YOU DIDN’T TELL ME

YOU DIDN’T TELL ME
Darius

“Hello to you two Alpha, Luna”

I jerked “holy shit Celestine, a little warning would not hurt you once in a while would it?” Ayla asked placing a hand on her chest from how sudden that Celestine appeared.

“Now this time I am really fucking sure that no one summoned you” I said.

She nodded “yes, but I am here to return your son…. It is time that he come home”

Ayla had tears in her eyes and she looked up at her with hope in her eyes “really?” she asked and Celestine nodded.

“Where is my son please?” Ayla asked and Celestine moved away.

"Freddy?" she whispered, her voice trembling like she still couldn’t believe it, he was standing right in front of us.

The boy who stood before us wasn't the same… well he still was technically, but at the same time was not?

I don’t know if that even made any sense

He was taller now, leaner, his hair longer and his eyes… older. Celestine did say that his magic would change him… but I could not help but wonder how much?

What had he gone through?

Freddy blinked, disoriented, until his gaze landed on Ayla. “Mummy?”

His voice was so soft, and his eyes shone with emotion for the tiniest of seconds, at least he still did feel something.

Ayla crashed into him with a sob, wrapping him in a hug so tight he staggered back a step.

I felt my chest tighten watching them. It was like seeing her heart return to her body. A piece of her soul restored.

I knew how much it hurt Ayla to watch him go, and how no matter how much she smiled, it was always still so obvious that something was missing…. Her first child, and now he was back in her arms.

"I missed you," she choked, tears spilling freely. She touched every inch of him as if to examine for any sign of hurt. “So much my baby.”

Freddy hesitated, then slowly returned the hug, his hands clutching her as if to make sure she was real. “I… I missed you too mum.”

“I guess that my job is complete now… and please no matter what, try to ensure that we never have to meet each other again” she said.

I nodded “thank you”

She smiled, and with that she was gone.

“Come on let’s get you inside” she said and took his hand.

We brought him to the pack house.

Freddy clung tightly to Ayla, like he was scared that she would just disappear and leave him again.

I think that he knew that we had to, but there was also this part of him that struggled to understand why Ayla left him…and left him scared that she would be gone again if he did not hold on tight enough.

“How are you doing little man?” I asked.

“I am fine dad… I no longer get those nightmares if that is what you are asking, I can control myself now” he said.

I nodded “even if you could not Freddy, it wouldn’t change a thing” I said and he smiled tightly “I am really fine now but thanks.”

Ayla on the other hand was too busy doting on him “Are you hungry?” she asked for like the tenth time in a row.

It was so funny how it only took a second for her to forget every other thing around her but our son.

I wasn’t complaining though, because I loved anything that would keep her happy.

And the joy in her eyes in this moment? That was real.

Later that evening, Ayla brought him to our room to rest. I watched from the doorway as she tucked him in like old times, brushing back his hair and whispering something only he could hear. Her fingers trembled the whole time.

I just let them enjoy each other’s presence without interrupting, because I knew, that back when they were with Thorne, they created a bond that I would never really be able to relate to and that was absolutely fine.

I woke up the next morning and they were both still peacefully sleeping and with a smile on my face, I went to make the both of them breakfast.

I was not really much of a good cook, but I was going to try for them.

“Are you sure that you don’t need any help Alpha?” Quincy asked but I shooed her away, I could absolutely handle this.

But there was a plot twist I could not absolutely handle shit, and I ended up asking for help…. But hey, it was absolutely the thought that counted.

The scent of pancakes and honey-drenched toast filled the hallway as I carefully balanced the tray in my hands…. I mean if it dropped then that would literally defeat the whole fucking point.

The bedroom door was slightly ajar and so

I crept in quietly and set the tray on the bedside table.

“Breakfast in bed?” I whispered playfully.

Ayla stirred first, blinking up at me with a sleepy smile. Freddy grumbled and turned over but didn’t wake immediately.

“I made your favorites,” I added, leaning down to kiss her forehead. “I mean I did not make it technically, but you get the point”

She smiled “you are fine… thank you”

“You’ve got to eat more now, especially with the baby and all—”

Freddy sat up, eyes wide. “What baby?”

Ayla’s face paled as she sat upright.

“Freddy, baby I was going to tell you but-”

I opened my mouth to backpedal, but it was too late. Freddy stared between us, betrayal painted clearly across his face.

“You didn’t even tell me,” he whispered.

“Freddy, wait—” Ayla reached for him.

“If you really want to replace me that badly, I’ll go anyways” he spat bitterly.

“That’s not true Freddy….”

But he was already out of the bed, sprinting for the door, hurt trailing behind him like a shadow.

“Damn it,” I muttered, running a hand through my hair. “Ayla I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to—”

Ayla was already throwing off the covers. “I’ll go after him.”

I nodded silently, guilt gnawing at my chest.

I and my fucking big mouth…. I just had to slip up.

I hope that I did not ruin everything.
