In The Wolf’s Mouth
In The Wolf’s Mouth
Worker’s POV
They dragged me by both arms, one guard on each side, their grips hard enough to bruise. My wrists were locked painfully behind me. The metal handcuffs scraped my skin with every step. My legs would not stay steady. They kept shaking until my knees knocked together. I tripped twice, but the guards only yanked me forward harder.
The hallway felt endless. The mansion was silent except for distant voices. I heard someone shouting somewhere upstairs. The sound made me tremble worse. The guards did not slow. Their boots hit the ground in heavy steps that echoed off the walls.
When we reached the large double doors at the end, both guards stopped. My breath caught in my throat. One of them knocked. The door opened. They shoved me inside.
The room was dim, thick with smoke from a cigar burning somewhere. The curtains were half drawn, letting in narrow lines of light. Every shadow felt alive. Every corner felt dangerous.
Enzo stood near the table with his back half turned to us. His shoulders were broad and completely still. When he turned around, my body locked. My knees nearly buckled. His face was calm, but his eyes were sharp and cold in a way that made my lungs tighten.
Everyone in the house spoke about him. Everyone knew what he did to men who brought trouble to his women. Every story sounded worse than the last. Standing in front of him made the stories feel too real.
I dropped my eyes immediately and stared at his shoes. My chest rose and fell fast, too fast, like my heart was trying to escape.
The guards shoved me into a chair. My bones rattled. The metal cuffs dug into my skin.
Before Enzo could speak, my mouth opened on its own. My voice shook as I rushed out the words.
“I am sorry. I am really sorry. I did not mean anything. Please believe me. I did not know anything was wrong. I did not mean harm. Please sir. I am begging you.”
Enzo did not react. His face did not shift. His eyes did not even blink.
The silence pressed down on me harder than any grip. My chest squeezed. Sweat rolled down my back. My breathing came out in short bursts. I tried again, my voice cracking.
“I swear sir. I am not lying. Nathan told me everything was fine. Nathan said there was no danger. I only followed what he said. Please. Please sir.”
Enzo stayed silent. His attention stayed locked on me with the stillness of a predator watching something already defeated.
I tried to keep talking. The words tumbled out nonstop. My hands shook inside the cuffs. My eyes darted anywhere but at his face. I could not stop myself.
“Nathan said it was nothing. He said she was safe. He said no one would get hurt. I did not know she belonged to you. I did not know anything. Please sir. Please.”
My voice kept climbing higher and higher until it barely sounded human.
Then I heard nothing. Not even my own breathing.
Because Enzo moved.
I did not hear footsteps. I did not hear the floor creak. Suddenly the cold barrel of a gun pressed hard against my temple. My entire body froze. My teeth clattered together. Tears spilled across my cheeks.
Enzo’s voice came soft and low.
“I said, shut up.”
The grip on my lungs tightened. It felt like air stopped existing. My whole body shook rapidly. My forehead dripped sweat. My fingers went numb. My voice died instantly.
Enzo leaned against the table, still holding the gun to my head. His eyes stayed focused on my face, unblinking.
He spoke again, calm and slow.
“Where did Nathan take her.”
The words shattered what was left of my control. I shook my head fast, my breath choking.
“I do not know. I swear I do not know. He did not tell me anything. Please. I do not know.”
Enzo laughed.
It was not a real laugh. It was low and dry and cold. The sound made something inside me twist painfully. His eyes did not match the sound. They stayed dead and sharp.
The laugh faded. His face settled into something darker.
“Okay. Let me rephrase that.” His tone dropped deeper. “You and Nathan are working together, right.”
My head jerked from side to side so fast my neck hurt. Panic rushed through me like fire. I tried to explain but the words melted together.
“No sir. No. It is not like that. I swear. Please. Please listen.”
Enzo tilted the gun and dragged it slowly from my temple down to my mouth. He pushed the barrel against my lips. My own breath hit the metal and came back hot and shaky. The gun felt heavy. The silence felt heavier.
My throat closed. Tears blurred my vision. The taste of metal filled my mouth.
Enzo stayed relaxed. His voice came out steady.
“Okay. Then explain what happened. And tell me where the fuck your accomplice took my girl. Or I will cut your body into pieces and feed you to my sharks.”
My stomach dropped so hard I felt sick.
Enzo lowered his voice further.
“And you know damn well I am not bluffing.”
The terror broke me. Completely. My breath came out in loud gasps. My whole body started shaking so violently that the chair rattled beneath me. Tears poured from my eyes. My words disappeared. I tried to speak but only small sounds came out.
Warm liquid spread under me. I could not control it. Shame hit me, but fear swallowed it instantly. Everything inside me hurt.
Enzo stepped back half a step, the gun still pointed directly at me. His expression did not change. His voice stayed steady.
“Now. Tell me everything.”
I tried to breathe. My chest kept rising too fast. My heartbeat felt like it would burst. My throat burned as I finally forced out the first word. My voice was almost gone.
“I will talk. I will tell you everything. Please. Please do not kill me.”
The guards moved closer. Enzo waited. The gun stayed aimed at my head.
My entire life felt like it was sitting in his hand.
And all I could do was start talking.
