Chapter 148: History Repeating Itself
Chapter 148: History Repeating Itself
"Why did you give me this information when you know I could lose my throne as a result? It should have stayed buried forever," Wayne pointed out.
Aragon should have taken it to his grave. He did not have to know, did not need to know that the man he had always loved and called father was in fact, his uncle.
And the man he hated deeply was the man who had fathered him. The one who had made his biological mother die out of depression, denying him the opportunity to know her. Then he had gone ahead and killed the mother who had loved and raised him.
He hated that Waylon's blood ran in his veins.
"I do this solely for your own benefit, I see a pattern. History is trying to repeat itself, so I wanted to warn you," Aragon replied.
"My benefit?" He asked, confused.
"I heard your mate ran away from you. Did you drive her away with your ambitions and high standards? Did you mistreat her just like your father did his mate?" Aragon asked, his voice holding an accusing undertone.
Wayne opened his mouth to tell him that Waylon and him were nothing alike. That he would never reject his child because he was a half breed or a different species.
Yet when he opened his mouth to defend himself, he was left speechless, unable to say a word.
Because the truth stared him in the face.
He had rejected his mate because she was human, just as his father had rejected him for being a half-breed.
Secondly, his father had been driven by his ambition for the throne and deserted his mate to depression and death.
Whereas on his own part, he had been so consumed with his own expectations, that he had hurt his mate so badly and she had run into danger.
So instead of defending himself, he cleared his throat and asked "How do you know what happens in my house?"
A glint entered Aragon's eyes "From your Chief of staff, Earnest."
Oh wow, Aragon had spies watching him too?
Who else had their people in his home?
"I know what might run through your mind, but I sent Earnest here for your good. Your father told me to watch over you. Earnest is here as a friend, not a foe," Aragon explained.
As he should be, because he had never had cause to suspect him. The man was honest to a fault.
"My father, King Warren, asked you to watch over me?" He probed, touched that his father would entrust his welfare to an elder, just as he did his safety to Tempe Baltasar, Rojan's late father.
"King Warren worried about you deeply before he died. He was so perturbed that he did not succeed in removing the borders from the Hinterlands. He was eager to leave a conducive environment, where you could rule with ease. So even if the truth came out eventually, you would not be ousted away," Aragon told him.
So, that was why his father had been so desperate to unite the Hinterlands and the Central City. He was so invested in removing the stigma surrounding half-breeds and purebloods.
And it was all because of him!
He felt his heart pound in his chest.
Everything his father had done was for him and his future as king.
Because he too, was a half-breed. He was one of them.
And Candice had accomplished his father's wish. Indirectly securing his throne for him.
Unknowingly, she had paved the way for him. Acting as a support system for his future.
Damn, he had been so wrong about her. She was everything he needed and more.
Aragon was right, he had been walking in the footsteps of his father. Making the same mistakes that he made, before he realized it.
He was ready to seek redemption and correct his mistakes.
In summary, he had two fathers. One that had rejected him and one that had accepted him.
One that had despised him and one that had gone to the limits to secure a life for him.
King Warren Wyatt was the only father he had known and will always know. Nobody could ever replace him.
As for Waylon, he might have sired him, but he would never consider him to be his father.
And he would make him pay dearly for the sins he had committed against him as an uncle and as a father.
Anger began to simmer and burn within him. It was a new type of rage, one of purpose and of vengeance.
He was done feeling sorry for himself.
He was done wallowing in guilt and blaming himself for the things he had done.
It was time for retribution.
