Eternally Bound, Chapter 58: The Battle Begins

Eternally Bound, Chapter 58: The Battle Begins
Eva

The Forest of Echoes feels more like a tomb than a forest realm. I stand amidst the ancient trees, their gnarled roots twisting into the earth like the veins of some slumbering giant. My allies surround me, their presence a mosaic of power and purpose. The pixies, led by Amara, dart through the air, their wings shimmering like shards of broken glass, their laughter a high, tinkling melody that belies the gravity of the moment. The fae, led by Venus and her group, stand in silent vigil, their ethereal forms blending seamlessly with the shadows and mist, their magic a low hum that vibrates in my bones. Levi, a behemoth of muscle and scale, shifts restlessly beneath the canopy, his massive form a reminder of the raw, untamed strength at our disposal. And Pakhet surveys the landscape as she stands with her griffin and sphynx, his fur bristling, his eyes glowing with a feral light, growls low in his throat, a promise of the carnage to come. Artemis is back at home, keeping many of the others safe while we are here waiting to see if we can end darkness once and for all.

Morgan, Agnes, and Katie come up and hug me. “I know that you did what you thought you had to. I love and trust you with my life.” Katie looks at Morgan and Agnes. They nod. “We all do. You are our sister. Let's go kick that demonic bitch’s ass!”

“I love you all too,” I reply. The White Wolf’s power pulses within me, a wild, untamed force that feels both foreign and intimately mine. It’s a secret, a weapon I must wield with precision, for Astaroth cannot know of it. If she does, she’ll adapt, and our advantage will be lost. I must strip her of her powers, render her mortal, and end her reign of chaos. But the cost of this power, a piece of my soul, weighs heavily on my heart. It’s a price I’ve paid willingly, but the emptiness it leaves behind is a constant, aching reminder of what’s at stake. The loss of a piece of me won't compare to the loss of a member of my family.

Bael’s hand finds mine, his touch grounding me in the here and now. His dark eyes meet mine, filled with a determination that mirrors my own, a love that transcends words. “We’ll face this together,” he murmurs, his voice a low rumble that vibrates through me. “You’re not alone, Eva.”

I squeeze his hand, drawing strength from his unwavering support. Around us, my other mates stand tall, their unique energies intertwining to form a shield of protection and love. Brandon’s sarcasm masks his fear, his rugged exterior hiding a heart that beats fiercely for me. “Well, this is just peachy,” he drawls, his voice laced with mock disdain. “Another day, another apocalypse. Someone get me a drink.”

Eric’s calm demeanor belies the storm of prophetic visions swirling in his mind. His fingers twitch as he clutches his arm, his strategic mind already calculating our next moves. “She’s coming,” he says, his voice tight. “She has many and assumes she has won. We don’t have much time.”

Sam’s protective nature is palpable, his instincts on high alert as he scans the horizon. “We’re ready,” he declares, his voice steady despite the tremor in his hand as he grips his amulet. “For you, Eva. For all of us.” Morgan, Agnes, and everyone who possessed magic lent some to forge those fighting today special amulets. They are to serve as protection and to amplify our powers. We know that it might not save everyone, but it gives us solace and a fighting chance. There's a reason Vincent’s home couldn't be located by Raven or Astaroth, and I believe it was the combination of magic used to shield it. Similar to that same combination that now flows within us.

Vincent’s brooding intensity is softened by the loyalty in his gaze, his newfound powers a testament to the bond we share. “Whatever happens,” he says, his voice low and gruff, “I’m with you until the end.”

And Vlad, ever the egomaniac, stands with a confidence that borders on arrogance. Yet his vulnerability around me speaks volumes of his devotion. “Let’s get this over with,” he says, his voice dripping with faux nonchalance. “I have a date with a victory celebration later.”

I take a deep breath, the weight of their trust settling on my shoulders. “Stay close,” I command, my voice firm. “We fight as one. Protect each other. And remember, our love is our strength. It’s what sets us apart from her.”

My mates nodded, their eyes locked on mine, their trust absolute. I can see the fear in their eyes, but it’s overshadowed by their determination, their love for me, and their commitment to each other. I turn to the rest of my group as Cupcake pokes her head out from under my hair. “We’re a family, bound by ties that go beyond blood or obligation. We’re a force to be reckoned with, and I won’t let Astaroth tear us apart. Today we don't just fight for the balance, we fight for our family!”

The light in the forest dims as the air thickens. But we were prepared for that. The pixies light up the sky. We see Astaroth and her army. The ground begins to tremble as Astaroth’s army advances, their roars and shrieks a cacophony of chaos. The air crackles with their dark energy, a tangible weight pressing down on us. I take another deep breath, centering myself, the White Wolf’s power a burning ember in my core. This is it. The final battle. The culmination of everything we’ve fought for.

“For love,” I whisper, my voice steady despite the storm raging within me. “For each other. For the world.” And with that, we charge forward, meeting the darkness head-on.
