Chapter 145: Saved

Chapter 145: Saved
He lay on the ground with the sword stuck in his heart and blood sipping out of his wound.

Instead of an excruciating pain,

A peace like no other engulfed him as his heart slowed with every breath he took.

He lay still, unmoving as the world began to darken before his eyes.

Then suddenly the door burst open and Rojan, Earnest, alongside Jason, rushed to his side.

However, there was another odd person that loomed over him.

It was Aragon.

The oldest elder in the royal house, a millennial old werewolf. A member of the council, a former Zeta and War general in his time, and a descendant of one of the founding fathers of plane Weode.

A man full of wisdom.

He had just taken notice of their presence when his eyes rolled back in his head.

"Give him to me," he heard the elder's voice say.

Then he felt his body being lifted from the ground and frail hands that were old and wrinkly snuggled around him. Unexpectedly, sharp fangs sank into his neck, and hot pain jolted through his body.

He jerked as power as potent as electricity bolted through his body.

Then he grew still once more and as everything blurred into darkness.

A bright light shone directly at him.

He raised his fingers to block the light that shone on his face.

He tried to pry his lids open, but the light was too bright.

What was this white light? Was he dead? Had he finally crossed over?

So, he was free at last.

Free of every burden, every guilt. He would now see his father and mother, all the kings before him, and prostrate before their feet. So, they could welcome him into their abode and he would take his place at their side.

He was still musing to himself when he heard a male voice rasp above him "Are you awake? Open your eyes, Wayne," he heard Rojan's voice scold him.

What?

He forced his eyes open and saw Rojan hunched over, above him, beaming an oil lamp at his face. He quickly shut his eyes, pretending to still be unconscious.

What the hell? He was still alive, but how?

And he felt totally fine.

He did not feel the blade of the sword tearing his heart. He did not feel his beast's rage and a beckoning madness. He did not feel trapped in his beast's form, unable to return back to his manly physical features.

His sanity had returned and he was fully in control.

How?

By the body heat present in the room, he sensed four bodies with him. From their scent, he knew Rojan, Jason, Earnest, and probably Aragon were gathered together with him.

"Open your eyes, Wayne. I saw you the first time," Rojan's voice drawled with annoyance.

He clamped his eyes shut, too ashamed to face them.

"So, you know what you did. You scared the living daylights out of me!" Rojan thundered.

Blimey.

He wished he had actually passed on to the afterlife rather than face the wrath of Rojan. He must be seriously pissed.

"Will you open your eyes and look me in the eye or will you continue to pretend you are asleep?" Rojan demanded.

Well, if he had to face him eventually, why not face him now?

He opened his eyes and peered at the people standing above him. His eyes traveled from one face to another and then moved on to take in his surroundings.

He instantly recognized the familiar settings. He was in his room, on his bed. Oh, how greatly he had missed the comfort of his room.

"Do you have nothing to say to us?" Rojan probed, his face was twisted in a frown.

"You just had to go snitch on me, didn't you?" He murmured to Jason.

"Forgive me, my Lord," Jason's eyes dropped to the floor and he shuffled on his feet.

Then his attention shifted to Earnest "How fares your back? I do apologize for attacking you in my irrational state."

"You do not have to apologize to me my lord, I am glad that you have returned back to us," Earnest gruffly said with a broad smile on his lips.

This would be the first time, in all the decades he had worked with him, that he would have seen Earnest relax enough to produce a smile.

Strangely, it was a nice sight to behold. He should smile more often. It did a lot to soften his otherwise, sharp features.

"Do you not see me here or am I invisible to you?" Rojan asked, his ire still burning hot.

"Rojan, my dear brother…" he began but trailed off. He was lost for words on how to explain himself.

"You wanted to leave me behind, to escape alone and leave me here," Rojan raked a hand through his hair "That was really selfish of you."

"Give us some privacy," he said to Earnest and Jason, who happily nodded at exited.

Aragon sat in the corner of the room, on a chair and watched quietly.

Wayne contemplated if he should speak in front of the elder. But after considering it, he decided to speak with him present. After all, over the decades, he had proven to be more reliable than the other elders.

Unlike the rest who were sneaky and self-serving, he seemed to genuinely care for him and the plane. To an extent, he was trustworthy.

After the demise of his father, he was one elder who had always been on his side. Showing his support and sharing his wealth of knowledge to ensure that he was on the right path.

Wayne had no idea what he had done to him.

But whatever it was, it had returned his sanity back to him.
