Ch 57 continued…
I say with a huge grin, “I usually do.”
Vincent chuckles, Welcome to our eternity!”
I smile and shake my head at him before I ask, “Do we know where the necromancer is? And a name would be nice too. If you don't know where he is get me something of either of theirs and I can find him.”
Artemis asks, “You can do that?”
I knowingly smile to reassure him, “Yes as well as directly manipulate the environment around who I'm viewing. Remember the bats at your dinner?”
Vlad groans as Artemis yells, “You!” I nod as he continues, “You ruined dinner!”
I shrug, “Well I didn't think vampires would be afraid of a few hundred bats. I could've transfigured them into dragons instead.”
Vlad and Vincent chuckle as Marcus nods and smiles, “Would've been even more fitting.”
I giggle, “I'm very creative.”
Then my phone rings and I put it on speaker. The vampires would hear anyway, so might as well make it easier.
***Call***
Rick Crawford: Eva good day or evening
whatever it is over there
Me: Just after dinner time actually
Rick Crawford: Did you make it okay?
Me: Everything is fine
Rick Crawford: I had an odd feeling
Me: Describe it
Rick Crawford: I'm not sure I should if Vincent is nearby
Vincent: Perceptive as always. All is fine, my brother can't harm Eva.
Rick Crawford: I felt an uneasiness though
Vincent: Oh that, my father tested Eva
Rick Crawford: Should I offer my
condolences?
Artemis: I'm very much alive!
Me: Watch your tone with my boss, old man!
Rick Crawford: Partner Eva
Me: Still getting used to it
Rick Crawford: Anyways, we have extra
space. Could you send over an extra piece?
Me: Sure. How about a necromancer in love with a corpse?
We hear Rick laugh.
Rick Crawford: Could be interesting
Me: I'll get it over to you in a few hours. I just thought of the ending too
Rick Crawford: I'll look forward to it as always
Me: Then I'Il start on a life verses legends series
Rick Crawford: Proving or dispelling myths?
Me: Bit of both
Rick Crawford: Eric, is this something for your territory?
Eric: No, all Eva. So far since she killed Victor we've had no issues
Rick Crawford: Good. The office wants to throw a party upon your return too
Me: About that, we might be bringing company
Eric: Eva there's no might
Me: I'll hit your unfriend button too
The guys laugh as I sigh and roll my eyes. Yes, I have come to love them but all of us together still scares me.
Rick Crawford: Human, vampire, or werewolf?
Me: Oh there'll be only one werewolf. They're serial monogamists.
Rick Crawford: Good to know. Vampire or human then?
Me: Vampire. I can hear your wheels turning from here
Rick Crawford: This whole other world fascinates me more now than ever
Me: It's a learning experience for sure
Vlad: I can hear his thoughts
I look at Vlad in astonishment.
Eric: Do you need more proof now Eva?
I sigh, resigned.
Me: Fine! Prepare to meet Dracula on our return
Rick Crawford: Is he anything like what we've heard?
Vlad looks at me because he wants to know what I think of him.
Me: He's a lot like Vincent, but less creative and more brooding
Vlad: I'm plenty creative and I don't brood!
Me: You burn or impale those that defy you. Nothing else, thus lacking creativity
Vlad: Not all of us can control nature
Me: Even before I could I was still creative
Vincent: Your funeral brother
Vlad: I've already seen what she can do
I point my finger at him and have a laser beam carve an E on his hand.
Vlad: The fuck!
Me: Yeah you should've listened to your brother
Rick Crawford: I don't want to know. Just be safe and I look forward to the articles while you're gone. Just send whatever you can
Me: Will do. Send my love to the others and keep the boys out of trouble
Rick Crawford: I will. Brandon is still pissed that you chose Vincent
Me: Oh he'll just love Vlad then. Be prepared to see Kia drool
Rick Crawford: Oh my
Me: Story of my life
Rick Crawford: You're doing great, kid. Keep the faith!
Me: Always
****End Call****
Once we all said our goodbyes, I ended that call and we continued our discussion.
Artemis says, “He's awfully okay with this as a human.”
I smile and nod, “Our line of work. We own Stranger Things, it's a paranormal magazine. So we write about the strange and unusual.”
Artemis nods, “Makes more sense now.”
Vlad gasps, “This isn't healing!”
I gasp as I put my hand over my heart, “Oh sorry, I'I fix it!” I use my knife to pierce my finger and then press it to the E. It heals instantly.
Artemis grins, “That confirms it. You're a goddess more likely than an angel. Only a God or goddess can heal the immortal and grant eternal life. It would take a very high angel to do that and they rarely appear on Earth much much less pretend to be human.”
I reply, “But I've never seen any or know of any who have.”
Artemis tries to reassure me, “None do because most are dormant or just don't visit Earth. But the gods that do visit blend in very well. How demigods came to exist.”
Marcus puts a hand on my shoulder, “We will figure out who you are Eva or well were or at the very least identify with.”
We finish dinner and then are shown to our rooms. I know the guys will end up in my room, so I just wait.
——-Vlad’s POV———
When Vincent called Father and me, I thought that he was insane. He had to have been exaggerating, so I initially denied Eva a meeting. The moment she astrally touched me, I felt her power and a connection. I, like Vincent, had given up finding my mate. This unexpected connection with Eva pissed me off, so I challenged her and even tried to read her mind. Her song choice though…. Why that song?
As I'm around Eva, that pull strengthens. I want to know her deeply but not to study her, but so that I can appreciate her. This is something that I swore that I would never do again. Back when I first met Elena, I was power-hungry. I learned that she had abilities as a human and I wanted to understand how and find a way to have them for myself. So I tracked her down and got close to her. I pretended to be human to seduce her, but I ended up having feelings for her after I moved her in.
I kept her initially where I kept all of my concubines, but eventually moved her to my wing of the castle and then into my bedchamber. I knew that she wasn't my mate but I loved her. I tried to make sure that she had all she ever wanted. I had hoped that once she became a vampire that I wouldn't have to use a spell to protect her from my flames. But that wasn't the case, and she grew to hate it because it dimmed her ability to use her electric abilities. Her vampiric still worked, just not her electric. Why she was easy for Merdon to take.
Merdon is a witch who convinced a vampire to turn him before he killed that vampire and absorbed his power. I have fought him countless times and the last time I should have made sure that he was ash. My arrogance allowed him to live and stalk me. He waited and waited for a chance to destroy me and I all but gift-wrapped him Elena. I won't make the same mistake! I won't and I can't lose Eva!
