Chapter 150: The Charge II

Chapter 150: The Charge II
The entire atmosphere had changed with his sheer presence, and the elders cowered in their seat, uncomfortable, scared even.

They had just been mocking him and here he was before them, standing tall.

"I hear you have all been looking for me," Wayne said and narrowed his eyes at them, "Well, here I am."

Everywhere was silent.

Thaddeus looked to Kostis to say something, but he rapidly averted his gaze. He shifted his gaze to Mathias, who dropped his eyes and started to fiddle with the hem of his cloth. His eyes finally settled on Augustus who had a smirk on his face.

Clearing his throat, Thaddeus spoke up "Indeed, we have looked for you because we were worried about you."

"Worried?" Wayne's lips parted in a smug smile "Did Rojan not tell you I was on a trip outside the realm?"

Mathias fidgeted with his hands "Err..he did. However, there are some rumors going around the city. We needed you to return so as to dispel such vile assumptions."

Wayne glared at them "You mean the rumors you spread about yourselves? Did you think you could get rid of me that easily?"

Augustus put a hand to his temple and closed his eyes. Thaddeus scratched his chin and Kostis swiped at the sweat on his forehead.

"Not that I expected much from you all, but this is the height of disappointment. Pillars of the plane that should hold it together in my absence are the ones seeking to create tension and chaos," Wayne thundered fiercely.

In a powerful display of strength, Wayne breezed through the hall in a blur, kicking at each pillar made of brick and mortar.

The pillar shook and cracked, it could not withstand the force of the impact and began to collapse to the ground.

The elders screamed and whimpered as their elevated platforms crumpled to the floor.

Dust filled the air and debris lay in pieces on the floor.

"For heaven's sake, Wayne. Do you want to kill us?" Augustus cried out in a shrill voice, on the floor, amidst the remains of what was left of his chair.

"I have no desire to kill you old men, but I want you to get off your high horses and look at me at eye level when I speak to you," Wayne sneered, then added, "You seem to forget who you are dealing with."

Gradually, the elders began to rise from their flattened position on the ground. The wooden part of their chairs had broken to pieces while their built-up podiums had been leveled down.

Murmurs and grumbling filled the air as they found a piece of broken stone to sit on, with their feet touching the ground.

"This is insulting to our personality, why do you bully us?" Mathias complained.

"Since you no more have your high chairs, Perhaps, sense will snap back into your heads so you can carefully consider your next actions going forward,'' he told them.

"Now that you are back, I think we prefer Rojan," Kostis murmured.

"I told you all, her ladyship, Candice was the best amongst them. Can you put her in charge of the assembly meetings?" Augustus requested.

"Why, so you can manipulate and trouble her?" Wayne grated.

"She is more endearing and gentler to reason with. Better than you that intimidates us and Rojan that ignores us," Augustus retorted.

"My Queen will make that decision herself upon her return from her travels, and just to be clear. Anyone, I mean anyone that gives her a hard time will have me to contend with it," Wayne notified them.

"When are we to expect her back, when does she return?" Augustus hastily asked.

"As soon as possible, when she returns there shall be a coronation," Wayne informed them and turned on his heel to leave when Thaddeus quickly spoke up.

"Just out of curiosity, to be abundantly clear on this issue. Were the rumors true? Where you ever mad?"

Wayne stood, facing the door for a few moments. Then slowly he turned around.

"Listen and listen carefully," he began "I have a message for you all, and you should do well, to tell your spies to spread it across the various planes."

He glowered at them, his eyes moving from one elder to another "If I ever hear any more talks of a mad king, I will come to their homes like a thief in the night. I will emerge from the darkness, slide out from the shadows, and slit their throat while wrenching their head from their bodies. I will snatch out their hearts and bathe in the pool of their blood."

Wayne let a cynical smile spread his lips "Then they will all know, how mad I can be."

With that being said, he turned on his feet and exited the room.

Leaving the elders flustered and terrified.
