Chapter 143: Regret II

Chapter 143: Regret II
He...

missed her.

Would be happy to see just a glimpse of her face.

To see her smile at him shyly with those cute cheeks of hers, or frown at him sternly with the fire in her eyes when she argued with him.

Her soft chin would be set at a stubborn angle, and her wee little mouth would be spewing out human rights and modern civilization topics.

She was an open book. Pure and honest, yet with a subtle push to make you do things her way.

His confinement in this room and the recent ordeal had made him realize that his feelings for her ran deeper than he had allowed himself to believe. The emotions he had thought were fickle and would fade with time, remained constant.

Tormenting him daily.

These days he always found himself thinking about her. Wondering how she was coping in the den of his uncle. It was strange that his uncle had not sent a letter demanding for anything, and using her as his bargaining chip.

Which meant two things:

His uncle had other plans in mind for her.

Or She was dead already.

The latter frightened him greatly. It was scary to even consider.

If he was somehow able to overcome this madness and go to save her.

Would she be able to forgive him?

Could she overlook his mistreatment of her and take him back?

Would she be willing to start over with him?

At this moment, the throne he had worked so hard to secure paled in comparison to what joy she had brought him.

If only he had not written such a vile contract, she would still be here with him, by his side.

He wanted her back.

A future without her was bleak and dark. Previously, he had been so wrong to think he could live without her.

To imagine that he wanted another to be queen in her place.

A misconception.

She was worthy of that status. Had proven to him that she was more than enough with her gift of love.

She was everything that was good and he was everything that was bad.

Everything that had gone wrong in his life at the moment, originated from his maltreatment of his mate.

He had failed his people.

The people he swore to protect as their king. If they clamored for his head in secret, it would not take long before they would gather together and clamor for it in public.

The elders would seize the opportunity and utilize it to their benefit.

Perhaps, it was better to die with his dignity still intact than to die in public as a mad monster and be a disgrace to his ancestors, his fathers before him.

Great Kings who had ruled with gracefulness and left a powerful legacy.

He would be doing everyone a favor by dying.

A swift end.

An honorable one.

He felt bad to disappoint Rojan, he knew that his death would devastate him. However, his death would free him and take away his burden.

If he wanted to take action, now was the best time when the beast was in a state of tranquility.

But there was nothing around for him to use to end himself, to end it all and be free of this guilt and regret.

The room was completely empty save for the chair that was far away from his reach. Also, his hands were restrained so he could not harm himself as well as others.

Rojan was such a thoughtful person.

He loved him greatly and was grateful to have such a brother in a friend.

But he needed to do this to be at peace.

He was pondering on how to execute himself when the door cracked open a fraction and Jason walked in bearing food and drinks on a tray.

His eyes immediately locked on the sword at his hip, and a determination solidified within him.

He started to strain against his beast, forcing himself to the fore. To his surprise, his beast did not put up much of a fight and he gained a little bit of control.

He knew it would not last long, so he needed to seize the moment.

Jason had just set down his tray of food at a distance that he would be able to reach, and immediately backed away toward the door, wary of an attack from him.

He was about to leave when Wayne called to him…

"Jason."
