Chapter 45 Mrs Hale In The Mud
Chapter 45 Mrs Hale In The Mud
Serena
“I know who tampered with the will,” I blurted out.
Sin reared back like I’d punched him in the stomach.
“What did you say?” he asked, his eyes narrowing.
I swallowed thickly, regretting why I'd said anything at all.
“Your mother tampered with the second will. She’s trying to steal your birthright from both of you.”
Saint’s arms loosened around me, his body going rigid.
“Serena, you can’t say things like this,” he said carefully. “We can only protect you if you’re willing to stay protected.”
“What?” The word came out sharper than I intended. “You’re scared of your mother? Did you know she belongs to a cult of women who want to rule the wealth in their families?”
“You’re not supposed to—”
“Leave it,” Sin interrupted Saint sharply.
“She’s not supposed to know—”
“Leave it alone!” Sin snapped, his voice cracking like a whip.
“You know?” I stared at them, disbelief flooding me. “You know and you’re just going to let her control you? You know and—”
“Serena, stop raising dust,” Saint said, his voice strained at the end. “You don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“I know exactly what I’m talking about!” My voice rose. “I know something is wrong with your family. I know I’m being mistreated unjustly. Lara is with your mother on the conspiracy—”
Sin moved like lightning.
He pinned me to the bed in one fluid motion, his massive body caging me in.
I hissed out a startled breath, too shocked to react.
He was breathing heavily above me, his eyes dark and wild and full of emotions I couldn't interpret.
“Do not speak a word of this to the detective,” he growled. “We’ll handle it.”
“Sin, let her go,” Saint said, his voice tight with warning.
What was happening? What had come over him?
“You’re hurting me,” I whispered, my whole body stiff, afraid to move even an inch.
Sin’s eyes flickered, something raw and pained flashing through them.
He released me abruptly and rolled off, running a hand over his face.
“I’m sorry,” he muttered. “I shouldn’t have… I need to go. I need to reset privately.”
He looked truly apologetic as he backed toward the door, then practically fled the room like he was running from something invisible.
Saint leaned over me, pressing a soft kiss to my cheek.
“You’re too smart for your own good,” he murmured. “Sin isn’t used to having someone calm him down from his episodes yet. His reaction to what you just told us collided with his recovery.”
“He can’t keep going on like this,” I said, sitting up. “Hell, you two can’t keep going on like this. Your mother is trying to steal from you, her own sons. Lara is in on it too.”
Saint’s jaw tightened, but he didn’t deny it.
I reached for his hand, squeezing it.
“We have to do something,” I whispered. “Before it’s too late.”
He looked at me for a long moment, his eyes dark with conflict, worry, and something deeper.
Then he leaned in, resting his forehead against mine.
“We will,” he promised softly. “But right now… I need you to stay safe. Please.”
I nodded, even though every instinct inside me screamed that something was deeply off about my men.
I had expected them to shun me. To push me away. Or even throw me out for daring to accuse their mother of something so monstrous.
Instead, they had reacted like they were trying to shield me from finding out more. Like they already knew some parts of the truth… and were terrified of what it would do to me if I dug deeper.
Mrs. Rivers was strict, cold, and controlling, that much I had always known. She'd forced me inside a cage with seven pitbulls, I was familiar with her wickedness firsthand.
But I had never imagined she could be this ambitious and this ruthless.
The truth was becoming terrifyingly clear, the real danger in this house wasn’t just Sin’s darkness.
It was the woman who had raised them.
“Stay here while I go fetch you breakfast,” Saint said, brushing a strand of hair behind my ear. “I’ll have a word with Detective Gilbert before I leave for the afternoon board meeting. Sin will probably head to work soon to remind everyone he’s a Rivers heir.”
He let out a low, tired laugh. “But I want you to have this…”
He reached behind him on the nightstand and handed me a sleek black phone.
My jaw dropped.
“Your mother—”
“Has no right over you,” he cut in firmly. “If anything goes wrong, you call my number or Sin’s. Both are already saved.”
I threw myself at him, wrapping my arms around his neck in a tight embrace.
“Thank you,” I whispered, hugging him harder.
He groaned softly against my ear.
“Love, I don’t know if you’re aware, but you’re grinding your tits against my chest… and I’m losing all sense of being a gentleman.”
A wicked little spark ignited inside me.
“Maybe I don’t want you to be a gentleman,” I murmured, sliding my hand down between us to palm the hard length of his cock through his trousers. “Maybe… I want you to finish what Sin started. Or I’ll just finish it myself.”
Saint’s breath hitched. His hand came up to grip my hip, his fingers digging in.
“Is that a threat?” he asked, voice already thick with lust.
I squeezed him gently, feeling him twitch under my palm.
“Pick your poison.”
For a heartbeat, Saint’s eyes darkened, that familiar storm of hunger and restraint warring across his face.
Then he leaned in, capturing my mouth in a deep, hungry kiss that stole the air from my lungs.
His hands roamed, one sliding under my shirt to cup my breast, his thumb brushing over my nipple, the other gripping my ass and pulling me closer until I was straddling his lap.
I moaned into his mouth, grinding down against the hard ridge of his cock.
Saint broke the kiss with a low growl, his forehead resting against mine.
“You’re going to be the death of me,” he rasped.
“Good,” I whispered, nipping at his bottom lip. “Then die inside me.”
His control snapped. He flipped me onto my back in one smooth motion, pinning my wrists above my head with one hand while the other shoved my shirt up, exposing my breasts.
His mouth descended on my chest, sucking one nipple deep while his fingers teased the other.
I arched into him, gasping, already wet and aching again.
“Saint—”
“Shh,” he murmured against my skin. “Let me take care of you.”
His free hand slid down my body, pushing my panties aside.
The door opened without warning and Sin stepped inside, his presence filling the room before he even fully entered.
His eyes swept over the scene, me still sprawled on the bed, Saint’s hand still resting possessively between my thighs.
He was angry. It was obvious in the tight line of his jaw, the way his shoulders tensed, the dark storm brewing in those chocolate-brown eyes.
I braced myself for the explosion. Instead, his voice came out in a tight tone.
“The DNA results have returned.”
He paused, letting the silence stretch until it felt like a blade pressed against my throat.
“The fingerprints on the Will matched Mrs. Hale’s.”
