when he looked at me. “God, you should see the look on your face right now. And yeah, I figured you at least deserved a right to know.”

Finally!

After a minute or so, Steve took a deep breath, eyed the road, and spoke.

“Harvey Hamilton, he was married.” He paused for a moment. “To my sister, Nicole, eight years ago.”

I gasped.
