Chapter 134: The Attack

Chapter 134: The Attack
Cracks and fissures fanned across the walls of the house.

She heard the squeaks of her building and the entire house wobbled.

Sabine crawled back from the window.

What was that fey doing here?

The last time she had seen her was at her castle and she had absconded, leaving everything behind when Wayne had come after her.

No one heard from her since then, Wayne had searched for her continuously and then finally gave up when he realized she was hiding in his uncle's fortress. The one place he could not breach because of the spirit of the dragon.

So far, she had stayed away from her. Not attempting anything, because she knew that Wayne was her close associate.

What had given her the temerity and the boldness to come out of hiding and attack her, on her plane, in broad daylight?

Judging from the fireballs she was using instead of explosives; she was still treading with caution.

Though her house was tucked away in the woods, just a few hundred meters away from the main town settlement, the loud sound from the explosives would have made a lot of noise and drawn her fellow phantom folks to her home.

So, she was careful not to make her operation known, at the same time she was wreaking havoc. The fireball was noiseless; However, the impact was felt on the house tremendously.

She had just gotten to where Bernice lay on the ground in the kitchen area, when another fireball hit the house, everywhere trembled.

Her house was balanced on three trees, she felt one of the trees give way and her house tilted, hanging at an angle of 45 degrees.

She did not know how much more the house could take before it fell, crashing to the ground.

"What's going on?" Bernice yelled as part of the roof in the parlor undulated.

"We are under attack," she yelled back.

"By who?" Bernice's eyes widened.

"By an evil sorceress," Sabine tried to stand up, but as her weight bore on the floor, she heard more squeaks.

Her house was slanted and she could not fully get a good foot-hold, but she managed to open her kitchen drawer and bring out four dry beetles and a knife.

Added to the one, that was on the counter beside her pot before it was swept to the floor in the commotion. She picked it up and combined it with the four in her hands.

"Why are they attacking us, what do they want from us?" Bernice scooted over to Sabine.

"She wants me," Sabine said and sliced her palm, blood welled. She closed it over the dry beetles and began to chant.

After a few minutes, she placed the beetle on the floor and the dead beetles resurrected back to life. Immediately, they crept away towards all the cracks in the house that led outside.

"What are they going to do?" Bernice said as she watched them leave.

"You'll see," She replied.

She was not that young, helpless girl Zipporah once knew all those years ago. She might as well show her what she was capable of.

At that moment, giant steps sounded on the ground below. With each thud, the environment shook.

Bernice peeped through a hole in the wall "Wait, is that not your dry dead beetles? They have grown to become giants."

"Watch out, giant beetles!" she heard one of Zipporah's henchmen shout.

Good, that should keep them busy.

Now they needed to use the time to escape.

Taking careful steps and placing her hand on the walls for support. She managed to reach where her apron had been flung to, in the course of all the jiggling.

She reached into her apron and pulled out her pouch of pixie dust. Again, the house shook with a stronger impact than before, knocking the pouch off her hands.

This fireball seemed to be stronger than the previous three, because it took off a portion of her house. She heard the loud crash below and the front of her house was now left wide open, without a structure.

From her position, her eyes met with Zipporah and she gave her a smug grin, then mouthed silently: You are mine.

Meanwhile, now that everything was out in the open, she could see Zipporah's fighters face off against her beetles.

So far, they had fallen one of her giants, and four remained standing. While her men battled, Zipporah stood aloof to the side, allowing them to do the dirty work.

Typical of her to use others to achieve her goals.

One of her beetles crushed one of the henchmen against a tree. Eliminating him.

Zipporah scowled and backed out an order.

One of the men abandoned the fight and began to climb up the steps to her tree house. Leaving the other two to continue to battle against her four beetles.

Oh shit.

"Someone is coming up, be alert and stay away from the edge," she told Bernice who nodded and crunched down behind the kitchen island.

She clutched the knife in her hand and joined her behind the island, giving her the sign to stay quiet.

Her heart rose and fell.

Her fingers gripped the knife hilt firmly as she patiently waited.

Soon enough, footsteps sounded in the house as the man walked in "Come out, come out, wherever you are," the man sang cheerily as he stepped.

Obviously, he was underestimating them because they were females and of a weaker species.

"I can smell you, come out little ones," his voice was just over the kitchen island and he was about to turn the corner to them, when she sprang up and rammed her knife deep into his chest.

He staggered back, dazed by the blade jutting out from him. Then he looked down at himself and back at her "You missed, just a little more above would have been my heart."

He pulled out the knife from his chest and flung it aside.

Oh shit, werewolves were one of the strongest amortals alive, and a resilient one at that. Even a half breed such as this one, was a formidable opponent.

"Run!" She yelled to Bernice.

But instead of running, Bernice grabbed a pan from the ground and rose up, arming herself.

Sabine glared at her, she shrugged as if to say 'Where will I run to?'

Slowly, her fingers pinched some pink salt that was scattered on her kitchen counter. When the man lunged at her, she threw the salt into his face.

"Ouch, my eyes!" He screamed.

In a flash of movements, Bernice had rushed him with her pan and was battering him with it. Sabine kicked him in his groin, and he doubled over, she stomped on his feet and he crashed to the ground. Making the house sway on its imbalanced support.

Once he was down, she knew they had only a few minutes before he recovered. So, she quickly began searching the house for her pixie pouch.

"Check around you for my pouch of pixie dust, we need to leave quickly," she told Bernice.

Rapidly, they scurried around the house lifting items, checking corners, all the while trying to balance their weight on opposite ends to prevent the house from tilting further.

Intervalley, her eyes wandered below to see what was happening.

Below, the battle ensued.

One of the men somersaulted in the air and slashed off one of the limbs. The beetle swayed his other limb and it connected with his body, causing him to fall to the ground and glide several meters away. The beetle lifted his hind leg to crush him, but his other partner had jumped onto it's back and drove a sword through its head.

The second beetle collapsed.

And the face-off continued.

Now it was three against two.
