Chapter 151: Nemesis
Chapter 151: Nemesis
The sun had risen in the sky when he left the red chamber.
But instead of entering the coach Jason had driven him with, he decided to take a walk along the streets of the city.
As he walked by, he saw the locals who were already up and going about their morning activities. They noticed him and gasped in surprise. Then they bowed in greeting and hurried away.
Some kept turning back to stare and hushed whispers rang in different directions.
Good, that was why he had decided to take a walk. So, they all could see for themselves that he was not mad.
After today, anyone who still went ahead to spread such a rumor was only seeking his attention. And when he answered, they would hate it.
Now that he was back, he had a lot to do.
First of all, he had to go to Sabine to figure out how he could use the dragon's remains to breach the wall of the fortress.
Secondly, He needed to get ready his army for the invasion. However, he did not want to utilize his official army.
Rojan had told the elders Candice was traveling outside the realm, he had upheld his word. Which was smart because if they knew she had been captured by his uncle, it would be a negative stain on her reputation.
The royal house was unforgivable when it came to spinning false tales.
If he made use of the official army, then he might as well have taken a microphone and announced to the whole world that his mate was kept in captivity by his uncle.
Fuck, what she must be going through at his hands right now.
Did Waylon force himself on her?
He shook his head to clear it, pushing away the thought. It scalded him to imagine his alleged father, that was his greatest enemy, raping his woman.
To an extent, he knew his uncle's capabilities. Rape was not in his arsenal for torture, he was too proud to force himself on a female.
While the thought relieved him, he knew that it did not excuse the other options of torture which his uncle, unfortunately, excelled at.
He needed to act quickly, the more she remained with Waylon, the less her chances of survival.
Previously, he had considered her dead due to Waylon's silence. But now after re-examining the situation. She could not be dead, because if he killed her outrightly, he would have no more cards against him.
He needed an edge, that was why he had hunted her non-stop. So he would not just throw away his leverage without utilizing it.
He needed to form his own temporal army, which may consist of his right-hand man Rojan, Jason, a few trusted sentinels, and loyal soldiers. Then request backup from an ally.
Which ally could he trust in times like these?
The other Wolfen planes had sworn to stay away from the family power tussle. They wanted no part of it in the past and he doubted that they would change their mind to fight his battles now.
Another option was gathering paid fighters, which were mercenaries across the various realms. That too, had a downside because he did not fully trust them.
They were in it for the money. And if another buyer, Perhaps his uncle bribed one or two, they could divulge his plans and deliver him up to his uncle.
Rendering his plans and preparation useless.
He needed real allies that he could trust. Some kind of reliable connection that he could depend on.
A word slipped into his mind: The Pledge.
His maternal heritage.
Wayne came out of his musings and realized he had made it to the entrance of his mansion.
He had been so consumed by his thoughts that he had no idea how he had made it home.
Striding into his compound, he saw his coach outside his house. Jason has arrived home, as expected.
He had just made it up the front steps into the living room when he saw Rojan and Jason huddled together, peering down at a medium-sized scroll.
What were they seriously reading?
"Wayne, you're back," Rojan raised his head from the scroll.
"Yes, I am," he replied, eyeing the scroll skeptically.
"How did the meeting with the elders go?" Rojan inquired.
"Not bad, I wager from now going forward, they would mind their business," he said casually.
"Great, those old men are truly overbearing. You seem to know how to handle them perfectly," Rojan remarked.
"What are you both reading?" He asked.
"Oh, Jason received a letter from one of the epsilons at the gate. It was addressed to me, so I opened it and found out it was actually meant for you," Rojan explained.
Meant for me?
He walked over and held his palm up, Rojan gave him the letter. As he took it, he asked "Who sent it?"
The letter read thus; To Rojan or Whoever is in charge of the throne.
It is with great delight that I write to inform Wayne that his mate is in the confines of my fortress.
In case you were wondering about her whereabouts.
I hear the rumors that the supposed king is in the grip of madness. I do not believe such rumors, but if it were true. I encourage the imposter on the throne to step down at once and submit himself to his true king, which is I, Waylon Wyatt. Former Beta and Prince of the royal house of Wyatt.
Or face the consequences.
However, if Wayne is well and the rumors are a coy to a propaganda. I suggest he steps down and submit himself to me as I now have his mate in my custody.
Wayne, if you refuse to do as requested, I will send you a piece of her flesh. For every week that passes until there is nothing left of her.
The choice is yours.
Waylon Wyatt.
Wayne blinked at the letter.
So finally, Waylon had broken his silence.
He could not believe that this evil being was the person that gave him life. The knowledge pained him so greatly that his stomach lurched in repulsion.
He wished he could remove his blood and refine it, then receive it again with no traces of Waylon in it. He hated himself for knowing the truth, it was infinitely better for him to endure when he just saw him as a greedy uncle.
Now, he saw him as a wicked father.
A man that was too far gone for any form of reconciliation. He was too obsessed about the throne and had lost sight of the most important things that matter in life, like family.
For that sole reason, he would never have this throne. He would ensure that his dream never came through, with every breath that he took.
He would be his nemesis.
And destroy him.
