Chapter 3: Bring Me To Life
Andrew
I held the flame closer to her face as I noticed something coming out of the wax. I used one of the fingers on my free hand to wipe away some of the melting wax. I could have sworn that I noticed skin under the area that I had just cleared. I put the candle aside and grabbed my carving knife and gently started cutting away at the wax. My efforts were slow and careful, trying not to damage whatever may be beneath it, all while trying to reveal what was hidden. What I uncovered, I would never have believed, if I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes as I uncovered my wife’s lips, her nose, her eyes, and then her forehead. I fell to the floor in disbelief seeing my wife’s perfect face before me; her eyes closed as though she was only sleeping. This couldn’t possibly be. She couldn’t have been in the wax. How could she be there now? Was this all a dream?
Then I heard her soft voice call my name, “Andy.”
I immediately stood up and looked at her in complete shock. “Sere, it couldn’t possibly be you, could it?”
Then I heard that glorious giggle, which I hadn’t heard in six long years.
“Of course it’s me, Andy. But this isn’t the type of wax play I had in mind.” She teased me.
“But, Sere, you died. How can you be talking to me?” I asked.
I had to be hallucinating from the poison I had consumed. My deceased wife couldn’t be alive again. It was impossible. Maybe, just maybe, this is the miracle that I prayed for. even though I wouldn’t have much time with her because of the poison. I needed to take this leap of faith and make the most of what little time I had left.
She smiled that beautiful smile that I missed so much.
“You brought me back to life.” She said, taking my day collar that I had placed around her neck off and handing it back to me. Even though I didn’t finish carving all the wax from her body, she moved through it without effort. I couldn’t understand any of what was happening, but I wanted to believe it. I wanted to believe that my wife had come back to me. I wanted to believe that I had brought her back to life.
“Andy, put this back on so that we can have the Valentine’s Day we were supposed to have.” She ordered.
