Married Hell: Part 6
**Chapter 6: One Night Only**

I wonder why his whole demeanor shifted. I decided to tell him a bit about myself. I told him my name, how my parents died, why I became a doctor and gave him a brief rundown of my marital history. He did the same but I feel as if we are both hiding something. I did notice that as we talked we kept getting closer and closer to each other because he moved his chair closer to mine. When he touched my hand as he thanked me for sharing a bit about myself, I felt this bizarre sensation. Is he like me? Does he feel compelled to be an exterminator for the world as I do? Even so, I can't afford to get caught until I am ready. I am thankful for the fact that I can not have children because I couldn't bear them having to watch me fry as the switch was flipped on the electric chair or poison was pumped into my veins by lethal injection. But that's how the world works, isn't it? Those who seek to rid the world of evil are punished while the wicked roam free.
After a few minutes of companionable silence elapsed, he looked into my eyes. As if he were a sailor who was set adrift and witnessed a safe harbor for the first time, he blurted out, “Despite the consequences, I want to explore this…I want to explore you.”
His sudden declaration caught me off guard. I stared at him, unblinking. Once the initial shock dissipated, I asked him why. What he told me seemed like something out of a romantic novel. He told me how he first noticed me but didn't approach me, yet he lingered. He told me that he wasn't ready for anything serious just as I wasn't. Such an odd feeling to have more in common with a perfect stranger than people you have known for months or longer. So I made him a proposition, “Let's explore for one night only.”
