The Web Chapter 6: The Return
**Maxine**
It is now the Saturday before Easter. We are back in the park where our love story began. We lay entwined in the aftermath of our latest escapade. Satan was not one to let a soul slip through his grasp, especially not one as skilled as I. His wrath was swift and merciless. As Ethan and I lay tangled in each other’s arms, the air crackled with malevolent energy. The air grew cold, and the shadows seemed to twist and writhe. “Maxine,” Satan’s voice boomed, deep and foreboding, “you’ve strayed from your path. But I’m a generous master. Prove your loyalty, and I might just let you keep your little pet.”
Ethan’s eyes widened in fear, but he didn’t let go of me. “What does he want?” he asked, his voice trembling but resolute.
“He wants a battle,” I replied, my heart heavy. “He wants to test our bond, to see if it’s strong enough to defy him.”
Satan might not know how we had already prepared because we both knew he would come. Ethan, though human, was far from helpless. His love for me had awakened something within him—a strength, a determination that even Satan couldn’t ignore. Together, we had trained, our bodies and souls intertwined in a dance of passion and preparation. Each touch, each kiss, was a reminder of what we were fighting for: our love, our freedom, our very existence.
Satan left briefly and then returned at midnight. It was now Easter Sunday. The air was thick with tension. Satan appeared in all his malevolent glory, his eyes burning with fury. “You dare challenge me?” he sneered, his voice dripping with contempt.
“I dare to love,” I replied, stepping forward, Ethan by my side. “And love is stronger than any darkness you can wield.”
What followed was a battle of wills, a clash of light and shadow. Ethan fought with a ferocity I’d never seen, his love for me granting him unexpected abilities. I channeled centuries of skill, my movements graceful yet deadly. Together, we were a force to be reckoned with, our bond unbreakable.
In the end, it was Ethan who delivered the final blow, his love for me a weapon Satan couldn’t defend against. The dark lord stumbled, his form flickering, and for a moment, I thought it was over. But Satan was not one to go down without a fight. With a roar of rage, he lunged at Ethan, his claws bared.
Without hesitation, I stepped in, taking the brunt of the attack. Pain exploded through me, but I didn’t falter. “You can’t have him,” I snarled, my voice laced with defiance. “Not now. Not ever.”
Satan’s eyes narrowed, and for a moment, I saw something flicker within them—respect. “Very well,” he conceded, his voice grudging. “You’ve proven yourselves. Maxine, your soul is free. But remember, love is a double-edged sword. It can save you… or destroy you.”
With that, he vanished, leaving us alone in the aftermath. Ethan pulled me into his arms, his touch gentle as he tended to my wounds. “We did it,” he whispered, his voice filled with awe.
“We did,” I agreed, my heart swelling with love and gratitude. But as I looked into his eyes, I knew our journey was far from over. Love had saved us, but it had also changed us. And in a world where darkness lurked around every corner, our bond would be tested again and again.
For now, though, we had each other, and that was enough. As dawn broke, the church bells began to ring signally that Easter was here and that He had risen. We had risen too not just as lovers, but as soulmates forever intertwined with a bond that even Satan couldn’t break.
“When darkness branches to your soul, light still finds a way to rise.” Angie Weiland-Crosby. So remember Easter isn’t just about candy and the Easter bunny. It is about rising above your challenges and becoming something new and better through togetherness. There is always a light in the darkness, my friends, you just need to be brave enough to look.
Happy Easter from the dark side,
Lynn Byrne
