Marriage
Gosh. What have I done? Why did I have to say that in front of everyone? What if Mom thinks I'm a bad girl?
No, I should go back there and take my words.
I can't let—
As I stood up from the bed, heading towards the door, the door was suddenly pushed open, and a tall figure stepped into the room.
Oh my.
My heart skipped and began to pump at a faster rate.
He's here! He's already here!
What am I going to do? Is it too late to regret now?
My mind was in a total frenzy, but in contrast, my expression was very calm.
“You are here.” I stared at Vagamound, who also appeared to be nervous, like I am.
“I…” He scratched his head, not sure of where to start. “Uhmm, we can do this unsealing stuff some other time if you feel uncomfortable about it.”
“No.” Wait, what am I saying? “I made the decision myself.”
No, why am I moving towards him?
Help, I've been possessed by a ghost.
I pressed my palm against his chest and pushed him against the door. “I can feel your heart racing. Are you afraid…” My fingers trailed down across his shirt. “…that I might eat you up.”
“Wha-what are you doing?” Vagamound's Adam's apple bobbed as he swallowed hard.
“Of course, I'm doing you.” My fingers went over to his buttons and began to slowly unhook them.
Cold sweat seeped out of my back, and I could see my fingers shaking with nervousness as they moved.
Why aren't you saying anything? Why aren't you stopping me?
I tilted my head up to Vagamound's face, wanting to see his reaction, but I discovered that his eyes had been on me all the time, watching my movement.
Come on, say something. You are a mind reader, aren't you?
Don't be scared, Belia. He's already your fiancé. Since he had brought the betrothal gifts, that means you are officially engaged. So, you are free to do anything you want to him.
But… I… I can't.
“Stop.” The voice seemed to have jeered me out of my thoughts.
“Huh.” I stared confusedly at Vagamound.
“Button up my shirt. We need to head somewhere first.” He said.
“Oh, alright.” I hurriedly buttoned him up. He then reached for my hand and pulled me out of the room.
____
“Is it done?” Mom asked when she saw the two of us coming down the stairs.
“No.” Vagamound shook his head before adding, “I respect Belia's body. So, if I must get the orbits out of her body, I should at least do it properly.”
“I don't quite understand what you mean.” Mom seems half-puzzled by Vagamound's statement.
“I…” Vagamound turned his face towards me, his expression looking determined. “I want to officially make our relationship a legal one. So we need to go to the registry to register our marriage.”
\===
Glancing at the marriage document in my hands that had just been acquired a minute ago, I was at a loss for words to say.
Oh my, I can't believe I'm getting married in this way.
Who the hell gets married on the first day they are proposed to? I guess I'm one of the abnormalities out there.
Noticing my worry, Vagamound came to me and whispered into my ear. “Don't worry. We will hold a grand wedding later.”
I turned to him and saw the happy smile on his lips.
“Hmm.” I hummed.
Eason, San, and the others were also called over to witness our marriage. Including Zanillia's parents, who were there to stand in as Vagamound's elders.
They all offered their congratulations to us one by one.
“Congratulations, dear. I can't believe you are getting married.” Mom became emotional as she embraced me, tears streaming down her cheeks.
“It's a happy moment. Don't cry, Mom.” I patted her on the back until she stopped crying.
“I will go talk to Vagamound's elders.” She let go of me and wiped her tears.
“Alright.”
“Sister-in-law.” Sean walked over to me after Mom had left. “I can't believe you ditched our date just to get married to Big Brother. You must go on another date with me next time.”
He stretched out his hand, wanting to take my hand into his, but a figure suddenly stepped in between us, interrupting his actions.
“Move away from my wife.” Vagamound slapped away Sean's outstretched hand. “And don't think your puppy face would work on me this time. I've already grown a thick skin to it.” When he finished talking, he took my hand into his, declaring his ownership.
“Haa.” Sean's face puffed up like an angry chicken. “It was I who persuaded sister in-law to marry you. Who knew this was how you would repay me?” His expression instantly switched to one of being bullied. “Big brother is so mean. So mean!” He cried out.
“Hey, what the hell are you doing? Stop embarrassing me in public.” Vagamound noticed the stare coming in his direction and pleaded to Sean.
“Really?” I pulled my hand out of Vagamound's hold and stared at him with an accusing gaze. “Is this how you would repay him?”
“What?” His eyes widened, not expecting me to jump in Sean's lead. “It was through my relentless effort that I made you fall in love with me. He did nothing.”
“How sure are you about that?” I tried to hold back my laughter, not wanting to break my serious persona.
Wow, I never would have thought that a panicked Vagamound could be so cute.
“Are you…” Seeing that the stare around him was becoming too much, Vagamound instantly gave up.
“Fine. I'm so sorry, Sean. It's my fault for not realizing the effort you made towards my relationship with Belia. I promise to make the same effort when finding you a wife. So, can you please not touch my wife without my permission?”
“No.” The young man shook his head strongly, his next sentence almost causing Vagamound to faint in anger. “You said that whatever is yours is mine. Which means that Belia also belongs to me.”
“This is different, okay.” Vagamound tried to explain to the innocent man the difference in his meaning, but the other party kept blinking, not seeming to understand any of the words he was saying.
“Don't worry, Sean.” I walked over and patted Sean on the shoulder. “I will always be your close companion.” A sweet smile spread across my lips.
Seeing his wife adding more wood to the flame, Vagamound gave up totally and said. “You know what, just do as you wish.”
“Ah-hem. Sorry to interrupt the conversation.” Eason strode over.
I noticed a strange, teasing smile across his lips. Soon, the words I feared most came out of his mouth.
“So…” He hooked his arm around Vagamound's shoulder as he continued. “When are you two heading out for your honeymoon?”
“Not yet,” Vagamound responded. “I still have an important task to do. Retrieving the six orbits.” He had already told Eason and the others about what had happened.
Sensing Vagamound's gaze on me, my face flushed red at the thought of what was going to happen once we got back home.
Oh Lord, how can I escape from this?
