Chapter 60 This Is My Family's Company

Juniper couldn't choose the first option and was left to grapple with the second.

Especially in front of the whole office.

Just moments ago, everyone was praising Juniper, but now the room was dead silent.

Something was off.

How did Ethan suddenly become so logical and clear-headed?

Shouldn't this be Sylvia's line?

Did Ethan secretly get some tutoring before joining?

Seeing Juniper's displeased expression, Elara stepped in front of Ethan.

As the leader, she had to stand her ground.

"You've got some nerve. First day at the company, and you're already causing trouble just because Mr. Blackwood has your back. Where's the sense in that? Even if Mr. Blackwood were here, I'd say the same thing!"

Juniper had wised up.

Seeing Kieran standing behind Elara, she knew her position couldn't suppress them, so she decided to play the victim.

She pulled Sophia aside and said, "Sophia, you've seen how cutthroat the workplace can be, especially at Blackwood Heritage Group. Having some skills and craftsmanship isn't enough; the most important thing is to have Mr. Blackwood's favor. Without that, you won't even have a stable seat in the office..."

Sophia, being young and soft-hearted, couldn't stand seeing someone in a weak position.

Plus, Juniper had brought her in, so she felt she had to side with Juniper.

Besides, Ethan's earlier comment was indeed a bit harsh.

She tugged at Ethan's sleeve, giving him a look.

Ethan, feeling quite pleased with himself, didn't catch the deeper meaning behind Sophia's gesture.

He was too focused on the fact that she was touching him.

Elara noticed this and, not wanting to escalate things in the office, spoke gently, "Ms. Hart, Ethan is a bit free-spirited and sometimes speaks without much thought. You've been in the core business department of Blackwood Heritage Group for years and are a senior postdoctoral advisor in archaeology at East City University. Your expertise is far beyond what a junior like me can compare to."

"Mr. Blackwood asked me to come not because you lack ability, but because I'll be representing Blackwood Heritage Group at the upcoming state-wide artifact appraisal competition. If you were competing, there'd be no need for me. But since you're an expert and a judge for the competition, Mr. Blackwood had no choice but to send me. My knowledge is limited, and I hope you can guide me."

Elara's words were a mix of flattery and truth, aiming to appease Juniper.

After all, her only reason for being at Blackwood Heritage Group was to participate in the competition.

Offending Juniper, a judge, could jeopardize her chances.

Though she seemed to concede, Elara was careful with her words.

She only mentioned that Ethan sometimes spoke without thinking, not that he was wrong.

She also didn't lower herself too much, acknowledging Juniper's significant contributions to the company.

Juniper, after hearing this, didn't say much more.

She waved her hand dismissively and, with a few grunts, indicated she wouldn't pursue the matter further.

She then took Sophia around the office, eventually seating her next to Ethan.

Ethan was overjoyed, bombarding Sophia with questions, eager to be close to her.

Sophia, though not entirely rejecting him, seemed preoccupied, occasionally responding and often asking about Kieran.

Elara, with her office door open, heard everything clearly.

She sighed, realizing Ethan's romantic journey was off to a rocky start.

Juniper's move to bring Sophia into the office was strategic: to keep Ethan close, monitor Elara, and potentially match Sophia with Kieran.

Just then, a commotion erupted in the office.

Maya was arguing with a girl.

Maya had been instructed to add more people to Elara's team.

Instead of hiring new staff, she decided to reassign some existing members, which should have been a quick fix.

But the girls were resistant, one even snapping at Maya, "Never saw you this eager before!"

Maya, caught in a tough spot, couldn't afford to offend these well-connected employees.

Elara, not wanting to create more tension, stepped out to intervene, but noticed Maya's expression had brightened.

Seraphina had entered the office.

It was around 10 AM, and likely Kieran had finished his tasks and brought Seraphina along.

Seraphina, having overheard the girl's comment, asked, "What did you say?"

The girl, clearly upset, didn't recognize Seraphina and snapped, "Who are you, kid? Go home and stop causing trouble!"

Seraphina, taken aback, had walked in with the mindset of a leader inspecting the office, only to be met with hostility.

She scanned the room, and those who recognized her quickly pretended to work, not daring to offend her.

Seeing this, others, though unsure of her identity, sensed her importance and also sat down, leaving the girl standing awkwardly.

Seraphina cleared her throat, "This is my family's company."
